I Have A Simple Question And I Want A Simple Answer No Arguing No Accusations And No Recriminations

This is the Partybuilding Blog Site of The DNC, we all here are Democrats and with  what is very truthfully minimal exceptions we all pretty much believe in the same thing.

My question is what purpose does fighting amongst ourselves serve?

I ask this question because we have real issues that need to be addressed in this country and it has to begin somewhere there are issues of equality for all people women, gays and lesbians all groups regardless of ethnicity .

There are issues of childcare, eldercare, healthcare, the protection of children from abuse and the protection of the elderly from abuse, stopping assaults on women, stopping assaults on gays and lesbians, stopping assaults on various groups regardless of their ethnicity or religion.

We still have an energy crisis which will only worsen and a failing economy supported by a dollar which is at an all time low against foreign currency.

We can not depend on the Republicans to address these issues  for they either hate it or make money from it so it is not in their interest nor in their desire to correct these problems.

Fighting ourselves is not the way of things being a Democrat has never meant falling in lock step  to be sure but we have never attacked each other either that is not our way and it is what separates us from Republicans just as surely as our ability to reason separates humans from lower species.

I would like you to think of a quote I used night before last  “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” this quote is attributed to Edmund Burke but was also used by John F Kennedy a number of times.

Which brings me to say by attacking each other we are doing nothing and evil (the Republicans) will triumph in our disarray and confusion, just something to think about.

Thank you as well but we really need to focus on what is important and attacking each other and name calling isn't it

I agree and I truly hope the stalking of Jackie stops. It is so horrible, and divides our party. I will not sit back and watch it happen.

Thank You!

You are absolutely right. I hope we can all come together and agree to put the differences behind us. What binds us together should be far more than what seperates us. I know we have different views and opinions, but the right wing hijacking of civil liberties, stewardship of the earth and ecenomic policies should give us cause to pause and unite. Thanks for a well said piece.

Can't be done. The software won't allow it.

At least, last time I tried the embed tag it didn't work.

It's probably for the better.

Re: Yup

i thought about it all week ,mr bill.
if some are raised in a home where both helpfulness and superiority are right, then, i start to be helpful-- but i end up, having to take superiority over you, metaphorically speaking. if want peace and love, watch a "Doors" video-- don't believe the little boogers who promise peace here.

We can't help it

This site addresses issues that people feel very strongly, emotionally passionate about.

People argue here from the head sometimes, but more often I think the heart is involved. And people want their ideas and their feelings to matter and to be heard.

I think it's just that - that's all.

It'a a matter of what you do
By rjsnj Jul 20th 2008 at 4:18 pm EDT
It's so much a matter of what arguing you do. People will always disagree to some degree. It's more a matter of what you are willing to do. The question is what have you done to get Democratic candidates elected lately? There's four months before the election - get to work! You can do fundraising, voter registration, letter writing, canvassing (door to door OR by phone). All are useful. Find the nearest Obama meetup and resolve to attend the next meeting. Find out about electoral races in your area - Congressional Rep, Senate and local govt. You really can make a difference.

Have a good Sunday.

most of the anti-obama people here have done little or nothng but sit their arse here and blog hate

Linc, I do not agree with your generalization of supporters of candidates other than Obama.

Disagreements, discussions, debates are not necessarily considered "hate" by the majority of Americans, it was what laid the foundation for the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.

100%
By WRM Jul 20th 2008 at 4:26 pm EDT
I 100%, totally and unequivocally agree; let's get moving. Answer the questions of potential supporters; Disagree with Obama when the need presents itself (he listens) and make the pain of four more years of Bush stupidity, failure and anguish painfully obvious.

You are absolutely right
By Delgado Jul 20th 2008 at 5:33 pm EDT
Except for you assumption that only Democrats are here. The ones with the meanest comments about Obama are Repiglican trolls.

no, they are bitter Billary supporters, PUMA people. But wait...PUMA is the GOP.

Yes....
By Vidya Jul 21st 2008 at 12:09 am EDT
It is perfectly fine to insult the candidates, that is what they are there for, to withstand it, endure it, and overcome it.

But...

IT IS IDIOTIC TO INSULT/ATTACK FELLOW BLOGGERS.

IT IS THE CAUSE OF DIVISION ON THIS SITE, AND HAS TAKEN AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF TIME AND ENERGY TO REPAIR.

Shame is nonproductive...
By Vidya Jul 21st 2008 at 12:58 am EDT
Like guilt.

Live a life without personally attacking/insulting others and you live a real life. Each day is a new opportunity.

Directly due to the Party itself.
By WOMAN Jul 21st 2008 at 10:03 am EDT
The "fighting" is caused because we've seen a true failure of leadership, a selection-not-election of a candidate and blatant discrimination against another candidate; all directly due to the Party itself.

This leadership is totally unqualified for the task they were assigned and their total disregard and lack of judgment with the disenfranchisement of voters will be their fall.

The Democratic Party is not the Republican Party although that is how the powers that be have been running it lately.

"we all pretty much believe in the same thing."
By Jon P Jul 21st 2008 at 1:27 pm EDT
No we don't.

We don't all agree on :

-- illegal immigration
-- faith-based government
-- x-FTA's
-- gun-control
-- military spending
-- social security

and probably a host of other devisive issue sub-points elsewhere.

That's why people keep arguing here. The Democratic platform needs to be revised.

No what is worthless is a person who wont spend 3 minutes reviewing a person's point of view.

Mr. Bill has not "BLINDLY" supported Obama.

I suggest you spend a couple a minute READING about someone before you assume who and what they support!

Geesh!!

Mr. Bill we finally agree...AGAIN
By RJ Jul 21st 2008 at 2:34 pm EDT
I know that I am late to the discussion, but I wanted to say that your post should be an example of exactly the type of discourse this site should provide.

Further those few things that do, in fact, separate us should be examined not as a source of rancor, but an indication that our Party does indeed have and welcome diversity of thought and an opportunity to represent the various beliefs in our polarized nation.

Thank you for your insightful note.

You make very good points. Divided we fail. There are a lot of problems that needd to be fixed that we can't afford to bicker about. But also, debate is healthy. This site was designed for healthy and fair debate.

Selected not elected is a right on statement but saying we are fighting because of it is a misstatement. I thought we were brainstorming!
