Who can organize this?

So instead of going after the "supply" of double-posts, it makes sense to target the "demand" by making sure that posts people write don't get lost in the crowd. One way to do that, which I suggested in my last post, was to organize a PB Rescue feature here that the community puts together -- say, once or twice a day.

This post is dedicated to finding people who can actually make it happen.

Ideally, although this won't be up to me, there would be a category, followed by a few posts on that topic for that day. Example:

Economy
Diary title/link - Description
Diary title/link - Description
Diary title/link - Description

The War
Diary title/link - Description
Diary title/link - Description

Etc.

Somebody that is trusted by supporters of both candidates would be in charge of it. People could PM their posts throughout the day to this person (or persons) to help them out.

However, more important than it actually being in the post itself, anybody could post what they've written that day in the comments of the post itself. So if something you wrote doesn't get included, don't worry. You can just link to it yourself in the comments, hopefully with a short description.

So there are questions:

(1) Who would be a good editor? I can say, for sure, that I would not. As a DNC staffer, it'd be very difficult for me to do this and not be accused of being biased in some fashion.

(2) How often? My suggestion is once a day. Maybe twice.

(3) What time? Afternoon/evening? This might also depend on who is the editor.

(4) And obviously, would people be willing to recommend it so that everybody would be able to find it easily each day?

Hopefully, if this was implemented, there'd be no need to repost anymore. In addition, people would be able to find good posts even easier. And people could promote their own work.

Seems like a win-win-win. But I'm leaving this to all of you. If you think it's worth organizing, have at it! If not, no problem.

I don't agree

I don't think I would trust anyone on this site to keep tract of "good Posts"....some of the posts I see ranked high are ludicious.
I agree with Jackie....we should be able to repost, and most on this site do go back and look at what has been posted.

A couple possible suggestions...

There could be a Sen. Clinton rescue post and also a different Sen. Obama rescue post. With different editors. As long as there wasn't more than one a day, I don't think that'd be too repetitive.

A third one could just not include posts about the Democratic candidates.

Just ideas... Again, if not, no problem.

I was going to make that suggestion - I think I did on your other post. Different editors for different topics.

EVERY ONE ON HERE...

HAS AN OPINION...but only those who can control it think it is good idea and will promote it.

ME ME ME ME, WHATS IN IT FOR ME...well wake up citizens...take responsibility to organize your own back yard before you go organizing others.

Unfortunately...

You may have a hard time getting each side to leave the decision up to one person. I can easily think of 2 people, one from each side. Perhaps a cross check method between a representative from each side. I like your idea, but as with most good ideas, thought is one thing, implementation is another.

Don't worry
By Shopman Apr 29th 2008 at 12:39 pm EDT
But thanks for caring.

It is what it is. Considering the way our primary has gone so far, it was probably inevitable that PB would morph into chaos.

Honestly, the double posting doesn't bother me that much, actually nothing does that I have no control of...It's my choice to participate or not.

The thing that does bother me is the hate speech, from both camps. It's difficult for me to believe that that some people actually believe what they parrot...but, this too comes with the territory.

This is private property and I think you show great judgment overall...it must be very difficult at times but you have demonstrated that you are up to the task.

Personally, I accept what I can't change and try to change what I can't accept.

It is what it is...people can either like it or lump it. There is a third option which many folk choose, WHINE. Who cares about them anyway?

You're doing great! Who can herd cats!?

rabbit cats? Is that legal?
Re: Don't worry
By Bill Dickson Apr 29th 2008 at 1:13 pm EDT
No, it's a capital crime to breed rabbit cats, but thankfully we are on dealing with rabid cats which, though bothersome (especially if they bite you) are legal.

"only dealing"

Typos are a pain, but getting the extra points for fixing them helps ease the pain.

My Suggestion
By ... Apr 29th 2008 at 1:48 pm EDT
It seems that the two variables that would be most critical would be the perception of bias in posting.

Another post recommended a team consisting of two members: one pro-Obama and another pro-Clinton, jointly administering the non-candidate related posts.

I think that the people who would be a part of this due would have to be elected to this post, not selected.

Perhaps as another blogger posted a vote by participation. Everyone nominate someone for each side. Winer takes all!

I'd be willing to be on a committee to address this situation.

I would not mind doing it

I may come back then. I would not mind because I feel it is important to have all the views out there and it does need organized.

are we proposing nominations?
By D. Tree Apr 30th 2008 at 6:15 pm EDT
I'd nominate Shopman, AnneK, Arius, or Moses as some of the most unbiased posters.

I drank the kool-aide and don't think I would be a good rep until the nomination is confirmed.

;-)
Re: are we proposing nominations?
By AnneK Apr 30th 2008 at 7:31 pm EDT
I've got time.

Arius is relatively unbiased, and always fair.
Karstar's also relatively unbiased and always fair.

Annie and True Blue are both biased toward Clinton, HOWEVER, they would both make excellent editors, and I would trust either of them to be fair if they agreed to accept the responsibility.

Shopman's a bit Obamabiased, but again, would be great if he agreed to accept the responsibility.

I suppose it comes down to having someone who will agree to try their best.

NEW idea?
By D. Tree Apr 30th 2008 at 6:25 pm EDT
Hey Mike,

Here's another thought I just had: would it make sense to try and use the "groups" feature to organize this?

A new "diary rescue" group could be formed, and a group of moderators could be elected/appointed.

Then, everyone could send nominations for "best post of the day" in each category via PM to the moderators.

The moderators could then contact the original poster and ask them to re-publish their posts to the group.

The moderators could take turns posting diary summaries every day.

Just a thought... maybe needs some tweaking, but maybe some potential there??
Re: NEW idea?
By AnneK Apr 30th 2008 at 7:19 pm EDT
With the exception of the VERY carefully moderated groups, I don't think that feature of PB is being used the way you and I hoped it would.

I don't know if it's been suggested.
By Democrat in New York, NY Apr 30th 2008 at 6:38 pm EDT
What about having 10 or 12 posts rather than just 5 on the front page at least for right now? I prefer adding to the number of new posts going on at the time I am there to participate. I think that makes more sense rather than saving posts.

Different Topic Editors...

Other (news like sports, deaths, personal, etc.):

Maybe we should have primary and alternates. Or morning and night shifts.

what is disappointing
By SPIRITED DONA May 1st 2008 at 12:12 pm EDT
a. if you have a good post in the morning-- the evening readers miss it, and vice versa. b. if you save a post to publish; this feature does not work, as the blog records the time, you opened the hotmail editor and "saved " it. hence, you are "never" on the "last" 5 posts. you are nobody, no where. thank you for your blog, micheal link! rating 5.

let's keep looking for solutions!

i have a question
By SPIRITED DONA May 1st 2008 at 12:31 pm EDT
i trust, myself, because, i am on team hillary, and i have asked for a truce on one subject. my soap opera, "Democrat's Hope" is for team hillary plus team barack! i can be fair, BUT all my friends and frenemies would hate me, if i played editor-in-chief!

i have the solution. we need a page called, "THE SECOND TIME AROUND". you repost yourself, or others, and if it is not good enough to be posted twice, you get a chuckle, at your fellow bloggers little repost. there are a few stories of others, i would love to see actually see the light of day! i would like to repost my soap, "Democrat's Hope", as both team hillary and team barack loved it! it is written for both sides! the only thing we have agreed on here! lol!
