Will McCain actually show up and cast a vote on the financial bailout? Or will be be a chicken liver like he has been this year so far on 8 key votes on America's Energy crisis. Obama should have nailed him to the wall on that one and pounded the nails in.

 http://www.alternet.org/environment/94988/mccain_is_absent_on_america's_energy_crisis,_misses_eight_key_votes/

Then there was the important vote on medicare--the one that Ted Kennedy literally got up from his deathbed to come to the Senate to cast his vote.  McCain was not present to vote on that one either.

Instead of STANDING UP for the people with his vote, McCain prefers to play it safe and stand down with his rich conservative friends--oh well they probably have a lot in common like 7 homes and 13 cars.

What do you think of this new website by respected business professor Jack Walters?

http://www.hadenoughvotedemocratic.org/

As the Queen (of my world), I added a new permanent page to my website.  I share it here with you:

If you receive a request to register to vote or update your address in the mail, please take it to your local Democratic Headquarters and ask them to deal with it.  This may be important.  Some states allow the ruling party (the one who carried the last general election in the state) to send out these notices and to strike names from the registered voters rolls if voters don’t respond to these requests. (They “assume” that the voter either doesn’t exist or has moved from this precinct.  It is a type of Jim Crow voter disinfranchisement trick.)

If you have not voted, the Queen has just added a new page to help you.

VOTE

It could not be easier!  It only takes a few seconds. PLEASE DO IT NOW IF YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE.  In many states, such as Texas, you only have until October 6 to register.

THIS ELECTION IS NOT ABOUT RACE AND/OR GENDER. Yes, it's historic: We have the first black presidential nominee and women cracking through the top of the ticket. And as a black female, I am practically salivating. I just made two breakthroughs! But enough already!

THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT THE ISSUES: The economy! Health Care, Education, Failing Infrastructure, Port Security, the Economy! National Security, Jobs, Pensions, Toyota or GM, the Economy! Immigration, Housing, Retirement, the Wars in Iraq And Afghanistan, The Economy! Restoring American Credibility, our Reputation and Moral Standing in the World, The Deficit and Back to: The Economy!

AND THE SUPREME COURT!!!Those justices with one hand on the Constitution and the other hand on women's ovaries! An article titled: The Last Word -- on the back page of the May 12/2008 issue of the news magazine Newsweek calls Supreme Court justices among the most powerful people in America! She says their decisions affect and shape our lives for decades. Like: Brown v. Board of Education? Roe v. Wade. School Prayer. Eminent Domain. Unreasonable searches and protection from self-incrimination.

The Newsweek article says republican presidents have appointed all (but two) of the justices on the Supreme Court in the last 40-years and the court is now tilting in the direct of the ultra-conservative right with the appointments of Samuel Alito (he replaced Sandra Day O'Connor) and John Roberts, the Bush appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice.

And do not forget the lower courts. A USA Today article (May 12, 2008) cites President Ronald Reagan and his influence on the APPEALS COURTS. The author says 20-years ago, Reagan appointed justices to an influential set of 13 regional courts and these Appeals Court justices are now a dominant force in American law. Author says we are now feeling their decisions. These judges have apparently become the first in more than a half-century to say the Second Amendment protects individual rights to own guns. They also took the lead in ruling against affirmative-action (University of Michigan--the affirmative action plan at their law school) and other race-conscious policies. They also upheld bans on partial-birth abortion procedures before that even reached the Supreme Court!

Reagan was the one (according to the USA Today article) who set out to (quote) reverse the trend of judicial involvement in school integration, prison problems and the environment...(unquote) Reagan also broke the prior White House pattern of accepting senators preferences for appeals courts seats and put in place a sophisticated screening of candidates run by Department of Justice and White House lawyers. One critic in the article says good people were passed over because they were not ideologues. The author says president Bill Clinton did not want to expend major political capital with his court appointments. Clinton chose, instead, to put a priority on diversity and set records for appointing women and minorities.

