least happy that my congressman, Anthony D. Weiner (D-NY 9), voted to override this veto as did all but two Democrats who voted "no" and two Democrats who didn't vote on this at all.

At least we can appreciate that, overall, most of the Democrats vote for measures that help average Americans rather than dwelling, like most Republicans, on side issues that are of no consequence for the betterment of our country's citizens.

EXACTLY Shopman-- As long as they are in the womb the need to be protected but once they are children who cares... If these republicans are so called pro live== they need to be ashamed of themselves-- I worked with woman who were making that choice-- being able to financially care for and bring up a child played HUGE into their decision...

Good, good, good!!!

Sheesh! Children were already getting taxpayer funded health care. This bill would have extended the age to 25 and raised the income eligibility level to something like 80 some thousand dollars! You are not a child at 23, firstly, and secondly, you are not poor if you're pulling in 80k per year!

I think this bill was just intended to chip away at private health care and get more middle class people and adults used to having gov't provide their health care.

If it is important enough, let the states handle it! This is not a federal gov't issue to be "handled", and I'm relieved it was defeated.

Of course it's an issue to be addressed by the federal government! Our health care system is shit right now, and the only way to get it back on track is to have a government-mandated system that makes sure that everybody can be taken care of.

Well my electric bill was high last month! And dang it if I didn't have to just spend a bunch on money on gasoline to get home from work! Where's my relief? Why aren't food and electricity and gas rights? I need them, and I want everyone else to pay for them!

Health care in this country is generally great right now. It's high quality and available. How we approach paying for it is what has turned to shit! We are being trained slowly yet methodically by the left to take no personal responsibility for anything. The gov't will provide everything you need. (Queue haunting music) The federal gov't has never been known for doing anything efficiently and now you want it to take care of your health? And look at how they already tell you what you can eat and smoke and put into your body. This way of thinking is leading us down a sad path where we all become pathetic mindless slaves to the machine.....OK, that was a little dramatic, but I hope you can follow where I'm trying to go with this.

It sounds good on the surface - free health care paid for by the Uncle Sam. But where does Uncle Sam get that money? Taxes. How about he just leaves that money in your pocket and YOU can decide how to spend it. Gov't can do things like encourage Health Savings Accounts and incentivize us to do what WE think is in our and our family's best interest. Why would you want to allow someone else to make those decisions? Don't you love your freedom and liberty?

We have already been taking care of poor children. This bill would have expanded far beyond that into the realm of taking care of those who should be able to and have a responsibility to take care of themselves. Please don't abdicate your power.
Only cigarette tax! Tobbacco lobby

The only tax would have been the tax on cigarettes. The Republican proposal removes the tax on cigarettes (they get tobacco money as campaign contributions), but it is not clear to me how the GOP proposal is funded.

So do the Dems get tobacco money. It would be great if we could dial gov't health care back even more than just vetoing this bill. I'm excited to hear that you might be in favor of that as you sound concerned about where the money will come from.

Where would Hillary's $110 billion come from?

Regardless of all this, it's unconstitutional. The federal gov't does not exist to provide health care.
