There are many pieces of legislation that need attention by the public in order to move forward. They are listed below. Please call your Senators and Representatives to let them know about your support for these important bills.

FAIR PAY RESTORATION ACT (S.1843)
This legislation restores rights held by workers to sue their employers for wage discrimination under certain circumstances. Unfortunately, Republicans in the Senate prohibited a vote by their threatened filibuster of the bill. To take action visit www.capwiz.com/now/issues/alert/?alertid=11305581

INTERNATIONAL PROTECTING GIRLS BY PREVENTING CHILD MARRIAGE ACT OF 2007 (H.R. 3175 and S.1988)
This Act is intended to provide assistance from many different sources in order to prevent child marriage and increase educational, economic and social opportunities that will enhance the status of girls and women throughout the world.

THE BRING OUR TROOPS HOME AND THE IRAQ SOVEREIGNTY RESTORATION ACT OF 2007 (H.R. 508)
This comprehensive legislation contains numerous directives concerning Iraq, including ending hostilities, reconstruction, investigation of the Administrations conduct in Iraq and its reasons for going to war, and health care for our military personnel.

MILITARY READINESS ENHANCEMENT ACT OF 2007 (H.R. 1246)
Introduced back in February of 2007, this legislation repeals the current Defense Department policy regarding homosexuality in the Armed Forces. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against any member or prospective member of the Armed Forces.

Thank you very much for your reply Betty Lou. The importance of the Fair Pay Restoration Act is to empower citizens who work very hard, play by the rules and perform well in their jobs, but are discriminated against by their employer. The remedy provided in this legislation is not about making anyone rich or making all of society pay. It is about restoring equity and fairness to workers who have a legal right to redress the wrong committed against them. These are exactly the types of lawsuits that have protected individuals from other unfair labor practices and are intended to provide a work environment that respects each individual.

The International Protecting Girls By Preventing Child Marriage Act of 2007 is critically important since it invests in schooling, skill development and other methods of improving the condition of girls, many as young as 9 or 10, so that they are not forced into marriage - marriages with much older, adult men.

With regard to H.R. 508, this is comprehensive legislation that includes bringing our troops home while at the same time assisting with reconstruction efforts that will reduce the threat of further violence.

Finally, concerning the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2007, the point of this legislation is to protect members of our armed forces from discrimination in the event that they do choose to be open about their sexual orientation, just as any heterosexual person may choose to be. Every servicemember, no matter their sexual orientation, deserves to be treated with the same dignity, respect and right to be open about their sexual preference without fear of retailiation, recrimination or dismissal.

All of the above pieces of legislation reflect the best of this country's principles and values.

Thank you Sandi for your response. Hopefully once we have a Democrat in the White House and a much larger Democratic majority in Congress we will be able to enact real remedies to the many problems facing us, including the high gasoline prices, the housing foreclosure crisis and the lack of affordable housing in general, an end to the war in Iraq, etc., etc.

Thank you Sharon!
