I got this e-mail from an aquaintance in Alaska last week, but did not post it because I wasn't sure about its accuracy.

Palin signed a bill allowing Trans-Canada the license to build the Alaskan portion of a future pipeline, most of which goes thru Canada and ends in Chicago. Trans-Canada (thru a subsidiary) has been working on this project since 1976. I worked on it while employed 20 years for a company in Houston called Texas Eastern Transmission.

Trans-Canada has yet to line up the suppliers (aka big oil who own the Prudhoe Bay nat gas) Even if everything goes well(meaning prices stay high enough) the natural gas would not flow into lower 48 until 2020.

But Sarah didn't tell you that in her speech. I hope I live long enough to see completed a project that Sarah Palin is already taking credit for.

and now I have this article that says the same thing

more on this pipeline

During the RNC convention some of the comments from Republicans interviewed included comments about how the pipeline was the friend to the Caribou who would nestle up to it in the winter time to keep warm.

These same people neglected to mention the downside for the Caribou and there are many including the fact that the pipeline cuts off Caribou access to some of their feeding grounds.

another issue with the pipeline is the seismic activity in Alaska.

Imagine an oil spill due to an earthquake breaking open the pipeline.

Is it worth the risk for the pay off compared to developing clean alternative energy sources?

I don't think so. I for one am fed up with the Rich Republican cowboy risks that they take with our nation so they can make a buck for the oil companies.

it is time to end fossil fuel dependence.
