Again, why I'm voting for Barack Obama!

I am posting this again because it seems like the Repubs have overrun this site w/ trolls and nastiness. No, I did not use extended post or whatever, because their crap is taking up entire pages, so here's my turn! God, I don't miss not being on here all the time!

Well, once again I have found myself needing a break from this cynical little world. Before I go, I thought that I would tell all of you the reasons I will be supporting our presidential nominee in November. The first time I heard the name Barack Hussein Obama was from the Republican, baseless propaganda that circulates courtesy of the internet. I thought to myself, "No way will a man w/ that kind of name become president of our country in the times that we are facing". Yeah, I saw the emails about his church, his racist slurs in his book about his father, and so on and so on, and like so many others I was terrified. So that's when I started to pay attention. First, I used snopes and verified that the statements that had me up in arms were false. I started watching the debates, his interviews, and anything that I could find about him, I gave my attention to. I had never watched a debate before in my life. I never cared. I've never really thought that my vote mattered or that I could make a difference in who became president of our country. And as we have all seen with the very close primary contests that took place, every vote did matter!

I do not claim to know a whole lot about politics. I do not claim to have been a hard-core Democrat my entire life. The first time I voted was in 2004 because I knew even then that this country couldn't afford 4 more years of Bush! But this is the first time in my life that I am truly passionate about what happens and really believe that the man before us can make a difference! And if the fact that I haven't voted 20 times before makes my opinion meaningless to some of you, then you are wrong. I've had enough sense to hate Bush from day one and 2000 would have been the 1st election I could have voted in, but I was only 20 and honestly didn't care or think my vote mattered. But people such as myself are the future of this nation. We are the ones that will rise up in protest this November. We are the ones that will make sure that another Republican does not enter the White House of our great nation! And yes, we will be at those polls in November!

The reasons that I so strongly believe in this man after starting w/ such a poor opinion of him are very simple. As I listened to the debates between him and Clinton one thing became very clear. He was different from any other politician I had ever seen. When Clinton was asked a question, she would talk the audience, including myself, in circles, something I always felt like politicians did. Sometimes I wasn't even sure if she really answered the question. But when Sen. Obama answered a question I followed him all the way through to his answer. I understood him! Amazing! The more and more I heard him speak the more blown away by him I became. I began to see that Barack Obama is a man that I would welcome into my home and have a normal, civilized conversation w/, and maybe even over a beer. Who has ever felt that way about a politician? Not me. He has two small girls and a wife that he seems completely devoted to. That alone makes me believe that he only wants the best in this country for the sake of the future of his own family. To me, his motivation comes from them and is nothing but sincere. He is tired and fed up! And I am as well! He has seen this country go down the drain in the last 8 years and he is going to do something about it!

Some of you say that he doesn't have experience. To that I say "Great!" Look where that so called experience has got us! We are deep in a war that we should have never been in and he was the only candidate that was clear minded enough from the beginning to see that cowboy politics would only kill more Americans. Our economy is slowing dying, millions are unemployed, uninsured, and barely getting by. And lets not forget the oil prices! And while we are on the topic of oil, the gas tax break is crap and he is the only candidate truthful enough to admit it. My state, Indiana, gave us a break from the tax a few years ago and it bankrupted our transportation dept. and cost us hundreds of jobs, including my own. So to the notion of his lack of experience, I say bring it! Experience is worthless if it's the same experience that got us to this breaking point.

Another important issue for me is taxes on the elderly. My grandparents are currently working full-time jobs because they can't afford to retire. This year they had to take out a loan to pay $5,000 in taxes to our federal government. They have been employed, tax-paying citizens of our country their entire lives! How dare our government take their money like that!?!?!?! And Sen. Obama's tax plans can help ensure that this will not happen to them again!

If you are scared of what he will do in the face of foreign leaders, I want to know why? The Repubs are going to try to tear him up on this, and I say bring it! We only have 2 choices. McCain, who has vowed to continue the "Shoot first, ask questions later" war and refuses to even open up dialogue w/ Iran. Or a man that will go to these leaders w/ compassion and begin to have firm, but reasonable conversations w/ them? He will ask the questions first, but will stand by w/ force and make very clear that we will use our military if need be! I think he said in his AIPAC speech something so important...It has only been recently that democracy was seen as a weakness! I couldn't have said it better myself!

Give me a man w/ a fresh face, clear mind, and most of all a conscience! I think that is something that I haven't felt that I have ever seen in a politician! Conscience......

