Howling Winds
As I watched my son, dapper as they come, walk down
Our walkway and into manhood, what I remember most is
The rushing wind. I'd seen such winds before, but
Never like this--my old foe was pulling up trees by
The roots.
So I watched, but I watched alone.
As the winds raged on and the mighty palms bowed, a
Single leaf from our Winter bare Ficus Tree
Held tough against the ferocious storm; It fought
Valiantly against the angry gale, as though hanging
On just to witness the changing of the guard.
So I stood, but I stood alone.
Like that solitary leaf, all my life I've fought the
Ferocious winds, and now they've returned, this
Mighty foe, poised to seize the hopes and dreams of
My only son.
So I cringed, but I cringed alone.
But then, posterity glanced back and squared its
Shoulders, beat back hopelessness as it trudged
Through fields of ivy, then spread its wings and rode
Those howling winds over yonder mountaintop...
So I wept, but I wept with a crowd.
God Bless America.

Many people believe the Nostradamus fortells what is to come. They consider the lost books to be a glimpse into the future. Perhaps in a way, it does just that. I have spent many years fascinated by the pictures and the stories. And today I have finally cracked the secret Code.
It's a History of oppression... And the age of enlightenment... Christianity gains popularity, and most who follow the Old Testament begin following the teaching of Christ. It's important to point out that Christianity as it is taught today is not the teachings of Christ. Christianity was rewritten in order for the old ways to remain in power. If you read the book of Nostradamus, and understand why he wrote in secret, it was because History was not suppose to survive throughout the ages. Many years of manipulating the people of the world to fall in line with a new version.. A new chain of events. But this isn't a story of Jews vs. Christ, rather a story about Man vs. Man.

What a great idea.
When there is a stain of black blood
Within the rich red of the American flag
In my tears see no longing for a distant land
But the source of anguish
Of abuse by your oppressive heavy hand
I commence my pledge of unwavering loyalty
Confirmed in my blood
Within the independence from British royalty
Boasting of freedoms not always afforded to me
With my hand placed at my heart
I proudly sing your songs of liberty
Symptoms of persisting pain forever remains
Though my ankles lay bare
Far gone is the weight of shackles & chains
My soul, my value you attack
With signs of colored only
I am forced to the bleak back
With my schools and community still sub par
I cling to antidotal notions
Promoting strength and unity to propel us far
I contest the barriers of all that I believe
Challenging our Constitution and concepts
To the true greatness we can achieve

People just LOVE to quote this old saying,
"Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it"
Well, they better stock up on classroom supplies because as the song goes they gotta go back , back , back to school again. There are many lessons that were never learned and it looks like the Millennials are about to teach America another history lesson. A lesson on War , Civil Rights , Human Rights , Progressive Activism and many other things. I wonder what the modern day version of the College Democrats/ Weatherman Underground Splinter Whatever Group is gonna be like. Well, I do know they will be more organized because they will be SOBER ( not engaging in group sex and drugs on the floor of a van headed to Woodstock that's for dayem sure ) And the whole "bombing and blowing up " stuff is a little too tarded so, there will be none of that.
There will be no blaming the Troops and spitting on them when they return home from a war we oppose. Because many of them will actually have served in Iraq. There will be no egging on the Police and calling them PIGS , although , they do like the idea of calling the Media VULTURES. They'll borrow that. I don't think this new....what did y'all call it? Oh , yeah (Revolution) is going to be anything like the Baby Boomers was at all. I think , this time , it will be actually effective and not stop the process , but push it forward.
I think , that instead of using violence and being on the "outside" of the government and corporate system , trying to force change , Millennials will become a part of the system and get into places of power so they can set the rules. It won't be easy. I mean , just like the Baby Boomers had a generation that would not let them in , Millennials also have a generation that refuses to allow them in. Ironically, it's the Boomers. That's really funny when you consider it all.
But the Millennials do have some advantages that the Boomers didn't have when they sought to create CHANGE in America . For starters , they have the Play Book on what NOT to do . They are also very politically savvy and intelligent . It must be all the Starbucks Lattes that's keeping them alert. They will stay away from the drugs as they will have learned that you can't really make good decisions when you're strung out in "Strawberry Fields" talking to "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds".
But, I look forward to the mark that the Millennials will make on History.

