At least we can appreciate that, overall, most of the Democrats vote for measures that help average Americans rather than dwelling, like most Republicans, on side issues that are of no consequence for the betterment of our country's citizens.

I think this bill was just intended to chip away at private health care and get more middle class people and adults used to having gov't provide their health care.
If it is important enough, let the states handle it! This is not a federal gov't issue to be "handled", and I'm relieved it was defeated.

Health care in this country is generally great right now. It's high quality and available. How we approach paying for it is what has turned to shit! We are being trained slowly yet methodically by the left to take no personal responsibility for anything. The gov't will provide everything you need. (Queue haunting music) The federal gov't has never been known for doing anything efficiently and now you want it to take care of your health? And look at how they already tell you what you can eat and smoke and put into your body. This way of thinking is leading us down a sad path where we all become pathetic mindless slaves to the machine.....OK, that was a little dramatic, but I hope you can follow where I'm trying to go with this.
It sounds good on the surface - free health care paid for by the Uncle Sam. But where does Uncle Sam get that money? Taxes. How about he just leaves that money in your pocket and YOU can decide how to spend it. Gov't can do things like encourage Health Savings Accounts and incentivize us to do what WE think is in our and our family's best interest. Why would you want to allow someone else to make those decisions? Don't you love your freedom and liberty?
We have already been taking care of poor children. This bill would have expanded far beyond that into the realm of taking care of those who should be able to and have a responsibility to take care of themselves. Please don't abdicate your power.
The only tax would have been the tax on cigarettes. The Republican proposal removes the tax on cigarettes (they get tobacco money as campaign contributions), but it is not clear to me how the GOP proposal is funded.

Where would Hillary's $110 billion come from?
Regardless of all this, it's unconstitutional. The federal gov't does not exist to provide health care.
