Bad? Brilliant?

I am a student (and former teacher) of History and Government and I am in total wonderment of how historical this year has been. I am moved, inspired and well aware of the implications of what 2008 means. Want to hear more? Read on...

I was born in 1968. I didn't get to participate in the Civil Rights movements. I wasnt aware of the world enough when Bobby and Martin died, but I a product of that time period and I believe that although I didn't get to be an activist during the 60's but I do get to be an activist and an advocate in a time that is changing before my own eyes.

I was all of 10 years old when I first started making calls for my local state congressman, and I have been active in the party and politics ever since.

In 1984 I saw my first incredible moment of political history when "Fritz" Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his VP; it was an amazing moment! Only the Democratic party had the guts and the foresight to do this, no matter the cost and no matter the outcome. The Dems do what is right and what is necessary to further those who have a limited voice in our society. I worked my backside off for the ticket (as I have for every Democratic ticket and Democrats of every office) and I have been very proud of the work I have done and things I have seen our party do as it pertains civil rights and social justice as well as in many other issues.
1992 came and Perot or not, it was time for a change and Bill Clinton finally got the country on a right track after the destructive years of Reagan/Bush. I was happy. 2000 came and we got cheated (as you all know). I was ready to fly down to Florida to help in the recount if necessary, but unfortunately the Repuke majority in the Supreme Court decided otherwise. I was incensed. History was being made in the most negative way.
Now 2008 has arrived and my hopes and dreams have been renewed! Nine candidates for our party ran for president this year including an Hispanic, an African-American and a Woman... incredible! Living through this historic moment has been an awesome experience.

I cannot describe to you the pride I have for the party I love and moment in history I am living in. In my lifetime I may finally see someone of diversity become president! I know now why I was put here on this earth at this time and not in the 60's, to help further the cause of change and further the maturity of a country that maybe, finally is growing up.
