Here in Kentucky's First Congressional District, our candidate Heather Ryan is really beginning to turn some heads. It all started at the Ruby Laffoon Dinner a couple of months ago, and has been building through to Fancy Farm weekend, where she fired up Democrats at the breakfast, and then took it to Republicans in the heat of Fancy Farm.   Read More »
At Ryan for Kentucky, we believe that the playing field has been tilted against working families for far too long. My whole life, it seems that war has been waged on union workers and workers attempting to form new unions. I have witnessed this personally in a union fight. Although initially, 80% of the workers at our warehouse signed on to become union, the long process allowed the company to come in and "behind the scenes" peel off these votes. How? By turning worker against worker. Promising promotion of certain workers, and higher wages and more benefits if the union failed.   Read More »
Exxon Ed Whitfield has been trying to clean up his voting record for this election year. He knows it is a bad year for Republicans, and that he has been a shameless enabler of every failed policy of the Bush Administration. All the election year scuffling to clean up his record cannot hide the fact that he has been a constant, bitter opponent to reform of our healthcare system, and of providing equal access to those in poverty as those with wealth to healthcare. Lets look at some of Exxon Eddie's votes to limit the access of healthcare to working Americans.   Read More »
Happy Independence Day everyone!! Today our nation celebrates it's Declaration of Independence from the British Empire. After much sacrifice from that generation, our nation would go on to become the first that was built upon the liberal ideals of the Enlightenment. Our nation would become a bastion of freedom, and the "city on the hill" for the world to aspire to.   Read More »

LANHAM, Md. - Democratic lawyer and nonprofit executive Donna Edwards won a special election Tuesday to become Maryland's first black woman elected to Congress.

Edwards beat Republican Peter James in the race to serve the remainder of former U.S. Rep. Albert Wynn's term in Maryland's 4th District. Wynn left office May 31 to take a lobbying job after losing to Edwards in February's Democratic primary by 22 percentage points.  ...

Once she is sworn in, Democrats will have 236 seats in the House to Republicans' 199.  ...

Although it is apparent that our Democratic Party is badly fractured and damaged due to the intense and personal battle that has resulted from the highly contested race for our Party's Presidential Nomination, there is room for unity within the Party.

We may be at a point that our Party is irreparably damaged in the area of the Presidential Nomination, especially if the continued actions by the Party elite are successful at strong-arming Obama into the nomination without allowing the delegates the opportunity to vote first in Denver, but there is a greater cause that can unite all Democrats. There is a good chance that McCain could become our next President, due to the deep and damaging divides in the Democratic Party. If this happens, it becomes all the more important for all Democrats to put aside our differences over the Presidential race and focus on the all important Congressional races.

This year, a record number of Republican House Members and Senators have announced they will not seek re-election. They see the writing on the wall about their future. All national polling shows that when the American public is asked "which party would you prefer to see in control of the Congress?", the overwhelming response is the Democratic Party.

Currently our Party has a significant margin over the Republicans in the US House of Representatives, but a larger margin is needed to be able to have control over the direction this nation will take, should McCain become President.

In the Senate, our Party has only a two vote majority, due to two Independent Senators caucusing with the Democrats, for a total of 52 votes. We must all work together to strengthen that margin to 60.

During the 110th Congress, due to the Democrats not having 60 votes in the Senate, they have been unable to override vetoes from President Bush. They have also been blocked by Republicans from being able to bring legislation to the floor of the Senate for debate, discussion and votes. Much of the important legislation passed by the House has gone nowhere in the Senate due to this absence of the 60 votes needed for full control of the legislative agenda. Republicans have hijacked the process, blocking any progress that a Democratic majority could have brought about. They have been masters of the use of Cloture Votes to control the direction of the Senate.

Regardless of whomever we support for our Party's Presidential Nomination, it is imperative that we all put those feelings and divisions aside for the purpose of working together to get as many Democrats elected to both the House and Senate, especially the Senate.

If the Democrats have the 60 vote majority in the Senate, the votes will be there to override any veto that a President McCain could make to stop the agenda for the people. With the 60 vote majority, the Republicans can no longer block the legislative agenda to bring change to this nation.

I can not impress upon everyone the high stakes that exist that require us all to speak out and support the Democratic candidates for the US House and Senate in your respective Congressional Districts and your US Senate races.

Though we are divided deeply on the Presidential Nomination process, we have within us the ability to join together to not only retain control of both houses of Congress but to also make some major gains in the number of seats Democrats control in both Houses. So our work is cut out for us. Let's get down to work and bring forth a Democratic majority that is "VETO PROOF".
Yesterday, I told you about the little work of fantasy and fiction that Exxon Ed Whitfield calls a website. We looked at how Exxon Eddie threw away $106 billion dollars in corporate welfare, while casting the deciding vote in denying crucial funding for the programs our veterans were promised, and depended upon.   Read More »
Our campaign is picking up steam and plowing right along at Ryan for Kentucky. It has been a great couple of weeks. The best part is that Exxon Ed Whitfield has noticed he has a little competition too. Although he didn't have a website during the whole 2006 election, this time he feels the need for one!! Well, welcome to the race Eddie, Now lets look at some of your site:

I live in Kentucky's First Congressional District. This year, we have a great Democratic Lady running for our Congressional seat, Heather Ryan. Well, we are not the only first district in the south that has an awesome Democratic lady running for their Congressional seat. In the First Congressional District of Louisiana another stellar Democratic woman is running to expand our Congressional majorities. Her name is Gilda Reed.   Read More »

I believe we are going to elect a Democratic President this year. Voter turnouts in the primaries and caucuses so far have shown that America is simply fired up about our great Presidential candidates. Why shouldn't they be? I mean, our party should look at pride at the candidates we put forth this year.   Read More »
