1 - The Republicans don't have anyone close to Geraldine Ferraro or Hilary Rodham Clinton as serious-minded contenders for the office of President of the United States, which is unfortunate for the GOP because hockey moms are an important demographic and...
2 - I have always suspected that Sarah Palin is neither well-read nor well-travelled which equates to a diminished capacity for critical analysis of complex world issues. Recall that during the Katie Couric interview she couldn't give an answer to what kind of political magazines and newspapers she reads, and mocked the intellectual-types who send their kids off to backpack across Europe. What better way to learn about the world around you?
3 - Sarah Palin is undoubtedly passionate and full of "spunk." But I don't want someone with spunk running the nation. I'd prefer a considerate, strong-willed, intelligent person.
4 - I also suspect that Palin's world view reflects that of a lot of other hockey moms - they know very little about the world around them. Perhaps being overburdened with raising families, running the house, keeping their children safe, and getting kids to and from school leaves little energy or time to consider the woes of the nation and the world beyond the ice-rink, the soccer pitch, or the cul-de-sac. One thing is for certain - the Sarah Palin demographic is a large group, they are a key swing vote, and they send an awful lot of their children into harms way via the military. I desperately want to be wrong about this one. My son shares the pitch with a lot of shiny-eyed, beautiful young people.
The shameless bigot you see pictured at right is Bobby May, McCain campaign chair in Buchanan County, Virginia, as well as treasurer and former correspondence secretary of the Buchanan County Republican Party. Mr. May recently published a newspaper column containing an overtly racist attack against Barack Obama. Appearing in a local paper called The Voice, May's column contained a number of inflammatory charges against Obama, including the following on Obama's plans for America if elected:
"FREEDOM OF RELIGION: Mandatory Black Liberation Theology classes taught in all churches - raise taxes to pay for this mandate. Put Rev. Jeremiah Wright in charge...."
"DRUG CRISIS: Raise taxes to pay for free drugs for Obama’s inner-city political base...."
"2ND AMENDMENT: Under Obama will only apply to gang-bangers, illegal aliens, Islamo-Fascist terrorists, and Senator Jim Webb’s aide...."
"FOREIGN RELATIONS: Appoint Rev. Al Sharpton as Secretary of State, Jesse Jackson as UN Representative, and let Bill Clinton handle all other "foreign relations" ... As long as Hillary doesn't find out...!"
"THE WHITE HOUSE: Hire rapper Ludacris to “paint it black.” Taxes to be increased to buy enough paint for the job plus spray-paint for graffiti...."
"THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES: Raise taxes to send $845 billion, most of it to Africa so the Obama family there can skim off enough for them to free their goats and live the American Dream...."
"NATIONAL ANTHEM: Change to the "Black National Anthem" by James Weldon Johnson...."
"US CURRENCY: Update photos to reflect US diversity; include pictures of "great Americans" such as Oprah Winfrey, Ludacris, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Paris Hilton, and Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson (Obama's new Secretary of the Treasury - 50 Cent refused position after learning that he would lose his crazy check if he accepted the nomination)...."
"US FLAG: Replace 50 stars with a star and crescent logo; red stripes changed to green to represent Obama’s tree-hugging radical environmentalism and his lack of experience. Flag lapel pins, having become a substitute for “real patriotism,” will henceforth be banned...."
At the end of his column May challenged Obama to meet him on "County Talk," a Friday morning talk show on radio station WMJD 100.7 in Grundy VA. It seems Mr. May is quite the local mover and shaker in Buchanan County Republican circles: In addition to his work with The Voice and WMJD, he has also appeared in the Virginia Mountaineer with other local Republican leaders.
Complaints and expressions of disgust at Mr. May's comments can and should be directed to the following:

This story has already attracted the attention of the Los Angeles Times and blogs such as the Daily Kos, and with lots of further attention could become a major embarrassment to the GOP and the McCain campaign. The GOP and the McCain campaign should be pressed to acknowledge Mr. May's statements, to condemn and apologize for them, and to remove Mr. May from any official party or campaign role.

