A couple of years ago, the blog I co-own, Bring It On! decided to interview Alan Grayson. What an eye opener! Knowledgable, rational, and firmly progressive, we agonized over what to cut, the interview was that good. Unfortunately, as a late entry into the primary campaign cycle, Grayson didn't muster enough votes to win the primary. No matter, I told myself, I'd found a candidate that stirred the power of optimism in me. I emailed him and told him, if he decided to run in 08, I'd be happy to beat feet for him. So, here we are, trying to make a dent in rosy red Lake County.

At least, that's how I always thought of it. I never ran into any Dems, and I felt, as a registered Dem since 1980, as a fish in some fairly hostile waters.

Alan asked me to help him at the Lake County Democrats Claude Pepper Dinner in September, where he would be speaking. I handed out flyers and put a copy of a Rolling Stone that had a great article mentioning Alan on each chair. Being around fired up Dems was a huge motivator. If you haven't explored what's available in your area Democratic Party wise, I urge you to check out your options. Surround yourself with like minds, and impossible things start sounding attainable.

Who is Central Florida? We're America's petri dish. The face of Central Florida is in constant flux. You can't step in the same river twice, thanks to daily new arrivals and constantly shifting demographic. We are the face of change, and the good old boy network is a dinosaur.

We just need to believe, and beat those feet.
