I'm paying attention and my prayers go out to the families there.

Horrible Indeed, for once Barb, we agree, but Deb, just look at the other two comments of apathy.

Speaks volumes to me and most others, the non commenters are living in their dream worlds.

Maybe it would be wise to be interested in India affairs if only for the fact they have real weapons of mass destruction.

From a humanity standpoint, all should be concerned. Shame on us.

The average American doesn't care...
By Brett A. Encelewski Nov 26th 2008 at 11:47 pm EST (Updated Nov 26th 2008 at 11:47 pm EST)
Of WE are not paying attention. India barely fuels our economy; is not sexy or fashionable; or the greatest place to travel.

Why would the average American care whether people live or die in India. Children have been choking on rat fur and dying of starvation in India for DECADES now... and no ones gives notice or pause until something "spectacular" and newsworthy takes place.

It is kind of like. There are many, many rapes every DAY in our country (ALASKA has one of the HIGHEST DV rates in the nation); but a pregnant woman, say, gets raped; or an 80-year old woman; and that makes CNN Headline news for the week--not because it is basically mind-numbingly sick... but because it has a great "Jerry Springer" ratings-value to it.
