Just a little tidbit for those of you that don't know, if Senator Obama happens to be elected the POTUS, it is up to our governor to select the person that replaces him in the Senate. So, rumor has it that his top two choices are Emil Jones and Jesse Jackson Jr. It should also be noted there is a strong chance Mayor Daley's brother is going to be running for Governor in 2010.

For those of you that have never followed politics in IL, it is a dirty game. More corruption in IL is in the forecast.

Garabge post
By Lincoln Park Dem Jul 19th 2008 at 11:45 pm EDT
I am active in Chicago and Illinois politcs here in the Democratic Party... I am elected here. This blog is sheer BS.

Notice there are no links, no sources.

Consider the source of the blog.

By AnneK Jul 19th 2008 at 11:49 pm EDT
I imagine the source of this post could spell garbage correctly. Yea.... I know, everyone typos. But it sucks to typo while you're insulting someone personally doesnt it - because it invites easy comebacks.

So, here's my question directed to Marie. If you dislike Mel so much, why read and comment on her posts? Why not just skip them and move right along to something you'd rather read - like some of my old posts in the archives... or just look for your friends or your favorite groups and comment on those...

WHY COMMENT here if all you have to say is "consider the source"?

this psot is not true and I will not let it go by when an untruth is being told to scare people.
Re: Garabge post
By AnneK Jul 19th 2008 at 11:57 pm EDT
Okay, I can respect it if you disagree with the post. But if you're going to tell everyone that this post is untrue because Mel didnt provide a link, then you should provide a source for your own information. Otherwise it's just you pointing a finger and calling Mel a liar.

I'm from the South and Chicago politics is kind of legendary in the stories we've all seen in movies and read in books. I'm willing to admit that could be as much myth as fact, but I have no info.

If you have credible information that refutes Mel's post, then share it and there's no need to add "consider the source".

if you read my blogs when I portray something as a fact...I ALWASY post a link. ALWAYS!

Serioulsy...do you think gossip with no source really has a place here? A place where people look for information?

I respectfully disagree if you do.

I got no problem with you, Marie, or with any posts that you have written. I'm just trying to show you that your accusation of Mel was unjustified on this post.
Re: Garabge post
By AnneK Jul 20th 2008 at 12:04 am EDT
Hey, Marie. Nevermind, I did your work for you.

Turns out, I found 2 sources that SUPPORT what Mel wrote.

She wrote that the ILLINOIS GOVERNOR would choose Obama's replacement in the Senate. Here ya go.

"WASHINGTON -- If the nation's voters decide to send Sen. Barack Obama to the White House, there will be another election of sorts in his home state.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a two-term Democrat at odds with members of his own party, would alone choose who succeeds the state's junior senator."

The other one is from the Chicago Tribune July 19th. look it up for yourself. Obviously Mel was telling the truth.

I just read the article you posted and I see a lot of names...some I know like Tammy Duckworth. I saw pure speculation. Not like this blog.

Look. First you suggested that Mel was lying because there were no references.

I found your references.

End of story.

The qualitative statement "It's a dirty game." was probably Mel's opinion. Which you are free to disagree with. But opinion is only that, and we are each entitled to have and express one.

Oh Look, Here's More that Agrees with what Mel said
By AnneK Jul 20th 2008 at 12:08 am EDT
""I don't think the governor is going to raise eyebrows for who he didn't pick," said state Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, a member of the Democratic-led House leadership team. "I believe the governor would pick an African-American."

The popular assumption is that the new senator would be one of Illinois' 11 Democratic U.S. House members, particularly Jan Schakowsky of Evanston, Jesse Jackson Jr. of Chicago or Luis Gutierrez of Chicago. The governor also could tap someone from the Illinois General Assembly or a statewide officeholder, or even someone outside the world of politics.

Increasingly, the name of Illinois Senate President Emil Jones comes up, both on Capitol Hill and Springfield. The powerful Chicago pol has been an important ally for the governor, and is widely credited for helping to raise Obama's profile for a Senate run while Obama was in the state Senate

Anne...the article is specualtive and mentions many names. Names Mel did not mention and some that are not in that article that Mel did mention. I like sources with factual information. That's all.

