The following post discusses what I think is the REAL elephant in our living room that no one is discussing:
In my opinion, and I'm sure others may disagree as well as agree since this is after all a democracy, I think that the bottom line for this election is really about wrestling our government out of the hands of conservatives and into the hands of progressives--and that includes conservative Democrats as well as conservative Republicans.
Our Democratic Party has its own unofficial conservative wing--the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) of which both Clintons have been very active over the years. By my standards, based on much of the legislation that they have supported, neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton are "progressive democrats". I would categorize both of them as conservative Democrats.
I have a lifetime of experience in the financial industry and I can tell you for certain that bankers have no greater friend than Bill Clinton.
Read More »I was watching cable the other day and Henry Rollins, a punk rock music artist with a power lifters body, who by the way, is also a poet and actor was the host. Rollins was the first and only television host I've seen who actually voiced that he was a liberal and ready to kick some ass as opposed to laying on the highway awaiting tire tracks. What a concept I thought, liberals who are not afraid to stand up and be counted, use a firm handshake and look down the barrel of a conservative's gun with one that has a bigger barrel!
Secondly, the right's conservative Corporate generals are for the most part working only to put great wealth in their own pockets and more mindless consumers on the street. The creative community for the most part are creating "thinkers". "Thinkers" consume but not without reading the label.
Thirdly, as you know all Democrats are not liberal and that's what makes the world a great place cause we need a balance of ideas from all sides to keep America great. Of course some Dems aren't really Democrats but virtual wolves in sheeps clothing and yes, I am speaking about Joe Liberman but that's another subject altogether.
In closing, I say stand up and be counted, stay true to your heart and we'll see a sea of blue in November!
Jim has recently written a great book titled: "Swim against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow"
Jim is an old time Texas Liberal. Close friend of Molly Ivins. In fact this book is dedicated to her. Now you can go here and listen to him talk about his book. Hightower is a great Texan, great speaker, great writer and great liberal. He is somewhat of Mark Twain.
[Please bear with the person introducing Jim. Jim is the lively one with the cowboy hat.] I promise you will love Jim. It is very inspirational. In the book he looks into the lives of hardworking souls who have found ways to break free from corporate tentacles and redefine success in business politics and life in general. It's the story of mutts and mavericks (not of the fake McCain variety).

FROM JIM: "where are we going? and what am I doing in this handbasket?
Jim has that special brand of humor that is unique to Texans.
"The attack Sunday morning lasted only minutes. But the anger behind it may have been building for months, if not years. It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that, and his stated hatred for the liberal movement,' Police Chief Sterling Owen said." DEMOCRATS RECOGNIZE THAT YOU HAVE TO BUILD A COALITION BEYOND A NARROW THREAD OF THE PARTY TO RUN THE COUNTRY. A REALITY THAT ESCAPES THE REPUBLICANS
As Barack Obama moves to broaden his appeal beyond loyal Democrats, a chorus of anger and disappointment has arisen from the left. But those voices are a distinct minority because the party has a more pressing concern: winning in November. [1] Read More »
We wish a speedy and complete recovery to our good friend!
The NeoCons seem to forget that it was the greatest Liberal, Franklin D. Roosevelt that answered Japans attack with the full might of this United States, It was Liberal Harry Truman who had the foresight and Guts to use the Atomic Bomb on Japan thus saving the 200,000 U.S. Casualties that were expected if we had to invade Japan instead of dropping the bomb. It was a Liberal John F. Kennedy who had the Strength to face down the Soviet Union over their placing Missiles in Cuba only 90 miles from out shores.
Lets straighten out the Faux Fox morons, Liberals have done more to create, build and preserve this United States than the lily livered Draft dodging Conservatives like George W. Bush ever could. By the way God is a Liberal other wise he would not have taken the risk of changing the course when he declared, "Let there be light!"
Never give up, never surrender our Liberal Ideals, a Democrat must win in 2008

The illustration below mirrors a quote from Harry Truman: "Give the people a choice between a Republican and a Democrat who is acting like a watered down Republican and they will choose the Republican every time."
Bipartisanship is fine TO A POINT. I also think that is is good for all Democrats to remember that there are SIGNIFICANT differences between the two parties. As far as I'm concerned we have lost a lot of our party identity in trying too much to appease the Republicans and in not standing up to their nonsense and wrong doing.
Our Congress continues to do it. We elected them over a year ago on a mandate to end the war in Iraq. And what have they done? Supported a surge.
I am more than ready for Democrats to begin acting like Democrats who really do want to end war, who really do want to rebuild America. To rebuild our infrastructure will take more than creating a budget surplus and then turning it over to a Republican President who will then turn that surplus into tax break for the upper 1%. It will take a president who had the courage to spend that surplus to create jobs and rebuild our infrastructure.

