Die Hard Supporters and Their Role in November either way

There are many passionate Hillary and Obama supporters. Should their candidate win they will move to the forefront of their presidential bid. Should their candidate lose their participation in November is not a given.

Here in lies some fundamental issues of support and acceptance. When Obama and Clinton asked for support - it was for support to help make them the Democratic nominee for president. This support wasn't for themselves it was for the party they both belong too.

What has happened is that supporters of both sides have used their request as an all or nothing bargaining chip. They have superceded the request of their candidate for their own purposes. Those purposes are an intense dislike of the opposition and their supporters.

It is party on party crime. Divisive infighting with only one winner - the Republican party. I would ask everyone to honor the original request made by their candidate first. Second - if you can't do that - please remove the nuclear devices of spite from the halls of the democratic party that invited you all in. Third - fight hard for your candidate but understand - your candidate will fight hard for the party.

Thank you -

a different angle

Those who feel uncomfortable about backing Obama for president, please try this angle and see if it works for you:

Instead of campaigning "for Obama", see if you can campaign on an issue or group of issues. There are other political organizations--eg. Moveon.org, codepink, etc. that one can join that a focusing on issues more than the candidate. This morning, John Edwards asked for help in his campaign to end poverty. Joining up with him still promotes democratic party values in a nonpartisan way. (Of course, ending poverty should be a BIpartisan issue, but we all know that the repubs only care about poor people when they want their votes.)

Ladies, we may not win the White House this time around, but that doesn't mean that we can't take over everything else. Let's work hard to elect more women to Congress. Let's get more women in state and local government. Let's focus on issues that women care about and fight the republicans on those issues. We are the ones who have the power to change hearts and minds. We are the ones who go into the voting booth with our children and grandchildren on our minds. If we don't stand up for children, who will? We can unite on the issues.

Personally, I have adopted a new strategy in my war against the republicans. I am going PINK. Florida is considered a "red" state by many, but if we can get enough women to band together we can turn it PINK. We can put the focus on ending the war in Iraq so that we can fund human needs at home. With 70% of Americans opposed to the war & occupation in Iraq, we know that there are LOTS of registered republicans in that group. We need them on our side. Maybe we can't get everyone to jump on the Obama bandwagon, but we should be able to get them to vote with us based on the issues that we put before them. Since I need those republicans (who are opposed to Bush's policies) to win FL in Nov., the best way I can see to do it is by going PINK. I hope that some of you will join me. Please wear pink on mother's day as a show of solidarity. We need all the help we can get.

Peace,
Barb

After Denver....

I truly believe that after the nominee is chosen, we will see the conceding opponent rise up and use all their persuasive powers to convince their supporters, independents and disillusioned GOP members to vote for the Democratic nominee.

This nation can't continue its course in Iraq, on healthcare, on the economy, on the environment, on civil rights. The Supreme Court nominees by the next POTUS will determine rulings for the NEXT THIRTY YEARS!

For anyone who thinks "their" candidate is more important than this country, I can only feel pity and shame.
