Our country's obsession with recession; True or False?
Bad? Brilliant?

The recession is upon us and it hangs from our shoulders like a bad suit. Over half the population have been tightening their belts, while we pay more at the pump and at the grocery store, lay offs loom making a hot summer longer. Companies such as Siemans and Sun Microsystems are cutting back this July... Siemans alone will be releasing over 7,000 employees. As W spouted several months back; "It's not important what you call it. It's just a rough economic patch." Well it may be rough for me but economically I really don't think W can relate cause it's certainly not rough for him or his cronies. So what can we do to tough this out? Spend more and stimulate? I'd like too but I can't afford it. Perhaps we should spend less and save. Do we look ourselves in the bunker or just act a little more carefuly? Perhaps the economic indicators will cut us a break just this one time...Then again perhaps not. What do you the reader think? Got any good solutions? Maybe the answer is to work two or three jobs. That would really suck.

Since his famliy made thier money in oil, and the cost of gas has more than doubled since he's been in office? He has his own agenda, and it isn't the economy. This recession/depression isn't hurting him.

Some communities

are already beyond recession and into the morass of Depression. I'm afraid, my friend, that we shall have to rely on family and friends, join food co-ops and somehow get through it until we reclaim the government in January 2009. We may not see improvement until 2010.

Ask me, "How is your garden growing up there in Alaska?"

Hey Letitrip, how is your growing up there in Alaska? One of my nephews lives in Palmer, where the giant veggies are grown.

I have a relative there too! We have lots in common Clark! Do you know Corey Rossi (works for government securing airspace for all Alaskan airports) and tests birds for virus's? He's an awesome creature.

Everything is dormant. It's been cloudy for MONTHS...try 3 YEARS of clouds! Constantly raining, the glacier is 25% smaller...depressing.

I was trying to save energy and money by growing a garden, but since the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll be living on cat food.

No, I don't know Corey Rossi. My nephew is a prosecutor, works for the D.A.'s office in Palmer. His Dad works for American Airlines.

Recession.depression

Today, they are trying to say the rebate stimulus checks are helping the economy. I guess they might to a degree. Everybody I know is either saving them,or buying oil for heat for winter. This may be a recession according to economists ,but I think it's a depression. It's depressing to everyday hear the price of gas is going up, the cost of groceries is going up, the strength of the dollar is going down, and with inflation,if you have any money to save, it's a hard call, because the prices keep going up. For those who have 401(k)s or others who own stocks, their retirement is in shambles, and the gov't has said they will cut the amount they payout on medicare. On the last point, you may feel, the drs. can afford it, but some dr.s may elect to stop taking medicare patients. Also, earlier this year, the supreme court ruled that employers are no longer required to keep health coverage for retirees equal to workers- because they have medicare. Another health cost issue. It seems ,there is no way to plan ahead. If you happen to go to the mall, you may see the mallwalkers, but there are very few customers. Now if you walk in a store, where you could never find someone to help, there are sales associates at every aisle. I know some small store owners though and they aren't getting any business from the rebates. I think it's going to gas, food or medicine.
I live in an area where there is no public transportation, last night, I mentioned to a friend, if he would build a stable, we might have to go back to riding horses.I know that horses aren't cheap either, but options are few.

No one is saying the stimulus checks would help the economy, matter of fact, they said it would do the opposite BEFORE they printed them. The money was to assist the people in offsetting the gas prices, all it did was fill the pockets of oil or food producers.

Spend MORE!
By Letitrip Jun 30th 2008 at 6:11 pm EDT
You gottah be crazy even asking that? It only lines the pockets of business...they are the squad running our country and our democracy...you gottah be kidding?

We shouldn't be servants to business, so that means keep one job. VOTE people out that are OIL drenched people...that's been the problem, we have an OIL PRESIDENT, what you expect? He went to a country to overthrown a place that has oil thru phony war and we've failed to exercise impeachment for this offense...shame on us! We deserve every penny we pay for: gas, food, housing; and lack of: security and privacy. We deserve it, we're just as much at fault for not overthrowing this shit.