Yea, I see that there are several names that Mel did not mention. But the quoted source says he feels certain that the gov would tap and African American replacement - and then mentions Jesse Jackson Jr.

Why is this so offensive to you, Marie?
Re: Oh Look, Here's More that Agrees with what Mel said

the blog is speculative. Melanie had no sources but it was nice of you to her research into another specualtive source.
Re: Oh Look, Here's More that Agrees with what Mel said
By AnneK Jul 20th 2008 at 12:51 am EDT
you wanted sources, I found two. Do you actually refute that the governer of Illinois will choose the Senate replacement?

If so, then by all means, pop out a fucking SOURCE for that. If not, then shine this whole argument up nice and shiny, turn it sideways, and cram it.

I don't know Emil. I know the Mel! Lincoln, I am no different than any other Hillary supporter, except, I am sillier, and you have gotten along with me. you seem to be calculating your replies, rather than the spontaneous fun person, you were. we won't vote obama. you'll all live! As for Jeese Jr, I liked him, til he sold dad out. Jesse was just talking off the cuff. i told them, linc, i thought you might have a list of hilary bloggers. they laughed. do you? put me down, if i'm not already.
Same as the rest of the Hillary supporter,

Well
By illinoismel Jul 20th 2008 at 12:53 am EDT
First of all I want to thank AnneK and Dona for being there for me while I was busy doing other things.

Secondly, Marie is it?, if you are elected to something in the Democratic party here in IL, I know it has to be from up there in Chicago because the Democrats down state would chew you up and spit you out.

Thirdly, it is true in the places like the press, that Gov. Blago is strongly considering these two as replacements and I certainly don't understand what your post about this being a fear for people really means.

"this psot is not true and I will not let it go by when an untruth is being told to scare people."

They are Democrats from Chicago that you elected. If they are so fearful and it scares people, get them the hell out of office. What are they doing there in the first place.

Forthly, here is a credible link about Daley's brother wanting to scratch his itch - Link

Fifthly, do not call me a liar. If you read the post, it said rumor has it, rumor is rumor in the political world and the press plays on it. But Emil Jones runs the government in IL right now and if you are so involved you would know that. What he has done with the budget and Mike Madigan, the leader, is making a joke. I personally cannot wait until Blago shakes hands with Ryan in prison.

And last but not least, you little lady, will not be able to get the best of me on this forum. You just might have bit off a little more than you can chew this time.

Once again, thanks Anne and Dona. Appreciate the help.

They had an article in the Chicago Sun-Times
By Maggie B. Jul 20th 2008 at 12:55 am EDT
a couple of weeks ago by Michael Sneed and it had a lady as being his replacement if he becomes POTUS. I started to print it and don't remember her name. she was someone I never heard.

Isn't it the case that by that time
By Hollywood Jul 20th 2008 at 4:48 am EDT
the now Lt Governor of Illinois might be the governor? Isn't the governor under suspicion of some wrongdoing?

I guess by the standards Mel sets we will never have a politician from Illinois in national office, because it seems that each and every one of them is tainted. Oh, and politicians from all other states are squeaky clean.
Re: Isn't it the case that by that time
By illinoismel Jul 20th 2008 at 2:58 pm EDT
Well, since 4 of the last 7 governors in this state have been or are in prison, I'd say that isn't too good of track record, do you? I really look for it to be 5 of the last 7 before the Rezko thing is all said and done.

Unbelievable

Why
By Someonewhocares Jul 21st 2008 at 10:56 am EDT
Why is everyone getting all pissy about Mel having a oppionion..... especially since two links were posted to back it up? This is crazy.... how many of us live in Chicago???? Who are we to say what the leaders of that City or the leaders of Ill actually do for the people???? I have been there and I will tell you Chicago is very dirty and looks like crap..... nothing what you would think it is when you listen to people talk about how Obama does so much. Why not lay off of people.
