So one of the bands we are sponsoring toured in ohio a few days this week and we went with them. One thing I can assure you, it will be as red as can be come November.

After talking to many people we ran across from gas station attendants to college students this is the overwhelming feeling and problems with Obama the majority had.

1. Most do not believe he has a problem with Reverend Wright. They think he knew exactly what the guy was about and he privately agrees with him.

2. Younger people are puzzled and annoyed at the racist charges his team has levied against Democratic Politicians. They believe the Obama campaign has actually refueled Racism to a greater extent with their accusations. Many believe, hispanics, asians, vietnamese and arabs suffer far greater and routine racism today in America and Obama's accusations will once again turn the focus off these groups and on to ONLY African Americans in educating against racism, despite the fact Obama's campaign has claimed Obama has not experienced the level of racisim these groups suffer daily THROUGH OUT the USA.

3. They believe he is dishonest and arrogant and the party in general has a problem with women in power. As one woman told me it's pretty obvious if you look at the primary they would never let Hillary win. Examples she gave:

They tried to declare him victory before New Hampshire, when he didn't win, they trotted out Kennedy to publicly insult Clinton ( Male ). They tried to declare victory after Feb 5th, when he lost Ohio and Texas they trotted out Richardson to blame Hillary for the party splitting ( male ) They tried to declare victory before West Virginia, when he didn't win they trotted out Edwards ( Male) to put the final nail in her coffin in their eyes. The pattern of him trying to silence voters in their minds goes much further then Fla and Michigan and has been the main thread of his campaign and they do NOT like that.

4. Obama's campaigns are pigs. They left messes all over the place, bussed in hundreds of people who walked across yards, became pushy at front doors and littered everywhere and left the mess behind for the residents to clean up. Not smart. Hotel Clerk, definitely bitter toward the slobs as he calls them.

Other notable remarks:

On voting in November:

Heck yea girlie I'm voting in November, didn't you hear me, I don't want that guy in the WH. I'm voting but not for him! ( senior )

He's mad at the Tenn GOP for taking Michelle to task after what he said about Bill Clinton? Hasn't Michelle been campaigning for him and giving her own speeches? She's fair game and he looks like a little boy that says I want what I want but only my way. ( College Grad income 130 grand a year )

Republican who admitted voting for Obama: Because we don't want Clinton on that ticket in any way, shape or form, she can beat us. Obama was the rising star in your Party who alienated a large portion of his own party's base and after this election he will be so battered he'll be lucky to be another Kennedy ( lifelong senator with no chance of ever ascending to the WH)

They banded against Hillary and made her lose. I'll never vote Democratic again.

and on and on the statements goes. You think bitterness is keeping Obama out in November. Well in Ohio oh yeah you might be right there is a healthy amount of distrust toward him and the party, bitterness for the way the party tried to end this primary many times. Ohio is now republican through and through because from what I heard its going to take a long time to get the people of Ohio to trust this party again.

Never say never. McCain is hanging himself now and he has not been vetted during this process yet.

I'm a Buckeye
By Sue Sue's Straight Talk Express May 20th 2008 at 12:07 pm EDT
I'm a Buckeye and Ohio is typically a conservative Republican state. Always has been. Depending on where you are in Ohio, it can be "red neck". That is my state. Ohio was not going to vote for Hillary in the fall either. They associate her with Bill and while they went for Bill both elections, they were discusted with Bill at the end of his term and that is why they were NEVER going to vote for Gore. Many found Bill's impeachment disgusting.

Sue I agree I'm African American and we are FAR from the majority here....it is going to be blood red this time you and I know it.... Obama can't talk smooth enough for the Republicans here. They don't care if McCain starts war in Mars they will not vote for Obama

Sue and Mgk69, don't be so sure Ohio is going "red" - I know you live there and all, but Ohio is a very fickle "swing" state, and while Clinton took the state, Obama actually won substantially more of the Independent and self-identified swing voters.

Never say never!

D. Tree........LOL and that my dear was a game...the Republicans came out in record numbers to vote for Obama....why....LOL Because they knew it would be the easy win for McCain here.... LOL
Re: I'm a Buckeye

MGck59 - however you will see that Obama has been receiving similar margins of Independent and swing voters in all the other "big" states that Clinton took.

Rush Limbaugh may think he's that important but, he can't claim responsibility for independents. His claim to fame is for GOP switching over to vote for Clinton, and the stats back that up.

