On a Sunday morning in early September the Republicans took stock. They had just had an seemingly electrifying convention - had a war hero for president - and a rock star as vice president. Things were looking up - or so it seemed.

All around them they were surrounded by admissions of their own failures. Unemployment at its highest rate in years. Home foreclosures running unchecked. Trillions of dollars lost in a war that despite their claims we were not winning.

The American public looked to their convention for answers and all they got were chants of USA. Not one message of substance.

John McCain said I'm going to shake up Washington and was applauded by lobbyist. Lobbyist that run his own party. Sarah Palin belittled workers who help the poor and was applauded by lobbyist.

To the delusional reality is what you make it. I could almost here a fiddler playing in the background.

I wonder if Nero claimed he was "a small goverment conservative," thus justifying allowing Rome to burn?
