The following is an excerpt of Obama's book "Dreams for My Father" at page 293 wherein Obama recounts Rev. Wright's "The Audacity of Hope" sermon.

Obama quotes this passage:

"It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks’ greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere… That’s the world! On which hope sits!"

OUCH!

Re: ...And

Did you read the book. I do not lump all black people in a bunch and say things. Not all white people are greedy. Not all black people are poor, and their are alot of very rich black people. There are alot of very poor white people. I have a problem with that. you should have a problem with that.
Re: ...And
By FeministBoomer May 11th 2008 at 12:01 am EDT
Anyone that is against AAs voting for Obama GREEDY. They facts speak for themselves, the last two Dems that won the Whitehouse did it with AAs votes.....

1976, Carter only got 47% white to 82% black. Clinton in 1992 got only 39% white to 84% black; and in 1998 46% white to 82% black........

I didn't hear such an outrage comming from white democrats or the media........And people wander why the race question comes us.......No democrat would have been in the whitehouse for the AA vote.

All those GREAT ECONOMIC years in the 90s wouldn't have happened had Clinton not carried so many AAs.........

But now they are racist because they vote for someone of their own race.......

Re: ...And

i do not vote for racists, I do not care what color they are. My mother was a Jew, and family died due to lumping people in one lump. How dare you. This is not the audacity of hope I want, I want all races and cultures in this Country to have what they need. The line is bs and racist. White needs to be taken out. It is true Rich Elits that have narcisistic ways of life, or power rich people have a problem. It is not about race, it is about money and power and using it to hurt people. This hurt me, and I am half Jewish.

Re: ...And
By Donia19 May 11th 2008 at 12:15 am EDT
You're taking the statment too literally. Who for the most part runs this country, and for that matter - the world? I maybe wrong on this, but I think they're white. The percentage of rich whites versus rich blacks are not even in this stratosphere.

The point was made to show the atrocities that occur in different parts of the world, while the main players sit idly by and get richer - sometimes at the expense of the poor.

Problem
By Sandi May 11th 2008 at 12:29 am EDT
I saw this with respect, you have some real issues. There are a lot of poor people in this Country, white, hispanic, blacks to name a few. There are vets on the street that are not being taken care of, people die because they do not have healthcare and don't have the money to get it. It is not a "white" problem, it is a power problem. So when you vote, please make sure the person is accepting of all races. If not, we have a racist in the Whitehouse. No race, deserves to be without food, healthcare, a chance to do better. We are a Country of many people and races, cultures, religions. It is not race against race, it is about equality and balancing the wealth in this country. I want all children to have opportunities. This is not about race, this Obama quote was a racist quote and it brings the addage of race against race. Jews werent blonde enough, blue eyed enough, please understand this is not about race. This is about Power and who you allow to weld that power. I have been in the South, and it was disgusting, I have been in the NorthWest and it was disgusting how Indians were treated, I have seen poor white people being treated badly, I have seen hispanics being treated badly. I have seen darker blacks treating lighter blacks horribly. My best friend was ridiculed by her own race. Please understand your power in this Country, and understand to weld it on hate of one race is hurtful to someone that does not feel as you think they feel.
Re: ...And
By Democrat in Livonia, MI May 11th 2008 at 12:36 am EDT
Obama claimed that he had NEVER heard anything anti-white or controversial from Rev. Wright until recently. If that is the truth, how can this type of statement show up in a book he wrote years ago? This isn't about race, it is about telling the truth.

With respect, please get therapy. Hate is a destroyer of the soul. There are more Chinese people in the world, that is a fact. Their lives are not very good either, and it is from the top, Chinese. It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with Power. Do you hate whites?

I blasted you because of the "tone" of your post, and the mention of, "Let the AA's keep their AA candidate." I resented it then, and I resent it now.

Part of the problem with posts, is that the written word can take on a whole different meaning than its intended purpose.

You see; I could care less about what you or anyone else thinks.........call me anything you want.........i don't care.......my single goal is to have my child back from IRAQ on an airlplane in a seat and not in a FUC_ing box. Does that make me a racist? Because I wouldn't want to offend anyone.
Re: Go back to the GOP

It's not about supporting HRC. It's about what you can read between the lines of many of the posts that are posted in the blogs.

No, you are not a racist because you support HRC - if you support her in earnest; however, some comments that are made are not indicative of real support for Hillary.
You go to the GOP
By Sandi May 11th 2008 at 12:01 am EDT
I am not a biggot or a racist. I do not lump whites, or any other race in a big wad. I am a human resource professional. I fire people who act and behave in such a manner. Being hungery has nothing to do with race! It has to do with who has the power and who has the money. People are starving in Africa, because their leaders are greedy and have conspired with big corporations. So, if we are such a small minded Country and can not see what is what, and blame the whites, the hispanics, the Asians, the Jews, we have real problems. And if any of these races have an attitude of hating another race, that is racist.
Re: You go to the GOP

There is a lot of GREED in the power structure of this country, and in corporations.......And who has the power, who runs the corporations.......

