It's recently come to my attention that, among some of the more juvenile aspects of this forum, there is a disparity in the way that we approach language and how others communicate. The site asks us not to use obscene content. So let's explore obscenity.
Read further if not offendable.
Recently, my wife had written a post about the passage of HR 1955, The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. In the beginning of the post she used the term 'mother fucking' to describe our congress because of her passion about over what a horrible job our congress is doing. There were many responses to her post chastising her for her use of the vernacular. Because of this myopia, people failed to actually engage in the issue. Some even went so far as to ask what a college girl knows about anything, failing to realize that she knew about HR 1955 when most of America still doesn't know about it.
In short, one term, a number of responses about the term, and no actual engagement.
In the haze of that event FoS writes Link
"Real Women Don't B*tch / An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton. In this post FoS uses b*tch a good number of times, and in comments eventually drops the asterisk, and pens a shit as well. Other chime in with the unedited version of bitch
Now let's take a look at the use of the asterisk as a tool of censorship. Often times when censoring the vernacular people use characters such as @$%-#*&. There, you have no idea what that could be other than a six letter word. It was Chenney. With b*tch we are left with a few options: batch, bitch, botch, and butch... Not quite that cleverly masked, but then it was never intended to be.
Which brings me to intent. Nicole was condemning the actions of an overwhelming House. HR 1955 is vague and should have been handled by the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, but for some reason in our post 9/11 world we can't have anything premillennial. In this case the term mother fucking has no sexual connotation, it refers to the act of taking advantage of providing figures in a/an social, economic, legal, emotional, physical, or cultural way. And personally, I tend to see the Constitution as the Mother of all of our liberties, and yes, congress is fucking her.
In FoS's post the bitch is used both as a verb and a noun. But that wasn't really the most obscene part of it. That was in the comments that came on the post. Comments about the size of people's penis is elementary fashion, hyphenated, as if... for extension. Although I must say my personal favorite is the 'G-d' to be code for "God". You see, by putting "God" in hyphen's I'm not taking the "Lord's" name in sake.
We should pull out our obscenity check list right about now. Has any of this tried to arouse you sexually in a lewd manner... I certainly hope you don't perceive it to have been intended that way, but if you do I think I might find you obscene.
I suppose I'll leave you all to decide if this is moral. Perhaps the conversation will be interesting.

Comment to Annie B and Mark: Jeez guys, I'm really sorry HAM hasn't lost his account yet. He is completely vulgar and his attacks on Annie are disgusting.
Comment to Shopman: You wrote on the other post that you have never seen DeeAnna admit when she's wrong. I have. DeeAnna has once or twice in the past read through something too quickly and drawn the wrong conclusion. I have done the same thing myself. We always approach each other with caution. It has gone both ways that one of us has talked the other one down from the clocktower before. I have admitted my mistakes, and I have seen DeeAnna admit hers as well. Just thought you should know. It's mostly in PM's that she and I deal with our differences though, not out in public, and not with namecalling. Although once I poked fun at one of her posts, and it pissed her off and she called me a third grader. I responded appropriately with "I know you are, but what am I." (That's a classic) - That one took about 4 emails to hammer out, but hammer we did.
Comment to DeeAnna: I don't really have a problem with your language. There's "lightweight swearing" which is what you do, and I do sometimes, and lots of others do, and then there's complete profanity, which I have only seen a few people do. I guess one could argue that even the lightweight stuff is unnecessary on the blog, but a few well placed expressions add color and emotion to a post, so I think it's relatively harmless. This is the internet, we're obviously not Quakers here. No one's going to see the word "bitch" for the very first time on Partybuilder. Even young Asher. Because he can dish it out himself.
Don't let people push your buttons, and find a better sidekick to watch your back than HAM Radio. Agreeing with someone as completely vulgar as HAM weakens your position. You are much, MUCH stronger on this blog all by yourself than you are with HAM on your side. You and Annie wont get along until we see an Obama-Clinton or Clinton-Obama ticket. (Which will happen immediately after Hell freezes over).
But to lower yourself down to the level of vulgarity necessary to agree with HAM is way beneath you as an intelligent woman.
Just my two cents - take it or leave it.