Both parties are too far left or too far right.
Our country needs compromise on these issues:
1. What to do with Irac and the terrorist threat- Common ground regarding international issues.
2. What to do about entitlements
Social Security - Medicare etc.
3. Compromise on health care issues. Universal health care run by the governement as a single payer system - is not politically attainable.
Most of you people here, act just like the "intolerant Republicans" you claim to hate. So what if I want to consider voting for John McCain, at least I’m open-minded and am willing to listen to what he has to say, unlike a majority of the people on this site. I am willing to do just what I did with Rudy & Ron Paul, I’m going to call up their campaign HQ and tell them I’m a gay, liberal democrat, why should I vote for McCain? And then LISTEN to what they have to say, even if I don't agree with most of it. That is something we should ALL do if we are truly open-minded. Hell, I would even call up Huckabee's campaign too if he got the nom. (which he won't). I am willing to inform myself about the individual candidates, not judge them on the actions of George Bush, because I am a TRUE Liberal, not just a close-minded Democrat, who CLAIMS to be an open-minded Liberal. Like I said, being open-minded does not simply mean supporting gay rights, or one other issue. It means being open to the opinions of others on a broad range of issues, whether they are economic, social, or foreign issues. I am PROUD to say that I would consider voting for McCain, because it makes me truly open-minded and a TRUE Liberal.
I bet their are still a few of you saying "I’m open-minded, this guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about", think about it for a second. When a GOP Pres. Ad come on TV, do you change the channel or mute the TV? When a GOP debate is on, do you watch it even though you’re not a Republican? I watch all the debates I can. Have you ever made an attempt to contact a GOP candidate’s campaign to get more info? No you say? Then I guess your just as intolerant of other peoples views as you accuse them of being. Now if you people would do your research, you would know that John McCain approached, and was actually on John Kerry's list of VP noms. It's amazing what you find when you ask questions and do research! I wonder why these conservative extremist consider John McCain a "bad Republican" or a "Liberal", hmmm... might have something to do with him supporting a "Liberal" immigration plan, or him not supporting a Federal Gay Marriage ban. Now me I’m hoping that Michael Bloomberg enters the race for the fact that he supports gay rights among other things that I support, but he is also a part of that bi-partisan group (http://www.bridgingthepoliticaldivide.org) of elected officials from BOTH parties....you know, the people that you all call traitors that turned on their parties and are now working with them enemy, like a certain possible VP nom, Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, OMG! Yes, a potential Democratic VP in bed with the GOP! I know, horrible isn't it? My God, look at all them Democrats working with Republicans! We got Harold Ford, Jr. and Kathleen Sebelius working with Matthew Dowd and Arnold Schwarzenegger. A sign of the Apocalypse? No...It’s a small sign of hope, some people that have the brains, to cast intolerance and narrow-mindedness aside and work together, and embrace each others ideas. Something you people seem to be incapable of.
After all of this, I now hope that some of you see that you have been acting no different than the close-minded, intolerant Republicans that you claim to hate.
Now let the intolerant attacks begin! :)

I seek interesting political programs that people create, you can submit information about your program of up to 10 minutes that you created on youtube to info@democratz.org
Also on the web site look at our campaigns to enact single payer universal health care, increase the minimum wage to $10 an hour and to end the war in Iraq.
Thank you.
JESUS WAS A LIBERAL
It never ceases to amaze me how Democrats can allow conservative Republicans--a group whose only reason for being is to undermine the poor--to co-opt the love of God as a political issue. I once read a bumper sticker that said, “The Christian Right is neither Christian, nor Right.” I remember thinking at the time, what a profoundly concise statement of fact--Shakespeare couldn’t have done any better. And every Democratic candidate in America should promote that position every time they opened their mouths to address the Christian community. Instead of caving in to the conservative theft of Christianity, they should use every opportunity to educate the people to the facts, and the fact is, Jesus Christ was a liberal--and according to his teachings, to be anything else, is less than Christian. It’s unbelievable. These thugs didn’t just steal Christmas--they stole the Messiah himself.
Ok, I know--that sounds like a ridiculously partisan statement, and admittedly, I’m far from a Biblical scholar. In fact, I’m not even truly what most people would call a Christian--that is, unless they examined my heart. But I can read, and all the supernatural stuff notwithstanding, I am a great admirer of Jesus as a progressive, a teacher, and philosopher. So I stand my position--Jesus was a liberal, and I challenge any Biblical scholar in the world to prove me wrong. Read More »

Here are two items to let you know that liberals are alive and well in Dallas, despite what the Bush-controlled media may say about Dallas and despite the fact that we seem to be stuck against our protests with having his library at SMU.
FIRST OF ALL MANY OF US DON’T LIKE THE PATRIOT ACT
Texans have passed resolutions opposing sections of the USA Patriot Act in four communities: Austin, Dallas, El Paso and Sunset Valley.Nationwide more than 385 communities have passed resolutions against this hideous assault to our rights to privacy. By selecting the link below you can get all the necessary details for passing a community resolution in your area.

Check out this video on YouTube. Very funny and very poignant about gay marriage and how homosexuals are being scapegoated for everything!
As through the term "Liberal" is a dirty word. Well here is the American Heritage Dictionary definition of Liberal.
"Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded."
To my way of thinking that is the definition of a person I would want in political office. I would be proud to be labeled a "Liberal", and I say Liberal is good for Northeastern Wisconsin, especially on issues of Healthcare, Iraq, and Labor issues.
Now checkout the alternative " Conservative" from the American Heritage Dictionary.
"Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change."
After reading this yes Gard is a Conservative, who likes the status que, like stay the course in Iraq. His healthcare reforms consist of Health Savings Accounts, and Ohhh!!! a few tax credits. Gard is no friend of Labor, and seems to agree with the President on nearly all issues. With almost 70 percent of American's disagreeing with President Bushes on the issues. I would have to say that its Gard that is out of touch with Wisconsin.