Who Played the First Dirty Tricks in American Presidential Politics?
By Rick Shenkman
Mr. Shenkman is the editor of HNN. This essay is adapted from his book, Presidential Ambition: Gaining Power at any Cost.
Until the 1840s dirty tricks had been all but unknown in American politics. The first presidential election in which dirty tricks were played was in 1844. One involved a newspaper story put out by the boss of the Whigs, Thurlow Weed, about an alleged slaveholder named Roorback who supposedly came across some of Democrat James Polk's slaves cruelly branded with Polk's initials--proof allegdly that Polk had sold slaves to raise money for his campaign. It wasn't true. Another involved an attempt by the Whigs to demoralize leading Democrats; to persuade the Democrats that the campaign was going badly the Whigs sent out a letter to that effect supposedly written by some high party muckety-muck. Still another involved the printing up of phony ballots; the ballots mixed up the names of Democratic and Whig electors, which was intended to confuse voters.

this hbo miniseries is receiving critical acclaim. for those of us who love history and politics, this is must-see television. "john adams" premieres tonight at 8pm eastern on hbo.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that we are going to see a major change in who can and will run for office, but there this also a battle between schools of thought regarding American politics. Unlike the last two elections were exciting and they have left their marks on American history, but this is the election where we see an actual change between how candidates conduct themselves, how they address their supporters, and most of all how they discuss issues and deal with their opponents.
Now, first and foremost, there are three battles being waged on the “American Battlefield” instead of just two. You have the fight between those who are in major support of what could be called a Bush-style government, and those who want to distance themselves as far from that policy as possible. Within the ranks of the Republican Party, including the Republican candidate John McCain, there are those who feel that forcing the will of the American government by force and questionable methods (i.e. unwarranted wiretapping, threatening use of arms upon other nations, disrespecting other religions, and inducing fear and terror upon the populace, and not to forget use of torture) is justified because of the results of their actions.
They feel that by flexing their political, economic and military muscle, they can make the world do their bidding. Much like how a bully forces someone smaller than them to give the bully their lunch money. And not only that, but these people actually think that the world will both do so willingly, and they will thank us for doing so. After almost eight years of following such a policy, most Americans, and those of the world do not feel that this is the case anymore.
Second, there is a battle between what one could call dirty and clean politics. To be specific, during the last two elections; the Bush camp constantly smeared anyone who would oppose their views and policies. McCain was accused of fathering a black child during the 2000 primary, accused John Kerry of lying about his war record, leaked information about CIA operative while they were in the field, and continually used the blood, bones and sacrifice of those involved in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq to get what they want.
During the initial stages of this election, there were various claims that Barack Obama was not only Muslim, but that he was somehow tied to terrorists and more importantly Osama bin Laden. Hillary Clinton used the worst fear of every parent in a recent television advertisement in order to obtain what appears to be pyrrhic victories in Ohio and Texas. Using fear and terror to gather public support has constantly proven to not only be short-term in their effectiveness, but damages the people’s trust in their government and those who have supposedly made an obligation to serve the people of their country.
All the while, Sen. Obama has tried to maintain the idea, that what should be addressed should the issues, the problems plaguing our country, our neighbors, and what will have to be dealt with by our children when we are no longer on the scene. Granted he has not been perfect, he made a personal swipe at Sen. Clinton before the Ohio/Texas primary, which might have damaged his image a bit. However, compared to Clinton and McCain, whose supporters have been pulling the same style of attacks, he is trying to make a real change to the Presidential process.
Finally, the third battle is not merely with parties, or campaign tactics, but with ideals. Despite there being two other Presidential elections within this century, this is the first one that is involving 20th versus 21st century politics. With Barack Obama, we see someone who is bringing in fresh new ideas that have been out on the side and ignored for the pursuit of maintaining the status quo. Obama, is not only trying to fix the problems that are plaguing the country now, but to deal with threats that will come to us in the future.
Instead, of using the argument of “past experience” he is making the claim that we need someone who is not used to the old ways of the world. This is because the old world is no longer here. Have new enemies, new friends, and more importantly a more diverse and unique world that cannot be handled in the manner that it is being used today. We can no longer maintain alliances with those who supply money and materials to those who mean us harm, solely for business and personal reasons, we cannot use the methods of fear and terror to make others do what we want. And more importantly we cannot side with people who bring us trouble and strife simply because they are our only real friends in the region. A person might go so far as to call that “soo 20th century”.
Sadly Clinton and McCain are both trying to use their “experience” to try and defeat Obama a continue the world on it’s present course. One which looks to bring more of the same trials and tribulations with them. So now we come to an historical cross roads, down one path we can see a future where the ideals and values of the American nation rejuvenated and growing faster than ever before. Where those of every race, color, religion, and creed are judged by virtue and character. Where the world looks upon us as the model nation and strives to be like us. Or we can go down the other road, where we march to the drums of war, causing strife with ourselves and with those around the world. Where our government spies on anyone they wish without warrant or reason, where those on the street face desolation and eternal strife from lack of proper education and living accommodations. Where the methods of the last century are still used to define this one.
I say it’s time we grew up and begin anew. And the first thing to do to start this off is to completely abandon the training of thought that has been driven into our minds, come up with new ways of diplomacy, science, religious thought and for once in this century actually try to reach that utopian state of mind that we have been trying to reach for so long.

