It's Time to do Something about the Main Stream Media Bias

I am very frustrated by what I considered to be a
general east coast and specifically a New York City
bias in the main stream media. Both Hillary and
Guiliani are garnering unfair notice and publicity
because they are the "hometown" candidates of the
major main stream news organizations.

The broadcasters already have a working relationship
with these candidates and feel more comfortable
covering them and speaking with them in interviews. It
is very noticeable...and I think it's high time
someone called them on it. And I think that someone
should be the Democrats.

We have a very strong field of viable candidates. Some
of whom are not getting a fair share of the media
coverage and as a result a less than fair shake in
regards to getting elected. I think this is shameful.

It's time we the people tell the media who we want to
be our candidates. It's not right that the media has
so much power as to be able to slant the election in a
candidates favor. We really need to start making a
concerted effort on behalf of ALL the candidates. We
do them a disservice, by not allowing their ideas to
be heard. We do the party a disservice if mainstream
America thinks that all we have to offer are Hillary
and Obama. We do America a disservice if we just sit
on our hands and accept it.

If all you hear about in the news is Hillary and
Obama, pretty soon the message is that one of these
two candidates is going to win because they're ahead
in all the polls. But WHY are they ahead? Because they
are by far the superior candidates...or because they
are getting all the media coverage?

We need to fix this...and I believe we can fix this

Need a major push on the MSM
By dk2 Apr 13th 2007 at 12:23 pm EDT
It is past time to write, call, email all the MSM, and keep doing, spread the word, ask your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to join in.

Media covers HRC and BO...

because it sells. Moreover, look at how the media covers them. They do not try to promote HRC; in fact, they seem to bend over backwards to make her look as cynical and calculating as possible.

The MSM is always interested in the bottom line. People are more interested in Clinton and Obama than they are in Dodd or Biden.

Really?
By Yooper Gal Apr 13th 2007 at 4:36 pm EDT
Take a look at this then.

This is an example of what I'm talking about. This is
today's political page on MSNBC.com.

Here is a list of todays "news" items:

1) Cancer no longer taboo on campaign trail

2) Rove didn't mean to delete e-mail

3) Cheney's plane hits bird; craft lands safely

4) Did N.J. governor lack seat belt?

5) Immigration debate sours for illegals

6) Speculation on Sen. Warner's reelection plans

7) Clinton to give ideas for rebuilding government
Pledging to rebuild "the competence of government and
the confidence of the American people," Sen. Hillary
Rodham Clinton says she wants to streamline the
functions of the federal government and boost its
accountability to taxpayers.

8)Hadley wants 'war czar' as soon as possible

9) Alleged D.C. madam lists name in court filings

Note item #7. This clearly demonstrates how NBC is
giving coverage to Hillary. I'm not talking about ad buys. I'm talking about free media disguised as "news".

There are bells and whistles going off in my head that something isn't right about this.

I agree with you, YG. It seems the media don't have to work as hard covering the local folks.

If, as the old saw goes, familiarity breeds contempt, perhaps the media's fawning will eventually backfire, losing support for Clinton and Guiliani.

Playing a bit of devil's advocate here, Clinton and Obama are still oddities in presidential politics. The media love odd things. That probably plays into the coverage, too.

And lastly... Cheney's plane hit a bird? Have they finally taken away his shotgun?

Ideas and Leadership
By George Apr 14th 2007 at 2:36 am EDT
Ideas and Leadership is what this race for the Whitehouse in 2008 should be about, not media hype.

Lets hope that Iowa and New Hampshire primary election voters will see past all the hype, and querie each candidate and look for real Leadership qualities needed for a president.

I believe that we will have either a Biden-Edwards or Edwards-Biden team going for the Whitehouse in 2008. Edwards' reaching out to the lower middle class, and our lower class workers with a strategy to help them join in on the American dream again, showing that the "two America's" can be one America again. Biden's
strategy for bringing the Iraq war to a decent solution with his five point plan show his experience and leadership in all specific and general foreign policy matters.

In my opinion both Edwards and Biden have the best Ideas and Leadership qualities of any candidates running so far.

Agree

I totally agree with this, even as a New Yorker. I used to support Hillary until she started pandering to the right. Now my candidate of choice is Joe Biden, with John Edwards second.

You never hear Joe Biden being talked about, and John Edwards only gets coverage when they are talking about his wife. If we all start innundating the networks about this, perhaps they'll listen. I plan to start tomorrow.

Anyway, what I don't get about the American people is, poll after poll lists Iraq as people's top concern. Then how can they support anyone other than Biden, who has been the only person for at least two years, probably longer, who has had a credible, viable plan to get this thing over with?

I do like the idea of a Biden/Edwards or Edwards/Biden ticket. How could that not be a winner?
