It is clear who their "base" is activated by. They don't respect or even like McCain. Their convention will always be known as Palin's Convention.

If their delegates had voted on: Who would you rather have at the top of your ticket?...they would have picked Palin.
McCain fell flat last night, but she hit it out of the park?

She is the epitome of what conservatives want in their President. Pure ideology that is on the attack 24-7. No other qualifications necessary.

She is a skillful politician who can deliver the most slimey absurd talking points with a smile. What more could a true American patriot want, right?

To conservatives, it IS the Palin-McCain ticket.
