Like so many of you, I was deeply saddened by the president's lack of respect for our judicial system and contempt for the rule of law.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, pursuant to my powers under Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, do hereby commute the prison terms imposed by the sentence upon the said Lewis Libby to expire immediately SOURCE
I could take this time to write about how the president's decision makes a mockery of our justice system, and I could ask why we wasted 2 years and millions of tax dollars he was going to let Libby off the hook anyway.

I could observe that the president thinks himself the only judge that matters in this case, and that the American people -- who put their faith in this system -- witnessed nothing more than a show trial.

I could write the Washington press corps and demand they ask the president if he plans to pardon or commute sentences for Jack Abramhoff, or any of the other loyal "Bushies" who have been convicted of felonies.

I could bemoan the fact that this president's actions have undermined the foundations of American justice and have done unrepairable damage to our national morale.

But instead, all I can think is this: Democratic Senators and Congresspeople take heed. The president has never hesitated to wield the power vested in him by the Constitution. It is past time you recognize that YOU have power as well, DO NOT BE AFRAID WIELD IT!!

Gridlock the White House
By Democrat in Los Angeles, CA Jul 3rd 2007 at 5:52 pm EDT
The Congress must work towards articles of Impeachment against Bush. The only reason Scooter got his sentence commuted was that he was loyal to "the family". This is an abuse of power that cannot go unpunished.

The Democratic majority must stop working with this low life. No more judicial appointments. No more white house desired legislation. If Bush cannot be impeached, he must be made impotent.

I am frustrated that the Democratic leadership has failed us in stopping the war. They failed us by failing to filibuster Alito. If they fail us again, I will leave the party.

On my 18th birthday, I proudly registered as a member of the Democratic party. If the party fails to stop the madness, I will leave after after 28 years of loyal support.

I find myself in a strange position. While I would love to see Bush/Cheney thrown under the bus in my opinion there is a far more urgent problem.
The congress needs to stop the needless slaughter of our Brave American Soldiers in the Bush/Cheney immoral war.
Thank you

unfortunately for our troops, it has become apparent the only two things that can end this war are: cutting off the funds, and impeaching this president.

Bush is determined to stay the course, and our majority is too slim in the senate to cut off the funding.... we're really stuck here.

Use of Power
By Democrat in Port Orange, FL Jul 3rd 2007 at 6:44 pm EDT
We all sit in awe watching as Bush utilizes his power to protect his friend(s). We all have powers granted by this living documents incorporated in the Constitution....have we all forgotten. Lets not be afraid to use our powers because if we don't we'll all lose our jobs.

Elected official represent those who went to the polls and voted them into office. They are obligated to that each time they vote for a bill, because if they don't, they will lose their job at the next election. It's all simple, why can't they all realize this. Pelosi won't consider impeachment, does she have a choice, if the voters who put those representatives in place all decide that they want him impeached, if they present the evidence which meets the definition, then those elected officials are obligated to vote the voice of their electors, not the pundits, not the lobbyists, not Pelosi, but the voice of their electors.
And while I'm on the box, lets lose the name Scooter, the man is an adult, convicted of a felony, HIS NAME IS LEWIS. Thank you and good night.

Well said. I too am disappointed that Pelosi took impeachment off the table. It is time to serve it up!

Libby/Congress
By Democrat in Fort Lauderdale, FL Jul 3rd 2007 at 9:13 pm EDT
I wonder how long Congress will wait and placate this administration......It is time to Impeach!! Forget about meetings, hearings,or discussions.....There is more than enough obvious Disdain and ignoring of the law of the land by this administration. Is Congress waiting for another September surprise so they won't have to make any major decisions.....Or are they waiting for the oil leases in Iraq to be divied up to American companies so they can make money on their stocks.....They need to do what they were elected for....It is obvious to me that this administration promised Libby they would make sure he never went to jail....I am just as sure if he did go to jail, he would have started talking...Congress needs to get everyone in this administration into their own jail cell.

THE BEST THING BUSH DID WAS TO FREE SCOOTER.
THIS WILL HELP THE DEMS.
WE BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION BEFORE AS DEMS.
IF IN THE FUTURE ANYTHING WILL COME OUR WAY IN SIMILARITY WE WILL HAVE SOMETHING AS A REFERENCE.

Impeach Now
By Democrat in Dallas, TX Jul 5th 2007 at 12:23 am EDT
Chairman Dean, please deliver a very simple message to Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid: Impeach Cheney and Bush now (and in that order). Do it now, don't delay, don't pass 'Go', don't collect $200.
They have got to stop hedging for the future. The republic is in danger today. Now. Forget 2008. 2008 will work itself out. If you don't act now, Cheney's fourth branch of government will enable another terrorist attack and there won't be another election.
