I Hope...

...that managing, leading and tasking A HUGE rush of volunteers becomes my challenge! Beibg organized and having a fluid, flexible structure will make this a manageable reality.

I think that finding those intial voluteers RIGHT NOW, who are will to step into the leadership roles, esspecially as Section Leaders, will be my actual challenge. With this I will continue to provide a presence and a struture to allow folks to join in easily, if they contact us; and to continue to reach out to previous volunteers who have helped in the past to get them re-energized and involved again in this campaign cycle.

I think that delegation will also be key in handling the rush of volunteers that WILL come on election day. You have to have people you trust who are trained in what to do. The sooner those individuals get on board and trained - the easier the rush of people will become. No matter what happens 6:30-7PM on election day will be absolutely out of control as we try to bring every last vote out to the polls.

Time

I'll be challenged to manage my time well. I have calendars to help.

I have a candidate I am just wild about supporting in a leadership role (see http://RENObama.com ) and I am very enthused to work with the caucus and the Dem process in Washoe County as well. I do think I can do both and do both effectively, plus volunteer at the Dem HQ, but it will take a lot of time management on my part.

So I keep my computer calendar with me at all times (glad HQ is wi-fied) and count on that to tell me which hat I am wearing.

The real challenge here is keeping the jobs seperate - go full force for your candidate when that is what you are doing and then be impartial as your team recruits volunteers and organizes. The party is looking for ways to incorporate the campaigns into the grassroots structure - anyone have any ideas on how to do that?

I, too, am concerned about the time issue. Once the school year is over, I can devote more time to organizing my section. More importantly, I need to devise a method to organize my own operation. Any ideas from others? I haven't taken the time to put all the information pieces in one easy to find place. I also need to get on the VAN to start my search for volunteers. What I really need is a volunteer to search the VAN for/with me to get things rolling. AD 32 is split geographically. I want to find one person in the North Valley/Cold Springs area so we can get going on our mission. My brief search in the VAN didn't find anyone who had been active I might tap.
