Convention or Coverage

American citizens are watching a convention which hardly has spoken a word.

There is only one station televising the convention (CSPAN). All of the rest are windbags discussing Hillary Clinton with other windbags. The coverage as described by Newsweek is convention ignorant. (http://www.newsweek.com/id/155635) They spend 80% of the day discussing amongst themselves and not listening to a word from the podium.

Larry King tackled the very same subject last night.

Early this evening it was reported that Obama has read HRC's speech and is pleased. Yet 2 hours later Tom Brokaw and Keith Olberman discuss the same subject as though she was still the loose cannon.

Now my question is this. When talking heads discuss whatever they please from whatever perspective they like, without the benefit of listening to more informed speakers .... is not the problem between the "two wings of the democratic party" simply a question of media ratings?

For me. It's clear. And it's really pissing me off.

No surprise, really. Look into Mike Gravel's new book "The Kingmakers: how the media threatens our security and our demcocracy"

True. For me the surprise is how blatently they intentional fill the airwaves with empty headed opinion or debate.

Give me call-in radio.

I have actually learned all my most important FACTS due to talk radio.
I learned about PNAC in 1998 from KGO in San Francisco
I am lucky to be able to get left wing politics here---
because actually, call in radio, has been shown to be 80+ % right wing Limpballs, Hannity, Savage, etc
but XM and Sirius has also been a great help in other areas.

I am presently reading "the political brain" by Drew Westen

about how we are controlled because of EMOTION etc

imo

People don't really want to hear the FACTS.

It is why "reality tv shows" (which are about as far from reality as possible) are so popular.
It is entertainment and that is what people want----the sad part, is that they then choose to believe what they see hear as fact.

I am a C-SPAN junkie---watching the senate and congress and hearings live----and I often then switch between the msm's to see how they are reporting what I just watched.
If more people would do this---they would never believe anything the msm is reporting.
btw---FOX NEWS IS HILLARIOUS (IF IT WEREN'T SO CRIMINAL) on how they spin what I just saw happen live.

also----I have tryed a hundred times to get people who start telling me about what our congress is doing or NOT doing, to watch C-SPAN----
without exception----I get back
OH God no, it is sooooo boring.

Agreed.

But, look at from the MSM's view; no drama equals no ratings. But since they're ginning up all of the discourse, they may be doing us a favor by getting people to watch who hadn't planned on it just to see if there is a fight.

Only partly true. Sure, Obama like's Hillary's speech. So what. He knew months ago she would do this. For months division in the party has been the leading subject on every newscast.

McClumsy is using that division "in our face". This debate of coveragers is giving air not to Obama .... but for McCain

Ever heard of take out the middle man. Save yourself a headache?

I am watching c-span. So I have no idea what they are saying. I'm sure they will still be repeating themselves this weekend