I live and work in LA - Lower Alabama.
One of my coworkers, fully aware of my status as an Obama supporter and organizer, has seen fit to tell me two jokes going around among our local Republicans.
The first joke's punch-line was Obama getting assassinated.
The punch line of the second joke, was that Michelle Obama is a whore.
Another coworker forwarded an email to me focusing on Obama being a product of miscegenation.
Eating lunch last week with the first coworker, I pointed out that Palin has been a member of the Alaska Independence Party (AIP).
He replied by saying "America is tired of this negativity." (Apparently saying Obama should be assassinated and his wife is a whore, are positive statements in the GOP.)
Then he added "Besides I am from Alabama and being in favor of secession is a good thing."
These few interactions bring it all together.
Killing the black candidate - good.
Turning his wife into a whore - good.
Encouraging bigotry towards people of mixed race - good.
Breaking up America - good.
Four more years of the same - Awesome!
Republican operatives are using an anti-Muslim film and push polling to raise fears of terrorism and smear Barack Obama
Richard Silverstein, Guardian, 9/22/08
We are now entering the closing weeks of what promises to be yet another close and contentious presidential election contest. As each side seeks to maximise its advantages and minimise its weaknesses, the Republican party has chosen the lowest of low roads, engaging in two sleazy political marketing campaigns over the past week.
First, DVDs of an anti-Muslim documentary film are being distributed to 28 million voters in swing states like Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Colorado and Wisconsin. Second, Republican telemarketers have begun push polling aimed at scaring Jewish voters in swing states from voting for Barack Obama…
The mass distribution of Obsession is an obvious Republican scare-tactic, right out of the Rovian playbook. Party operatives believe that scaring Americans into believing there's a jihadist under every bed will play to Republican strengths and Democratic weaknesses on national security. They swiftboated John Kerry in 2004. Now they're jihadising Barack Obama.
Ali Gharib, Inter Press Service, 9/19/08
WASHINGTON, Sep 19 (IPS) - Millions of voters in U.S. states crucial to this fall's presidential election received DVD copies of a controversial documentary film as advertising inserts in their morning newspapers over the past week, with more expected to be sent out over the upcoming weekend.
The 2006 film, "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West", which has been accused by critics of encouraging Islamophobia, was reportedly delivered, or slated for delivery this weekend, into tens of millions of households in states such as Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Missouri and other "swing states" that don't vote consistently for either party and usually decide elections.
Republicans and their candidate, Sen. John McCain, have made the battling the threat posed by radical Islamists a central platform of their campaign, while presenting their Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, as being weak on the issue. Obama has also fought off persistent "smear" campaigns, particularly among Jewish voters, that he is a closet Muslim. Read More »

You have to wonder about a film that could muster no better an endorsement to adorn its poster than that of CNN’s resident right-wing extremist Glenn Beck. "Obsession is without exaggeration one of the most important films of our time," says Beck. (Who would accuse Glenn Beck of exaggerating?)
The film Beck is lauding, “Obsession: Islam’s Radical War against the West,” is a 2005 work of anti-Muslim propaganda that has recently been widely distributed via an unprecedented campaign. Read More »
Haven't we all had just about enough? I know the Queen has. Just this morning Freedom called my attention to a post in the Daily Kos titled: Gallup admits it. It only releases likely voter results when they favor McCain! [This is a trend that the Queen noticed during the primary as well.]
Last Monday, September 8, Gallup released a poll that was taken in the three days immediately following Republican National Convention, showed by far the largest national lead McCain has ever had in any poll (54-44 among likely voters), and generated a tremendous amount of attention. It helped drive the buzz for all of last week -- that McCain got a huge bounce from his convention, that Palin was a game-changer, that Obama was in big trouble, etc.
Gallup never released a likely voter poll over the three days immediately following the Democratic convention -- nor did it release any polls through USA Today during Obama's bounce. Putting it in USA Today guarantees far greater attention than the tracking poll alone gets. This was a deliberate choice by Gallup and USA Today -- to release a poll that would maximize the impression of McCain's bounce and help shape the campaign narrative in favor of McCain-Palin's favor.

Some of us are all shocked and upset that the two most outspoken liberal critics of the Bush Administration--Matthews and Olbermann have been demoted while loud mouth right wing bigots like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity remain on the air--not to mention the thinly disguised right-wing pundits like Brian Williams and Charles Gibson remain.
But this is to be expected. This is nothing new. During the Truman/Dewey campaign of 1948, we had the same biased reporting that we have today. Most of the media had anti-Truman cartoons such as the one shown below. And, as I've mentioned before, they even believed their own lies and printed newspaper headlines announcing Dewey's win--when, in fact, it was a victory for the Democrats. So the more things "change" the more they stay the same when Republicans are in charge.

Who would have thought....
Cindy, Sarah, Laura, and Hillary the GOP.
A Carl Rove inspired initiative...
And,if you think Lieberman made an ass of himself at the GOP convention, you haven't seen anything...
His banker/media hound in arms...

Oh the Hipocracy, I don't want to hear a single person from the GOP say damn word about "Family Values." I believe this child is a blessing BUT this childs grandmother is a hipocrite of the highest level. Gov. Palin believes in: No child sex education, birth control is abortion, and no pregnant mother whether RAPED, a victim of INCEST, or posibly DYING, should ever have an abortion. Well, it seems Bristol has learned from her mother well.
Palin says 17-year-old daughter is pregnant
By LIZ SIDOTI " 4 hours ago
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) " John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin said Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, an announcement campaign aides said was aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin's youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter's.
A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child's father. Bristol Palin's baby is due in late December.
"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents," Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement.