A president Obama or John McCain will likely get to appoint several justices to our highest courts. The question for voters, especially female voters OF ALL RACES IS: Do you want more conservatives and ultra-right courts? Want judges legislating your reproductive decisions? If you do not, then decide carefully whom you vote for. Because you may try to exercise your free will to choose what to do with your fallopian tubes and find that a pit bull is blocking your path. With or without lipstick!
There are important decisions made everyday in everyone's lives. It might be assumed that those in the most important decision making positions on the authority of the United States, would make such decisions that should be based upon Principles.

But this leaves the question, When determining a Candidate for the office of President, what principles must a candidate have to either support, or in the case of proving a lack of the principle, do you dissent?   Read More »
I would like to note that I had a very interesting conversation with an individual from the campaign team of a certain candidate for New York State Assembly regarding the senior citizen vote in New york City. This individual attempted to convince me that the senior citizen vote was very important and very easily obtained. I have to admit that I played dumb and wanted to hear what the individual, a middle-aged Hispanic female, had to say. She explained to me that Senior citizens are easily influenced by simply visiting them and promising them that you will do something to help reduce the cost of prescription drugs. I asked her, is that it? She laughingly shouted: "of course! Its so simple!" I had to laugh along with her and then I entered the train station wondering, how incredibly naive this individual was and how under appreciated the elderly community is. The senior citizen vote is crucial because it has proven to be a deciding factor in many races, but to assume that the elderly are naive and easily influenced is both a misconception and a blatant discriminatory concept. I hope that the unnamed candidate realizes this, or he/she will be in for a big surprise come election day.
I hope that individuals take the opportunity to vote seriously in the upcoming primaries in New York City and on election day. We, collectively, need to spread the message that voting is a fundamental part of the American lifestyle and is more than just a right, but a dutiful responsibility that demonstrates our commitment to our system of government, our appreciation for our way of life, and our concern for the well being of both the nation and our fellow citizens. If we fail to get out there and vote, we essentially reduce ourselves to not being heard. Once we are not heard, we soon cease to exist in the public eye, and that is when neglect breeds tension and underfunded neighborhoods deteriorating into crime-infested centers of urban decay. Voting is power and we should never dismiss the influential power that our votes carry collectively.
I believe firmly in the involvement of the local population in all the decisions that their elected officials vote on. There should be no piece of legislation that members of the community are unaware of, and the involvement of the community should not be viewed as a hassle or obstacle, but as the foundation for all elected officials. Never should elected officials leave their communities in the dark, and the bottom line is, too many politicians take for granted the confidence of their constituency. This practice needs to be remedied, and I hope that aspiring politicians are taking heed to the warning that future constituents will not be so easily misinformed, and the voting, will again become a major American principle.
Reminder: Today is the Democratic Primary Runoff. Several key races at the state and local level will be decided today in every precinct!

The Democrats do not have enough members to control the Senate. In order to do that, we would need 60 Democratic Senators.  This is the important fact for us to remember when supporting Democrats in the fall. Just because we have control of the gavel, does not mean that we have control of the Senate.

There are 49 Democrats and 49 Republicans and two independents.  But because both of the independents caucus with the Democrats, the Democrats have a 51 to 49 majority and thus Democrats control the gavel with Harry Reid.  However if you will consider that one of those Democrats is Lieberman who votes often with the Republicans, and if you will consider how rarely Republicans cross party lines in the Senate, you can see what a struggle it is for Democrats to pass legislation in the Senate—when it does happen it is only with many amendments to the legislation.

A post in regard to the vote I recently posted was incorrect in regard to the 2/3s majority required for every vote.  This is not true.  I apologize for posting this misinformation. The 2/3’s rule is required only in certain cases.  Among them include ratification of treaties.  But, as I said, only 2/3’s majority of a quorum present is required to impeach, not 2/3’s of the Senate.  That is important to remember because it is easier to impeach than we may have been led to believe.

