McCain wants it both ways. On Monday he declared that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."

Oops. A few hours later McCain flip-flopped and said we had a financial crisis on our hands.

Now, McCain wants to study the economy. Since he flunked economics at the Naval Academy, maybe McCain should do some studying. But launching a government study is the typical republican method for delaying action. Bush launched a study on climate change and look how much action he's taken in that regard.

It is ironic that McCain wants to launch a commission in the style of the 9/11 Commission, a group that he opposed.

McCain is a one-issue candidate: War. He is a fish out of water with respect to the economy. A self-admitted economic ignoramus, McCain has no business discussing the topic. He is constantly winging it in an area where he has no knowledge. And Palin is even worse -- her economic experience is limited to taking a village of 7,000 that had a balanced budget and levying a $20 million debt on it.

As I recently saw on a page soliciting ideas for bumper stickers:

Bush put the Economy in the Toilet; McCain will Flush it.
