Props to one of my favorite politicians, Ms. Katherine Harris

Rasmussen today released a poll of the Florida senate race. The poll has Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) trouncing Representative Katherine Harris (R-FL-13). Nelson polled at 57% while Harris, who enjoys strong name recognition from the 2000 election debacle, only managed to poll at 34%. While this is in and of itself great news because it makes what could have been a more vulnerable incumbent safe, it also demonstrates the problems that have been plauging the GOP this election cycle. First off, they can't field good candidates, which is good for us. Secondly, the disaffected base is not energized about this election. Harris only managed to pull in 60% of the Republican vote in the poll. While Harris is obviously a somewhat unique example, we can hope that a similar trend is occurring nationwide, with many Republicans feeling betrayed and upset with the Administration and Congressional Republicans. Also, the completely uncompetitive Senate race might mean a depressed Republican turnout which could affect the race for Governor which is becoming quite tight. Also, conventional wisdom is that Harris will actually inspire a greater Democratic turnout because of the disdain many Democrats feel for her for her role in the 2000 recount debacle. Good news all around!