The statement was true....I don't understand why we can't have an honest conversation about who holds the power and who are the oppressors......

Just like in slavery times, there were AAs that told the masters of the plans of uprisings, but it was the masters that killed and mamed the slaves........

Samethings going on today.......Everyone trying to protect their interest at the cost of someone elses, it's SELFISH, AND GREEDY!!!!!!!!!!
Re: You go to the GOP
By Sandi May 11th 2008 at 12:16 am EDT

Well, think of it this way:

Obviously there are pastors that spew hate; much the same way they do in other parts of the world.....the middle east and iraq come to mind immediately. I suspect that in another 20 years or so; if you aren't a fundamentalist christian or part of Pator Wrights world, I guess we'll be caught in the cross fire........maybe the government will create a "Green Zone" in Washington for those of us who practice tollerance to be safe in. Our culture and our Shamanic belief does not spew hate. It teaches to be in harmony with Great Mother earth ourselves and with all creations by the Great Spirit grandfather, our common father of all creation.

Our pride is altogether different. We are taught to honor our ancestors with our every action and seek the peopper remedies to the maladies or injustice our people need to take care of. We do not promote nor threaten violence to anyone, we seek justice and not sympathy, which is only a 25 cent word for pitty. I understood your impication as to aluding that our people follow a similar theology to that of black liberation. Sir You are wrong with your assumption. To a person that understands few words are needed to get the message between lines. I resent the implication Sir, Maam with all due respect. Re: I sure am glad that a Native American is not
By andy492 May 11th 2008 at 1:15 am EDT
For the Democrats, this isn't about race at all. It's about who is qualified and who is not..Barak is not so because we won't vote for him we are all racists......does that make the entire republican party racists as well? Does that make the african americans who support Hillary Clinton racists? (Can they even be racists for not voting for another African American?) Not voting for Barak Obama because he isn't qualified is not racist, it's simply an attempt to win a national election in November of 2008 so that we can make fundamental changes in this contry come January 2009 but apparently you are quite happy with another 4 years of a Republican administration which; because you live in the greatest nation on earth is your right that thousands upon thousands of men and woman, black and white have given their lives for.
Re: I sure am glad that a Native American is not
By Sandi May 11th 2008 at 1:19 am EDT
Jan,
I really am concerned with your hate and calling someone a biggot because he will not vote for Obama. I will not vote for Obama, it has nothing to do with his color, he could be Asian. If he was Asain, and wrote something about the poverty fo the world is caused by Blacks. I would not vote for him. The Poverty of the world is caused by power and it does not matter what color of a person's s skin, it is caused by the person abusing that power. There has been "cleansing" of races, and it is happening now and it is black on black in Africa. It happened in Bosnia, and President Clinton went in and tried to stop it. The color was not black on white.

If you are attending a Church, an organization that is spouting hate on any race, leave it. Hate destroys your soul.

I think the person who responded to you on your blog said it very well, Jan:

I am sorry to say, that you sir/madam, are a moron. I hate to have to lower myself to your level, but it seems that is the only way of communication you understand. Re:
By andy492 May 11th 2008 at 1:36 am EDT
But be aware:

If Senator Obama becomes the Democratic Nominee; there will be Democrats who will not support him. Some because they don't feel he is qualified and yes some simply because of his race. Is it fair? Absolutely not. Is it right? Abosolutely not; but it is the reality of Life.

On the Republican side; race will be an issue for the evangelical christian base; the conservative base; the NRA base; and many of the little Republican Splinter groups in between.

I personally would have preferred to run a Clinton - Obama ticket in 2008. WE would have definitely won that. Then in 2016 run Obama and whom ever he chose as his running mate. That 8 years with Barak as vice president would have shown anyone with doubts that they had nothing to fear from an african american as president AND it would have eliminated any doubt as to his experience. Additionally; Senator Obama would have been able to prove by deeds that he does not share the opinions of Reverend Wright or anyone else that the Republicans are going to try and dig up on him. I firmly believe that is how America will obtain the first of what i'm sure will be many african american presidents.
Should Senator Obama run in November and loose; he will have a harder time coming back on the national political scene in 4 years and Hillary Clinton will certainly NOT make the same mistakes twice....even if it means sending Bill to Italy on vacation for the Primary Cycle!
I'm not at all a racist, i'm a realist that tries to make the best possible choice to win every election possible.
No, Jan.

Let's not forget where the discussion originated. It originated with a quote from Obama. For posting this quote, you have called me a racist, a bigot and an idiot. Yet, I didn't write the words, I only posted the quote. Intelligent debate is a wonderful tool. One you have yet to learn. People don't listen to your point of view by being called names.