Remember: he was telling listeners to vote for *clinton* NOT obama. logic tells me that the independent and swing votes for Obama were sincere.

D. Tree......LOL you are not giving the Republicans credit....beleive me they are shrewd. They are telling them to vote Hillary for DEMS like you who believe that Obama is the harder win for the Republican...LOL and we're buying it......LOL

I'm going to tell you how shrewd they are...LOL My people have been threatening to riot of Obama isn't the chosen one.....LOL The Republicans sure hope they do....LOL

D. Tree.......not humorous, maybe a little far fetched. I think people's reasons for Obama are mixed. I think my Black Community was used....I think the White Community was used......LOL Some look at Obama as the answer to our foreign crisis....show the world that WE are not savages "Look we have a Black President with a Muslim name"....now you have to admit that's funny......LOL What do you think that means though honestly......what does that mean....LOL Now we will be able to start mending foreign wombs. You have Iraq currently in a civil war Shiite and Sunni and you think Obama can mend that. Well if he's willing to do whatever to appease them....even it means handing you to the wolves...it might work!

Like the Bush

Just like the Bush blindness, DNC pitiful power broker blindness!
Re: more on it
By D. Tree May 20th 2008 at 12:54 pm EDT
the DNC is a convenient straw man, but you gotta face it: Obama has been winning this thing because of people voting for him plain and simple.

i don't really believe many of my fellow democrats can have such a low opinion of their fellow party members - certainly you are entitled to your opinion that we are all a bunch of idiots.

but in the end i do believe most of us - probably more than 90% - will cast our votes for the nominee in November because there is too much at stake and because we share too much in common to let it go any other way.

I understand your points, but it doesn't matter what Ken Starr says. And we have to count his time in office because she is running on those 8 years as part of her accomplishments. That is why they are tied together.

My argument all along is that if her name were not Clinton, she would have won this race hands down. Good or bad, she is is getting his flack!

nice anecdotes, but i would caution anyone reading this against believing 100% of Ohioans feel this way
By D. Tree May 20th 2008 at 12:51 pm EDT
"One thing I can assure you, it will be as red as can be come November."

The post makes one think that 100% of Ohioans have these feelings, which logic should tell you is impossible.

I'm sure the poster is reporting things "they heard," but the one-sidedness of the anecdotes points to the very real probability we are reading on-sided reporting.

While Hillary Clinton won more votes among long-time democrats, in Ohio Barack Obama actually won substantially more of the swing and independent voters.

Since Ohio is known as a "swing" state, its clear those who tend to "swing" between GOP and Dem favor Obama. Statistically speaking, that is.

The purpose of my comment is not to denigrate a Clinton supporter - or Clinton's candidacy - but to push back on the notion that Ohio is somehow a lost cause for Democrats in November.

That is fatalistic and negative thinking. The only way we lose Ohio is if we are not united in the fall.

And the only way that happens is if a huge margin of Democrats act against their own interests and vote McCain or don't vote at all.

D.Tree, Ohio is a swing state. But you have to understand the climate in Ohio. They are not really ready for "change". McCain is going to be viewed in Ohio as a different kind of republican. He is a war hero and in southeastern Ohio he will fair very well! They are gun toting, hunters, conservative christians, white working class people. They are not dumb, their needs are simple. Obama is not someone, in my opinion, that they understand or care to understand.

North of Columbus and south of Cleveland, the same type of atomosphere. My cousin lives in that area and even though he is black, he fits into that category. He is not voting for Barack. He simply cannot understand or relate to him. LOL Which is funny because he does not relate to me. I have too much education for him.

Southeastern Ohio, is a mix and I cannot get my head around what will happen. Cincinnati is very conservative, and very prejudice. I have never felt racism as I did when I lived in Cincinnati. But there are a lot of minorities there and colleges so we will see.

actually you should read their local colunists, he is not portrayed the way he is in the mainstream papers where he is paying for ads.

In fact I read one column where they listed money as the reason he would win the primary but fail as a president. He has thrown hundreds of thousands of dollars at the delegates as President he will not have that luxury in order to buy their support.

They used Howard Dean as an example in the column- Dean raised huge amojnts of money in his primary but failed when locked into a position as the head of DNC to raise any astounding amounts. The column predicted Obama too will see his fundraising start to diminish during the election and would raise standard amounts comparable to past sitting Presidents if he took the WH. In other words the article said he bought the primary and will have no funds to buy his agenda through the senate.
