A CNN poll released today concluded that Senator John Edwards is the only Democrat who can beat all four major Republican candidates.

“On the Democratic side, Edwards performs best against each of the leading Republicans. In addition to beating Huckabee by 25 percent and McCain by 8 percent, the North Carolina Democrat beats Romney by 22 percentage points (59 percent to 37 percent) and Giuliani by 9 percentage points (53 percent to 44 percent).”

Sounds like the likely response to this poll, remembering that polls don't generally mean that much unless you're on the very bottom.

Poll data are likely to be skewed at this juncture. Folks who support Clinton may claim they'd support Giuliani over Edwards, just to strengthen Clinton's hand. However, if Edwards were to get the Democratic nomination, many (if not most) of the Clinton supporters would vote for Edwards over Giuliani in a real election.

Polls are worthless.
