PB Messaging (updated 3x)
Bad? Brilliant?

Anybody know when PB messages stopped working? I found out about this much later than normally because usually people send me messages through PB when there's a problem.

Obviously, due to the nature of this issue, I only found out about it when I stumbled across it on the blog. Nobody could message me to let me know.

We'll try to get this taken care of as soon as possible. In the meantime, can anybody help them figure out what went wrong by letting me know when this first started happening?

UPDATE 3: Obvoiusly, it's still not fixed. When it is, I'll be sure to announce it.

I can.

Give me a second.
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 3:45 pm EDT
Exactly, it happened on 6/26 sometime after 1:16 AM. I know because I was trying to reply to a message at that time. Also the group email server has been puking for the past month or so.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 3:49 pm EDT
LOL!!!! I just went back to my dashboard to check the time....and I got another 'operation aborted' failure message, then a blank page. (((sigh))) The computer gods are not happy campers.
Re: I can.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 3:57 pm EDT
Did this also start happening at the same time messages went down? (The afternoon/evening of 6/26)

It could be related to the same code push. And if so, that'd be helpful to determine.
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 4:03 pm EDT
Are you using the FreeBSD 6.2 server to handle DB requests from the Web Server (Ubuntu 7.04). There are some code issues between these versions, and that may be the problem. I haven't noticed the problems with the dashboard in Firefox 3.0 at all, but I know IE formats requests differently.
Re: I can.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 4:14 pm EDT
I'll pass along the message. I'm actually not in the tech dept. Thanks.
Re: I can.
By marsha Jul 1st 2008 at 5:00 pm EDT
I have safari 1.3
could that be why I have had trouble so long?
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 5:20 pm EDT
Safari uses a separate core than both IE and Firefox. If you are having an issue, you should send an error to Apple. Firefox works well on Macs too.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:12 pm EDT
Yep ....about the same time.
Re: I can.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 4:23 pm EDT
FOR THOSE GETTING THE IE ERROR: What version of IE are you running? Thanks.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:26 pm EDT
oh, lord...tech questions? I KNOW NOTHING! Hubby works for MS and installs everything for me....I know I'm using Vista and MSN as main internet explorer. Does that help?
Re: I can.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 4:27 pm EDT
If you, while in IE, go to "Help-->About Internet Explorer"... you should see a version number like 5.5, 6.0, or 7.0.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:32 pm EDT
:) To be exact....

Windows Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16681
Re: I can.
By Arius Jul 1st 2008 at 4:34 pm EDT
Now I have to ask: why are you using IE?
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:38 pm EDT
Dayem! My computer is totally controlled by the MS cult....lord knows what's installed.... I even have to sneak using Google so hubby doesn't catch me consorting with the enemy....
Re: I can.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 7:10 pm EDT
Instead of google, soon you'll be able to use powerset without feeling guilty.

In additon to the 'IE cannot display this page' SOMETIMES, a little box pops up that says the page has to be closed...and ithe DNC site closes. This is not all the time.

A quick fix would be to switch to Firefox. Your choice, but here is a link.

for us or the DNC IT?
Re: I can.

Re: I can.
By Lincoln Park Dem is fired up and ready to go! Jul 1st 2008 at 4:48 pm EDT
will it mess up Vista?
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 4:49 pm EDT
No. It works fine.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:49 pm EDT
So no one using Firefox is having the dashboard errors? ARIUS, are you using Firefox, too?
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 4:50 pm EDT
I haven't had any problems. I use Firefox.
Re: I can.
By Lincoln Park Dem is fired up and ready to go! Jul 1st 2008 at 4:47 pm EDT
I have Vista up it messes up constanlty to the point I can't do any winodws updates or my printers and such no longer work. Even had replace a CD drive from an update. Vista sucks!
Re: I can.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 4:49 pm EDT
Yep. I don't use windows. Linux purest. Firefox works well on Vista though. As well as anything works on Vista anyway.
Re: I can.
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 4:50 pm EDT
:) Vista works fine at our house....after some tweaks in the beginning.
Re: I can.
By Letitrip Jul 2nd 2008 at 1:31 pm EDT
I have Firefox, it's awesome, but I just recently started having problems at PB too.

And Firefox IS compatible with Vista. Mozilla Thunderbird is good for emails (same people). I'm impressed with both Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird.

about two weeks?
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 3:43 pm EDT
Remember when we were all complaining about the blank page *after* sending a message? Well, then it started with a blank page just clicking on 'compose.' But that's only when you're lucky enough to actually be able to load your dashboard.
Re: about two weeks?
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 3:44 pm EDT
P.S. A group email just went through!! Woo-hoo!

