Five migrant workers from India who are fighting their exploitation under the H2B "Guest Worker" program began a hunger strike last week.

The migrant workers are demanding the ability to stay in the U.S without the threat of deportation while working for fair wages, the right to participate in a criminal human trafficking investigation of their former employer Signal International as well as the US and Indian recruiters who cheated them, Congressional hearings into abuses of the guest worker visa program in the US Gulf Coast, and concrete action from the Indian government to protect future Indian workers.

The issues surrounding this strike effect us all. Immigration laws threaten to undermine many of the fair labor practices that organized labor has fought so hard to gain.

We need to do all we can to support these Indian workers.

To support them is to also support the American workers and all the workers of the world.

Please do all you can.

Slavery traffic is but one of the results of so-called "globalization" and free trade.

Thanks Liz! On a somewhat tangential not, I look forward to PB moving away from the ridiculous Obama/Clinton war and on to some serious issues.

The H2B guest worker program can be a benefit to our country and international workers...like Microsoft's programs. But this case is horrible!

This story only scratches the surface. There is a lot of exploitation taking place under the H2B. Many are migrant farm workers. The so-called benefits to our country are cheap, exploitable labor providing downward pressure on wages and salaries for all Americans in the labor market. It helps a few at the expense of many.

But, if it weren't for H2B there'd be just that many more illegal immigrants earning poor wages so . . . What can you do?
