It's tempting to begin taking the likelihood of Obama's victory just a bit for granted. The polls look good. McCain and Palin are flailing, and Ted Stevens is headed for jail. The Republicans have started their blame game.
But it's dangerous to assume that the election is over, or to settle for a narrow margin. Here are four reasons to keep doing all we can to keep working (and get our procrastinating friends to finally donate and volunteer) so we can create broadest possible mandate for Obama and his Democratic allies.

Americans should be reminded that we, the people, are this country and that is our leadership focus of this strategy. Country simply follows or waffles under McCain.
It couldn't have been said better. This is perfect...
Joe Biden is my homeboy's homeboy

When the war happened. I was crushed. This too was one more example of the Democrats failing ME. The Democrats failed ME. They are useless and not worth promoting. It was angry, it was defeatist, it was depression; and it was all about ME. And how the Democratic party had failed ME. Read More »

Far too often Washington politicians use fear and divisiveness to distract the electorate and avoid talking about the real issues. In this critical election, I believe the American people will discover more that unites rather than divides our communities. A single mother living in a rural community and a college student in a small town are united by their struggle to afford a quality education. A factory worker and a small business owner share the same concern about the outrageously high cost of healthcare. I am running for Congress in the North Carolina 5th District and, when elected, I will work to bring our district and our country together while we tackle the tough issues. I will always be truthful about where I stand.
The Roy Carter for Congress campaign slogan, "People Above Politics," is not just a marketing phrase. It is a principle that has guided my life and a belief that drives my passion for public service. I believe that the measure of a good member of Congress must be more than just an accounting of votes cast. What matters most is what those votes stand for and whether or not they were used to better the lives of people. Read More »
I'm writing to invite you to join me and your Maine Democratic brothers and sisters in a "Caucus for Change" on February 10th.
NOW is the time to elect a strong leader who will take our convictions of honest leadership, good jobs, retirement security, social justice, and a healthcare system that works for everyone not only to heart - but to Pennsylvania Avenue.
As we all know, this election year is heating up to be one of the most exciting in a long time. For the first time since I can remember, there is no "golden child" to take the Democratic nomination for president and people are voting(in record turnout) for the candidates of their choice - not even the all knowing pundits have a handle on what's going on in the 2008 race for the White House.
Now I know, what you may be thinking - by the time Maine has its caucus on February 10th it will all be over. But, I disagree.
What if the race is so close that one state (like Maine) could be the deciding factor in delegate selection?
The way things are going so far, this could be the year we go into the National Convention without a clear choice of who will lead our party against the Republicans!!! It could happen!! Maine voters could tip the scales!!
Are you excited yet? Well, I am and I want to share that excitement with you!
So, I invite you to take an active roll in the process, Caucus, talk to your friends, get them interested if they aren't already and get out the vote!! Vote for the candidate of your choice and be counted - We can't wait - Feb 10th will be here before we know it.
Join me and other likeminded Democrats in my group Democrats for ME on PartyBuilder to meet and network with others throughout the state who want to make a difference in our political landscape from Augusta to The Hill (Go Allen!) to the White House.
Go to www.democrats.org to find out more about the grassroots 50 State Strategy!
Thank you!!
Together We Are Stronger!

