I was talking with my daughter when she was trying to understand how parties are setup. I suddenly realize I have never really thought about it and did not have the answer. I tried to look online, not too great with search engines, and did not find any answers.

The question is: Are they setup like a business with profit and loss statements, SEC regulations, are they considered nonprofit organization? What exactly is the infrastructure?

Does anyone know?
