Speaking as a parent of a kid with Autism, I think the teacher who did that needs to

1) never teach again or have any contact with children of an impressionable age

2) go live in the everglades, take up a new career as aligator chow, and never bother civilization again.

Although I do not know the whole story, the implication is clear: Our society is still in the denial stage when it comes to respecting those with disabilities. When will we as a society grow up? When will we stop being a "throw away" society that doesn't want to know about or care about people with disabilities? It is clear to me, as it has been for some time, that a lot of work is still needed. You want to know why I am a "Shameless Agitator" and Advocate? It is just for situations and issues like this.

Hey

How's it going, Patrick? Glad you're here. I will be SUPER happy to get into as many discussions as you wanna have.

Right now the blogs pretty weighted down with the fight between the passionate Hillary supporters and the passionate Obama supporters. It can get kinda nasty.

I'm not passionate about any candidates, but I am about issues. Environment, Educatiion, Economics, Homelessness, Healthcare, War, and Global justice are all things I care a lot about.

Good to meet you.

I appreciate the warm welcome! Issues as well are my thing, topics of interest and advocacy as it applies to Civil Rights and Social Justice (Especially as it applies to People with Disabilities), Education and Political philosophy.

Again, I appreciate the response.

My daughter's in 11th grade. It gets easier as they get older. Next year she'll be going on her second international trip with the school band.

We had good and bad teachers. Everytime one sent Emily home crying, I sent that one home crying as well. Seriously.

Violence begets violence, Id say rather than that, make the teacher do a long time of public service with people who have Autism. 12 hours a day for one year and then let's see what is what. That would be my recommendation.

Once again, it reinforces how much work needs to be done. 1 in 5 people have some kind of disability in our nation. Whether it be physical, mental, learning and/or emotional... when are we going to learn? When are we going to care?

Welcome

Welcome, Brother. Just to let you know, other people get bothered if you don't make a profile (display name other than "Democrat in Beetown, WI). Its a hang up that I don't share, but some can get pretty rabid about it. I'm also a mason, though not as active as I'd like. I'm also a progressive. Good to have you here!