Perhaps today, but for cetain sometime this week the Senate will vote on FISA,

Harry Reid has said that he will ask for a clause to strike the telecom immunity.  Obama has said the same.  Call your senators today and hold their feet to the fire on this issue.  Tell them to strike the telecom Immunity clause from the FISA bill.

Bush has said that he wants this bill passed as is  as soon as possible.  I'll bet he does.  STOP THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION AND CORPORATE AMERICA'S FREE RIDE. Those who break the law shouild not be given retroactive immunity.

If you are concerned about continuing the War in the MiddleEast as I am then thats one good reason to vote Democrat in November. Look at how many Men and Women we have lost not to mention the ones who are alive but wounded for life because of the Bush lies in the Republican Party. Now McCain wants to continue this course and also have a base in Iraq for years to come. If anyone is voting for McCain because they are angry at Obama get over it quick . If your against the Iraq War and voting for Senator McCain then your a hypocrite period . This is why our country is screwed up every 4 years during election time and this time some Democrats or people claiming to be Democrats will vote for McCain . You will if he is elected get more of the Republican policies that have not worked and are killing our Economy and also the Trillions of your tax dollars spent on the Iraq War .Your harded eared money . So again think very clearly about what your planning on doing . Voting for Senator McCain you might just want to hand in your Democratic Party badge because what your telling us is that you do not need the Democratic Party anymore and you like Senator Joe Lieberman have become a Republican. At least be honest with yourself and with fellow Democrats before you vote for Senator McCain and just come out of the closet and say I am really a Republican and nolonger a Democrat. We have alot of new Democrats in our Party and maybe some of you who now support McCain have forgotten your ideals from the late 1960's and have grown to old to remember who you are now. I still have my Idealism intact and will never vote Republican not now not ever. Its like taken candy from the devil . The new generation of Democrats now in the Party will elect Obama President in November. McCain will be history and will fade away . Senator Obama will make Americans proud and is relationship with International leaders will be welcomed from around the Globe. If you vote McCain then you support the Bush failed Policies and thats your choice. I want Change and that is Obama not a Bush Republican. Senator Hillary Clinton will be voting for Senator Obama as a Democrat and so will I and millions of others around the country. Thats the bottomline
I disagree with the assumption that voting for someone other than McCain or Obama is a throw-away vote.

One necessary component to having viable alternatives to Republicans and Democrats (and let's face it, we do need alternatives because the country is much more politically diverse than these two parties would seem to indicate) is to cast a vote for those alternatives.

As a Democrat I believe the time has come for our Government to ban and dismantle all our Nuclear Weapons including production facilities should be transformed for Non Nuclear Alternatives. Presidents past and Present have told other nations to stop any Nuclear production period. We see this with North Korea ,Iran, and a few other countries. If we are going to have a Anti Nuclear Weapons policy for other nations to live by then we must set now an example. I hope when Obama becomes President that not only will we set a policy to end all production and use of Nuclear Weapons and Power but also within the United States close all our Nuclear Weapons complexes and have a Worldwide policy that no nation can produce or use Nuclear Power. This must be part of the agenda of the new Democratic President. For the sake of our Children and the future of our World lets be a leader in ending Nuclear Power once and for all here at home and around the World Yes We Can.
after todays disasterous decision to split the delegates, it is ever clearer that our votes in america do not count. Senator Obama didn't even bother to put his name on the ballot in Michigan because he knew he couldn't win. Now he gets half the delegates? Electorates were originally invented because of the vastness of our country and the time it took for citizens to get somewhere to vote. These delegates were to vote for the candidate with the general consensus. Now its a political game, where our votes do not count. I urge all americans to stop wasting your time voting in national elections. Popular vote means nothing. No candidate is elected by popular vote and delegates and superdelegates cast their votes on whatever dirty deal has been arranged in the back rooms of the convention hall. Our votes don't count. Nothing can convince me otherwise. After the last election and now this one, I am ever more determined to convince all people to stop voting until the electorate system is abolished and our votes decide who leads our country.