I constantly here these exit polls saying that Obama cannot get the blue collar, white vote. Well, let me quickly tell you that I am a white woman, with 2 small children, and a white husband that works in construction. We live in rural Indiana. Neither of us have finished college. I think that we are pretty much the vote that they say he cannot get! But he has it! He has my vote, my husband's, my mother's, sister's, brother-in-law's, grandmother's, and grandfather's (who by the way, was a die hard Clinton supporter!), and cousin's (who was a die hard Repub). My point is that this country is pissed! And we have come a long way but have much farther to go! And this man is our only hope to put an end to the shi* that we have been dealt by the last so-called "president"!

Call me niave, say that I sit in a circle and sing "Kum by ya" or whatever, call me a tree-hugger. But I am voting for a Democrat in November, are you?

We've already identified you as a troll. At least stick to one name.

I would expect nothing less from you.... I am only giving my honest opinion. You can stay focused on the false negative propaganda that you are, but you are only encouraging a Republican vote. So, to me you are nothing more then a troll. But that is your right!

And just to refute your posts, from what I have read the merger of the DNC to Chicago is to keep mistakes like what took place in 2004 from happening w/ Kerry's campaign. Keep cherry picking Fem Dem, I'm still not buying it!

You know what... It is my right to think whatever I want. I still have the right to post on this site. If nothing else, more so then anyone who continues to beat down the party that they are claiming to represent. These people should be ashamed of themselves, but as I have seen, they obviously have no shame. I will be supporting our nominee, the Democratic party nominee, and they will not. Attack me and trash my post, but at least mine is productive for the goals of the party. What I have seen on here today is typical of the Republican thinking and should not be tolerated. But again, I respect THEIR right to post whatever they want. It does not mean that I have to sit back and keep my mouth shut.

Concerned Dem: You know what? The ones trying to bring down the party, are the ones who have the audacity to try and silence the ones supporting the party.

Go Figure!

One More Thing: These kind of posters last on the average of 30 minutes on the Pub sites - wonder why?

I hear ya Donia. Don't let these people get to you. I've had to take so many breaks from this site. Sometimes I think I was a better person before I found this place. Sometimes the negativity gets the best of me! But I've tried to stop that as of recent and stay focused on the goal at hand!

Five stars Concerned!

I too am a white woman whose husband works in construction. Are we blue collar? You bet! While I have no children, I have a niece and three nephews (one who is in Iraq fighting this atrocious war!). I am also 51 years old and have never been so excited to vote for president!

I am so tired of seeing the trolls on this site! It's wonderful to see someone who has researched, followed the campaign and made herself knowledgeable about our nominee.

I'll see you at the polls in November! I've never been more excited then now either! We have a great opportunity before us and people want to continue to bring us down! I can't understand how anyone rational can look at the 2 choices before them and vote for McCain. Our country is in deep despair and McCain only vows to continue digging the hole! It's scary! We just have to move right past them and cast our ballot.

DEMOCRATS 2008!

That is fine as well. As a woman, I also admire HRC for what she has accomplished and I think she is a huge asset in the years to come! Again, I respect the opinion of people that do not post the propaganda based rhetoric that has overwhelmed this blog today. From what I have seen of your posts, they are respectful, and nothing like the crap that is on here today. The fearmongering, hateful trash that I'm seeing is nothing but what the Repubs want us to believe and I will NEVER vote for a Repub! EVER! Peace to you pcmoore!

Kum by ya! ;)

I think sometimes the peace comment is important. I hate that many of the HRC supporters or vise versa think the other side is against them. And peace is very much needed around here!

LISTEN, No one stole a DAMN thing from HRC. To keep suggesting that is a grand rationalization on your part.

Try blaming HRC'S bumbling idiot campaign staff whose critical errors are noted for all.

Had they not gone into the primaries with this ENTITLEMENT attitude that it was over before it began - she probably WOULD have prevailed.

LAY BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS!

Don't stay in denial too long - it's unhealty!!

Wrong True Blue. HRC supporters blame BO supporters. It goes back and forth. The thing with BO supporters is we don't start this, it starts from HRC supporters and we BO supporters dispute the lies. As for McCain he has nothing to thank anybody for except for allowing him to go sit on the lake with a fishing pole and chill because that is what he will be doing after Nov.

Excellent post!!

Thanks for sharing your story-- I think it is similar to many people out there... Obama is the first candidate that I have been actively campaigning for.

For those HRC supporters who really believe in what she stands for-- will support Obama-- It may be that they plug their noses when they vote-- and do what I have done the last few elections-- vote for the lesser of two evils but if they really believe in what HRC stands for they will vote Democrat this election!!

Thanks, g.

NOT!!! I'm not the one trying to "PREDICT" the future. If I recall correctly, I believe it was YOU who stated, the DEMS can't win! That places YOU in the position of trying to be a seer.

I, on the other hand, have no idea on what will REALLY happen in November. I can only say what I WISH will happen, and coupled with the fact that McBush has a somwhat harder row to hoe than Obama.