Openning/Registration day delegates were serenaded by a Mariachi band that walked the corridors of the convention. Every one knew who that music represented when they heard it.
The core group of the Grassroots Florida for Richardson organizing committee showed what true team-work and hard work by a few people can do. Our candidate's area was staffed all throughout the convention, with MANY people stating that they were still undecided, or that they felt the the Governor was their second choice. When asked why, they always said that he has more experience than anyone else. We always asked, if he has so much experience, why are your supporting .....? Why wouldn't you vote for the best? They usually gave us an impressed and somewhat confused look at that time. Our self-created tee shirts started showing up on many peoples backs or in their backpacks for later use. Our labels turned up on MANY peoples' jackets. Bumper stickers were taken with promises of immediate use. And more than one person flipped from undecided into the Governor's camp.
Although we have had NO direction from New Mexico since the pledge was made, it seemed that the Hillary and Obama camps had organizers and professional help with their outreach in Orlando. We built momentum while there, while their followers made noise and chanted.
I think that it's safe to say that Governor Richardson's campaign had the third largest prominence at the convention. There was very little support shown for Sen. Edwards, in events, shirts, banners, yard signage or buttons. He was relegated into the Biden/Dodd/Kucinich level of support.
We are looking to fight for every vote from now to January 29th. With momentum building it's possible to see the Governor breaking into the top two in Florida by then. Get you yard signs out and tee shirts on. Make people know that the man with the best pedigree and ideas should be their primary candidate, rather than their secondary.
Thank You! From the bottom of my heart!
Because you do this, I am able to decide if the issue becomes a part of my soapbox. Does it support or erode my position on the issues that are at the top of my priority list? Because It is here for me to find, I can use it as proof of my position.
I am one lucky voter. I am a very lucky activist.
I am able to listen to you.
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GRASS
(Grassroots that is.)
This article is the first in a series that I plan to write on current status of the various grassroots movements across our Nation to End the War and Elect Anti-War Candidates to Congress. I will research what people in other states are doing to raise up democracy.
This progressive movement is drastically changing our country and our democracy for the better from 2008 and going forward for hundreds of years. The Democratic party is swelling its ranks. For the past 30 years we have been a party that was primarily identified in the press as a party of educated, intellectual, liberal, bleeding hearts. But today the working people are returning to our fold. These are by and large people who were not necessarily Republicans but those who felt so disenfranchised that they didn’t even vote. I believe that the Democratic party of the future will rise to be the cross-section of Americans that is once was. What a glorious thing to have our country restored to its rightful place as a leader among nations.
The current grassroots movement is far more potent than the anti-war movements of the ‘60’s for two reasons:
1. Many of its leaders are over 50 year of age. In fact, many of them are well into their sixth decade. Thus this movement has the benefit of maturity, organization, shrewdness and experience that was lacking in the antiwar movement of the ‘60’s.
2. They have the Internet to connect them. Without the Internet, and without organizations like MoveOn, we would not have a Democratic House and Senate today. In case you don’t realize it, what happened in many of the states (such as Missouri, Virginia and Pennsylvania to name a few) was that people from other states not only called constituents in these states, urging them to get out and vote, many of them, like me, sent money to their campaigns, even though we were not residents of those states. (That’s where the support of older folks like me come into the picture. Unlike extreme youth, we also have the power of our pocket books.)
Read More »The time has come to elect someone in CD-10 that will actually act as a representative of the people, instead of as a representative of the president, as Michael McCaul has done since his election in 2004 when the district was created (gerrymandered) by Tom Delay and the republican party.
When we met last week, for a brainstorming session, we were not certain what we wanted to accomplish as a group. As we proceeded with our brainstorming session, however, it became clear that the best way we could help the Democratic Party in Travis County was to ensure that our efforts were focused towards one end. Additionally, we decided that the focus should be directed towards a local race, that would benefit those of us in Travis County, all Texans and really all Americans.
After discussing all of our options, we decided that really the only option that fit all three criteria, was to support Dan Grant.
So how do we want to help him? Over the next fourteen months, Dan will require as much of a grassroots support network as can be mustered. What we would like to do, is not only provide a base of volunteers for the campaign, but also work to spread the word, so that people who may not be as plugged is as us will be able to learn who Dan is, and add their support to the campaign.
Really we feel that we can, as a group, start spreading the word, so that by the time the election is here, there will be no doubt about Dan's success. And so, I ask you to check out Dan's website, www.dangrantforcongress.com, and join us in this movement to remove Mike McCaul from office, and elect a true representative, Dan Grant.
I'm excited to see that we already have some interest in the group and I hope it grows to become an effective tool we can use to start moving Houston, Texas, and America back in the right direction.
Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or comments. I hope to see you all at our first meet-up dinner. I wish the food could be free but I, probably like you, didn't get to see those Bush tax-cuts.
I hope you're as excited as I am for 2008, and if not, come on out and join us - you'll be glad you did.
As for the title "Unity," I know I am new so please excuse and ignorance I display, however it seems that there are many groups in the area with more or less the same goals. Is there a mother group of sorts, or are there really many smaller groups with no firm connections? It may be that many of the groups have overlapping memberships, but I would just like to figure this out.
Now to business, I received an email yesterday (probably the same one you all received) about joining or creating county groups. By virtue of being the first one to check the email (or one of the first), I was granted the opportunity to start the Travis County Group. And so, I am sending out the "ping" of sorts, to see first of all when and how we (being the Travis County Group) can get together to figure out our strategy for the next 15 or so months. In addition, for anyone who reads this blog who is not in the Travis County Group, how can we bring our groups together so as to make the biggest impact possible?
Thanks, and its great to be back in Texas.
Doug
I read on some random political blog that if Barack Obama makes it into the later stages of the election process, he expects to be able to get many million more black voters to the voting booths. Being able to influence someone to the point of actually getting them to vote is an enormous task and I applaud his efforts but one group I've yet to see targeted much are the younger voters or "just about to be voters" group. I truly feel this younger generation WOULD vote for Obama and in some ways, would hugely benefit him even if they won't be old enough to vote. The sheer amount of time kids spend online.. on myspace, forums, etc could end up giving him that edge he needs if only he could take a step towards actively pursuing them and their concerns. In the meantime, people have taken it upon themselves to create images like the above one which are surely going to be passed around and might end up jump starting his "coolness" factor.
I'm sharing the text of the resolution here and a few other places to get the ball rolling. Read More »