The blank page after sending a message issue is something I already had the time for, but thanks. I appreciate everyone's help.

By SPIRITED DONA Jul 1st 2008 at 3:47 pm EDT
i honestly believe it was a few daysbefore unity nh day. check calendar. i am trying to prevent unnecessary harshness by explaining the rumor is not true one person shut it down. little dine, who is 14, asked about a history project, that although, he is american indian and jewish looked antisemtic. he did not blog it, but someone else did this as a blog. the rumor has been a confused 14 year old crashed the blog. thank you for setting us straight!

Everyone.

Please give this 5 stars so it doesn't disappear.

The last one I got
By Maggie B. Jul 1st 2008 at 3:50 pm EDT
was on ^-25-08 and I usually get them all the time from other supporters.

Well
By Lincoln Park Dem is fired up and ready to go! Jul 1st 2008 at 3:50 pm EDT
The problem is actually more then messaging. Sometimes, not all the time, when I go into my dashboard..it says, "Internet explorer cannot open this site" and then I get an error and the whoel DNC site closes. That's what is happening to me in addition to PM's being down.
Re: Well
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 3:53 pm EDT
Wow.

Is this IE issue widespread?
Re: Well
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 3:57 pm EDT
Did this also start happening at the same time messages went down? (The afternoon/evening of 6/26)
Re: Well
By Lincoln Park Dem is fired up and ready to go! Jul 1st 2008 at 4:30 pm EDT
this problem started for me a few days after the PM stopped working.
Re: Well
By Gretchen Jul 1st 2008 at 3:58 pm EDT
That has happened several times for me also--BUT then when the site comes back I have found that everyone has had the same problem... Maybe a troll attack???? smile
Re: Well
By highserenity Jul 1st 2008 at 4:06 pm EDT
What happens to Lincoln has also been happening to me, ----ie the whole thing shuts down and I can't get back on this site at all------
just says site unavailable at this time
Re: Well
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 4:08 pm EDT
A few times the site has gone down altogether. I can remember two outages.
Re: Well
By SPIRITED DONA Jul 1st 2008 at 4:20 pm EDT
that is correct, lincon park! also, i could not get my profile page to stay. it said internet explorer can't open page, in a small grey square. i did get friend requests this week. hmm.

By the way.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 3:54 pm EDT
I think the email server problem is probably a conflict between the Ubuntu Server 2.6.20 web server and the FreeBSD 6.2 mail server. I have dealt with these problems myself before.

mike....
By marsha Jul 1st 2008 at 4:56 pm EDT
I think I ... along with others... may have been the canary in the coalmine... My problems started in April on the Obama site and here shortly after.. I think.
Started with my dashboard links and buttons not working.
peace,
marsha

My last PM
By charctine Jul 1st 2008 at 5:00 pm EDT
was on 6/26 from Jack saying that his PM's are all going to his old account, and he cannot access them.

BTW
By Arius Jul 1st 2008 at 5:13 pm EDT
Friending doesn't work either. Same problem. I didn't notice until a couple of days ago, but I would bet there's a connection to the pm problem.
Re: BTW
By Blueberry Jul 1st 2008 at 5:16 pm EDT
I was *just* able to send and accept friend invites today....haven't been able to for awhile.

Your Javascript is screwed up.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 6:06 pm EDT
I have just been looking through this source, and you are assigning a message id without linking to the composing script. It is working properly, there is just no form being loaded. My guess is someone changed a class name when updating, without changing the name of a called method in the original class.
Re: Your Javascript is screwed up.
By Michael Link Jul 1st 2008 at 6:10 pm EDT
I'll pass that along.
Re: Your Javascript is screwed up.
By Mikey Jul 1st 2008 at 6:16 pm EDT
Specifically the form /page/socialnet/message is missing. Your java is calling an specific ID, though the code says the /page/socialnet/message should be the location of the form used. It does not exist for some reason.
Re: Your Javascript is screwed up.
By Letitrip Jul 2nd 2008 at 1:38 pm EDT
Sounds like a worm that changes the registry, maybe you should back it up, go to safe mode and fix registry and Java, restore it to earlier time? I'm only guessing, I'm no computer geek. I'm about to throw mine in the river out back.

And this was what FOS posted immediately afterward referring to this issue and to my post. I find it appalling. And I've seen the censorship ability she's requesting be provided to delete comment she doesn't want and her constant accusation of troll to be a serious cause for concern.

Especially when it is paired with an obvious attempt to disregard the open and heinous anti-semitism that is being thrown around. Please address the harassment the Obama supporters are constantly using to shut the discussions of Non-Obama supporting Dems. This small cabal of bullies has already driven so many away from the party. If they don't stop we will all just leave permanently for PUMA.
