At the end of September the Bush Administration crammed a financial bailout plan down the throats of taxpayers that resulted in interest rates for CDs down from 2.3% to .63%. On Oct 15th our last CD matured so we cashed it out and paid off our mortgage.
We are now down to paying for groceries, insurnce and utilitiess. We may not have a large nest egg, but we do not own anyone anything. This is the America I wish for everyone else.
As a democrat I voted against Sen. Smith, but to "rally" in front of the meeting is going too far. The race is a 50/50 tie and the local democrats have done a good job getting out the vote, it is amazing to see how many Obama/Biden signs in yards around town, but are we taking things too far??
Instead of using the phrases "Wall Street" and "Main street" when discussing the economy, Obama should start using the phrase "Your Street"--i.e., "We can't just bail out 'Wall Street', we must also bail out 'Your Street'.
"Your Street" drives the point home that we're speaking to each individual, much more effectively. I'm certain that just that change alone would add to our lead in the polls.

We are now entering the closing weeks of what promises to be yet another close and contentious presidential election contest. As each side seeks to maximise its advantages and minimise its weaknesses, the Republican party has chosen the lowest of low roads, engaging in two sleazy political marketing campaigns over the past week.
First, DVDs of an anti-Muslim documentary film are being distributed to 28 million voters in swing states like Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Colorado and Wisconsin. Second, Republican telemarketers have begun push polling aimed at scaring Jewish voters in swing states from voting for Barack Obama…
The mass distribution of Obsession is an obvious Republican scare-tactic, right out of the Rovian playbook. Party operatives believe that scaring Americans into believing there's a jihadist under every bed will play to Republican strengths and Democratic weaknesses on national security. They swiftboated John Kerry in 2004. Now they're jihadising Barack Obama.

WASHINGTON, Sep 19 (IPS) - Millions of voters in U.S. states crucial to this fall's presidential election received DVD copies of a controversial documentary film as advertising inserts in their morning newspapers over the past week, with more expected to be sent out over the upcoming weekend.
The 2006 film, "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West", which has been accused by critics of encouraging Islamophobia, was reportedly delivered, or slated for delivery this weekend, into tens of millions of households in states such as Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Missouri and other "swing states" that don't vote consistently for either party and usually decide elections.
Republicans and their candidate, Sen. John McCain, have made the battling the threat posed by radical Islamists a central platform of their campaign, while presenting their Democratic rival, Sen. Washington, DC - The Democratic National Committee today updated the Count the Lies counter after CNN called one of John McCain's most frequent false attacks on tax cuts "misleading.' As CNN notes, McCain's campaign continues to repeat a long-debunked lie about Senator Obama's voting record despite a clear record of opposing tax increases on the vast majority of American families.
This article is at least the 62nd fact check to debunk McCain campaign lies since he promised to run a respectful campaign in February. Barack Obama would support higher taxes is a central part of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign. You have to wonder about a film that could muster no better an endorsement to adorn its poster than that of CNN’s resident right-wing extremist Glenn Beck. "Obsession is without exaggeration one of the most important films of our time," says Beck. (Who would accuse Glenn Beck of exaggerating?)

Newsweek: Vehicle Records of McCain's 13 Cars Contradict His Boast About Buying American
DETROIT, MI - Today Newsweek reported that John McCain owns 13 cars - and that contrary to what McCain said in a recent TV interview, the fleet includes three foreign cars. The report shows that McCain wasn't being honest with voters during a recent interview with WXYZ TV in Detroit when he said: "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud."
McCain made the comments while defending his purchase of foreign hybrid vehicle - a purchase he denied making despite having bragged about it in South Carolina last year.
In addition to the foreign hybrid he bragged about last year, Newsweek reports that McCain's fleet of 13 vehicles includes a Lexus, a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, and a 2001 Honda sedan.
In a conference call today to respond to the latest news of John McCain not being straight with working families, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger said:
"In an interview a few weeks ago with a Detroit TV station, John McCain said, and I quote, "I've bought American literally all my life, and I'm proud." That may be a nice campaign line, but it turns out that John McCain wasn't being straight with the people of Detroit-in fact, John McCain owns 13 cars, including a foreign made Lexus, a Volkswagon, and a Honda Sedan-on top of the Toyota Prius that he bragged about buying just last year. People are free to buy any kind of car they want-that isn't the issue here. What is the issue is that the American auto industry, and American voters, deserve a president who will be straight with them. If we can't trust John McCain on something as simple as what kind of cars he owns, how can we trust him when he talks about investing in American jobs. "Buy American" can't just be a slogan that John McCain rolls out when he is in Michigan. It's insulting to our members. We need a president who's committed to rebuilding the auto industry here America, not a President who buys foreign cars and then lies about when he thinks autoworkers are watching."

The hour-long video began turning up in mailboxes last week as a direct mailing, and also as an advertising insert in dozens of newspapers, including The Miami Herald and the South-Florida Sun-Sentinel.
