The World Can't Wait -- but I can wait for this group

I just got back from attending one of the World Can't Wait organizing meetings being held around the country tonight. I went with another woman I've been working on Nancy Skinner's campaign with -- I wasn't going to go, but when I told her about it, she wanted to go, so we went. I would have much rather stayed home and watched Countdown, as it turned out.
They're starting to organize a national protest event for October 5 -- they want people to not go to work or school and attend various protests around the country to protest the Bush regime, the war, etc. In theory, I think this is a good idea. More people do need to make their voices heard.
However, my friend and I were turned off immediately when the first speaker started bashing the Democratic party and saying they're as bad as the Republicans. Luckily there were a few other people there who also spoke up and agreed with us.
We tried to make the point that people protesting in the streets alone isn't going to make Bush just up and leave. We need to go through the democratic process of impeachment -- that's the only way we can really get rid of these guys. And the only way that's going to happen is to elect as many Democrats as we can.
Again, I think protesting in the streets is a good idea, but I think they're going about it the wrong way. I also think that expecting people to take a day off of work in this economy is wrong. They'd be much more successful if they held these protests on a weekend -- we got hundreds of thousands to DC last September and to NY in April -- ON WEEKENDS!!!! People aren't going to jeopardize their jobs to protest.
Granted, this group has a number of great endorsements, such as John Conyers, Martin Sheen, Gore Vidal and others, but the people they have representing them are way off base. Someone even called John Murtha a warmonger. I think they have no idea what they're talking about in many cases.
Again, I support their basic premise -- get rid of the Bush regime and end the war and provide a venue for people to voice their feelings -- but they lost me tonight. Most, not all, of the people there were way too far on the radical left for me and had no interest in electing and working with the Democrats to achieve their goals.

Peaceful noncooperation on the order of what Gandhi did will bring this criminal adminstration down that committed its forst criminal act when it stole the 2000 election.
Consider this a referendum on the combined impeachment, conviction, resignation of George W Bush and Richard Cheney.
Pass this text to the ends of the country east, west, north and south.
Resolved that we call for the resignation of George W bush and Richard Cheney for:
1. Starting an invasion of a country based upon lies and that did not attack ours.
2. Wiretapping of people within the United States without obtaining warrants for such wiretaps.
If you do not consent to this call for the resignation simply do nothing.
If you do consent to the call for resignation of George W Bush and Richard B Cheney based upon the two charges listed above.
Call each of Rush Limbaugh's sponsors. Demand they get Bush and Cheney to resign and until they resign you will not ever buy their products again until they accomplish the demand. Spread the word. This referendum shall stand or fall based upon the merits and each citizen will decide. Please spread this text throughout the net and post in libraries, town meeting, supermarkets, everywhere in the United States of America.
