SAINT PAUL [2/19/08] - The UAW Minnesota State CAP Council announced today that they support U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken in the race to defeat Senator Norm Coleman. UAW represents 3,500 active members and 4,000 retirees across the state.

Bob Killeen, Secretary Treasurer UAW Minnesota State CAP (Community Action Program) Council, released the following statement:

"We recognize Al's commitment to workers in the manufacturing industry and retaining manufacturing jobs. We're committed to working with him to beat Norm Coleman and George Bush and their policies that attack workers and working families."

Al said:

"I'm thrilled to join forces with UAW in fighting for our auto industry, our manufacturing base, and the working men and women of Minnesota. There's no reason America can't regain its competitive edge in auto manufacturing if we take advantage of new technologies and the skill and dedication of our workforce. I'll work hard in Washington to create and protect union jobs, help our economy grow its way out of the Republican Recession, and make sure that Minnesota families reap the benefits."

It might have been nice a little sooner though.

I am a proud supporter of the Honorable Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Think he's got a battle on his hands? Didn't Mondale (former Vp)run a few years back?

I think Mondale ran for Wellstone's seat after he died.

I like Mondale, he's pry too old now, but I think he'd be alright for a house seat.

Because:
He's good enough.
He's smart enough.
And doggone it, we like him.

Unions are good for the country and great for the middle class.

Congratulations, Al!

Spirited Dona says-- Congratulations, Al! A union's union! I supported the writers' strike and unions, as many, did not understand that the big whigs were actually asking for millions of dollars of work for free on the internet, which will be called Digital Media, forever free. Hours and days of writing work for free. Episodes perpetually having millions of viewers for free forever, as writers try to put their kids through school and pay off housing, etc, etc. I hope to be in Digital Media in a creative and payday payoff! I, however, am hoping to find sponsors, since I on my own. I couldn't ask others to work in Digital Media for free, when I hope for some success! I wish Al, his UAW supporters, and those who had so much worry during the strike, well. I support Hillary in sunshine and thunderstorm.

The Only

The only thing better than the UAW support? Why Spirited Dona's support!

That is great.

Al Franken, Bill Mahr, Steven Colbert all could have my support.
Seriously, Al would be wonderful.

Al Franken breaks the law
By Democrat in Missoula, MT Mar 4th 2008 at 9:42 pm EST
Al Franken, who has scored an impressive series of union endorsements in his campaign for the Senate, probably didn't mention a little issue he had going on while he was still living and working and enjoying his life as a New York resident. Of course, mentioning this problem while screening with Minnesota's labor unions probably wasn't a good strategy for Team Franken.

That is, the $25,000 judgment against him for absolutely, positively refusing to pay workers compensation insurance.

According to public court documents, the State of New York Workers' Compensation Board filed a $25,000 judgment in the Supreme Court of the State of New York against Alan Franken Inc, for "Failure to Carry Workers' Comp Ins 6/29/2002-03/28/2005."

Public records from the state of New York, list Al Franken as "Chairman or Chief Executive Officer" of Alan Franken Inc.

The $25,000 judgment filed against Alan Franken Inc., was filed on May 29, 2007 - over four months after Franken announced he was running for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota.

Franken had time to resolve this matter before the judgement was filed, as on August 8, 2006, Alan Franken Inc was issued a "Final Notice" from the State of New York Workers' Compensation Board for "Failure to Carry Workers' Comp Ins 6/29/2002-03/28/2005." Public records indicate that no payment was made.
