John Edwards: Grand Opportunist

One time Presidential hopeful, then Vice Presidential hopeful, then Presidential Hopeful, and perhaps once again Vice Presidential hopeful or "I'll take what I can get, let me fix my hair", John Edwards shows the true value of his word when he endorsed Barack Obama a week after stating he would not endorse either candidate until after the end of the Primaries. Obviously, Mr. Edward's hopes for a prime position in the Obama government shook when Mrs. Clinton trounced Barack Obama in West Virginia.
Why would a man who proposed a universal healthcare package support a candidate who's healthcare package was not universal? Clearly, because Mr. Edwards has been negotiating with Mr. Obama for months vying for a prime spot on the ticket. When Mr. Edwards saw all his planning and jockying threatened, he spoke up, not to endorse Mr. Obama, but to ensure his political aspirations come to fruition.
Mr. Edwards left me passionless during his many bids for the Executive Office. Now his recent opportunism has turned my bland taste for him sour. What is a good woman like Elizabeth Edwards doing with an Obsequious Igor like John Edwards? If Obama were half the messiah people make him out to be he would hold Edwards to his word- No endorsement until after the voters have made their decision.

Only 11 copies of the same message? ;^)

I was wondering when people would start attacking John Edwards. But its not that hard to understand why he endorsed Obama.

Edwards and Obama's campaigns shared more in common with each other than with Clintons in that both candidates refused to allow PAC's and Washington Lobbyists contribute to their campaigns - while Clinton has accepted the most money from Lobbyists, more than almost anyone else in congress.

This similarity in resisting the influence of deep-pocket special interests makes Edwards endorsement look sensible.

If you notice, Edwards' health plan was also not the same as Mrs. Clinton's, her plan doesn't reform the insurance industry and give too much trust in the very industry that is causing our health care problems - seeing as she accepted bags of money from lobbyists who represent this industry, and seeing at Edwards is a former trial lawyer who fought against these interests, the endorsement makes even more sense.

who knows?

Perhaps Obama has made a deal to add Edwards idea for the establishment of regional healthcare markets that include at least one nonprofit healthcare insurer per region.

That is the one outstanding difference between Hillary Clintons "universal" plan and Edwards and it is a HUGE difference that few talk about.

But I would not label Edwards as an opportunist. He is dedicated to the poor and his actions support his words. There is nothing fake about that. Edwards is extremely wealthy too with an estimated personal wealth of $84 million. And unlike either McCain or Clinton, John Edwards knows first hand the meaning of being white an poor in the USA.

Gracias,
Apologies for the repeated postings. The website kept stating that there was an error and that the post was not published and to try again later when I attempted to 'publish'. Obviously, I frustratingly tried again about 12 times. For some reason, The Democratic Party website was lying to me. I have corrected the multiple posts.

No problem - the website has been a bit unstable at times for all of us.

That doesn't bode well for our party. Should we splinter off?

If he would have endorsed Clinton, people would be singing his praises and the voters in his state did make their choice.
