Dear Young People,
I have read posts and e-mails from you complaining that you are being ignored by the national parties. Some of you have expressed doubt that anything you have to say or contribute to the debates we have on Blogs and in Web Forums may be insignifigant. This is not true.Allow me to offer some encouragement. But first, the obvious.
In the wake of Fmr. Rep. Mark Foley (Rephedohilliac) and his disgusting acts against our great young people serving as pages in our nations capital, don't be surprised if you don't get many responses to your posts and e-mails.Because of him , not very many people want reach out to you personally for fear that you might not trust them.
I do have good news for you, however. You do not need to start a group for your age brackett. There already is an established strong group just for the youth. I would encourage you to join and become active.
The group is called Young Democrats of America and it is designed just for you.
You'll be proud and encouraged to know that your peers played a major role in this last election and there are high hopes that you will continue to do so in the future. Young Democrats of America recognizes just how valuable you are. Not just for your votes, but for the future of this great nation of ours. This country will not some day be yours. This country already is yours and you are already contributing to it's growth and prosperity.
So, please visit the YDA and learn about yourselves and about what you are doing to make this country a better place.
Here's the link.
P.S. As a 32 year old who's in that little known "Silent Generation" aka (The Ignored Latch Key Kids Who Raised Themselves Because Both Parents Worked And Did'nt Know What An After School Program Was, Generation), It is my responsibility to usher you into a little something called "Life" as well as bridge the communication gap between yourselvs and the infamous Baby Boomer Generation who control much of the government today and some of them don't seem concerned with what's important to you. We're not perfect at it, but we try. We're that unknown generation who dresses just like you, still gets carded when we buy a 6 pack , understands all the same technology like you do, fits in well with you , can communicate well with you, but we are indeed a whole generation older than you are and we know to stay in our own age group when it comes to certain things. Yeah, we don't go there !(ahem) So anyways , Please understand that you do belong. You do matter . You are valuable and I won't let this nation ignore your generation and take it for granted like they did my generation. I can at least promise you that much.
Happy Holidays!

1. Their own individual creativity and ideas.
2. Their vigor, strength and tenacity.
3. Their morals, principles and beliefs.
4. Much wise council from their elders and mentors or, the lack thereof.
All of us have a huge stake in America's future. Youth, seniors, the middle-aged of all races and cultures who are citizens of this great country of ours.
I have five children, 4 of whom are voting age. Mom and dad have been there for them. Mom worked tenaciously in the home while the children were young - I may be president of the board in this family but my wife is the CEO, CFO, COO and a few other C-O's, and my family would be devastated without her. None of my voting-age children voted in the last election. Each of them was in one of the following categories: 1) They were "too busy" or 2)"they forgot" or 3) "they don't think their vote will count". I love my children but these "excuses" are just that - excuses! I told them that in 2008 I would personally drag them to the polls if I had to!
The youth of this country simply need to step up to the plate and do their part along with each and every other American! Join The Young Democrats. Take a stand. Make some noise - and make a difference! Don't make excuses - make choices that make a difference. Nothing will be handed to you easily - you will have to fight tooth-and-nail for everything you want that is worth having. I am the result of this - an African-American male who did not end up in Jail, who takes care of his children, who loves the Lord, who works hard everyday, who adores his wife and who would die for what he believes.
What really belongs to the youth of this nation is their right to exercise their right to vote, organize, protest, march, run for office - make a difference for everyone - because one day they will not be youth anymore!
I wanted to sort of , "aknowledge" them with my post. Of course we all have something to bring to the table, but they need to know how important they are. That's all it was for.
My generation votes in numbers three times or more that of the younger voters. I think that's because we consider it our duty to vote.
I admit I'm apalled at the level of ignorance in the young people I meet when it comes to political matters. I've met more who have never voted than I have met who vote regularly. So they have the opportunity to make their voices heard. The question is whether they are willing to do the work of becoming educated and active.

Shared Debt Relief Association needs the leaders of local Not-for-Profit organization. Including the local chapters of the Democratic Party to take the leadership-roll is correcting the debt problem. When I left the Commission on Economic Opportunity we had been tasked to find alternate means of funding our community programs. Shared Debt Relief is just such mean. The local community controls the program. The youth have energy and zeal. They don’t like hearing that it has always been done this way. Mobilize their vitality and teach them how they can make a difference. I do what I do because of the huge social debt I owe to my mentors of that time. We need folks to stand up and lead.
I also wish we could encouage those who are working to pave the way for the few - that they also need to take the time to get involved.
Thanks for your post DeeAnna -
The latch Key, I understand that well.
A wonderful post. The youth are one of the keys. I was a latchkey kid too, and it had an impact on how I evolved. And I don't think it was for the better.
That's why I'm happy there are things like after-school programs.
I'd like to say the kids should step up to the plate in the political arena. But I can't say I've been much different. For the majority of my adult life I was dormant in many political realities.
Sometimes it takes the older to wake up the younger, and other times it takes the younger to wake up the older. In this time of great upheaval, it is important that people awaken to the realities of this world.
Thanks for posting,
John.