Simply put, there are any number of reasons why whites voting for a white candidate because of race is altogether different than blacks voting for a black candidate because of the same. For African American voters, voting for Barack Obama--a man of color who actually stands a chance of winning the Presidency--is an opportunity to participate in a major historic moment. Read More »

Friends & fellow Democrats:
I've been thinking lately about Texas; for multiple reasons. Thinking about Texas started me remembering one of our truly "great" education Presidents, Lyndon Baynes Johnson.
For an American history lesson borrowed from LBJ, continue on to the extended posting.

MCCAIN IS VERY VINDICTIVE. HE WILL STOP AT LITTLE TO EXTRACT HIS POUND OF FLESH
In 1989 Daddy Bush nominated John Tower for Secretary of Defense. One of the people who spoke out against the nomination mentioned seeing Tower arrive drunk for an air base inspection.
John Tower was McCain’s buddy. McCain managed to get the guy's confidential medical records (which included psychiatric info), went to the floor of the Senate and read them into the record.
This action, if McCain had not been on the floor of the Senate, could have gotten him sued and possibly prosecuted for violations of confidentiality of medical records.
(The information about Tower being drunk was no surprise to members of the Senate. I doubt there was a one among them who did not knew the John Tower was an alcoholic. He had shown up drunk in Congress on more than one occasion.)

You’re slipping, Hutch. Your lack of customary objectivity has finally betrayed your loyalties. I came to your site to comment on your Huffington Post article, "What Will Obama Do When There's No Hillary Firewall?", only to find another article that was even more partisan. In the first article you dug up everything you could think of that you indicate Republicans will be able to use against Obama in the November election--and you were right. In fact, you were so effective that you all but built the Republicans a tailor-made swift boat. You’ve rendered the Republican Party a tremendous service in that article. As a result of your article alone, they can fire all of their researchers--you’ve done all of their research for them. And now I find in your most recent article, “What to Make of Obama’s Strange Bedfellows, Namely Blacks and White Males.” In that article you imply that Blacks and White males have come together in a sexist coalition against Hillary to support Obama. In your final paragraph you say the following:
“Even if unconscious gender bias affects only a relatively small percent of men in a close contest between a male and female candidate in which the two are rated fairly evenly in competence, qualifications and experience, the refusal of many men to vote for her could harm her candidacy. Female candidates offset the male bias by getting solid support from women voters.”
But I think you made a few typos in your last sentence. Didn’t you mean to say,
“Female[s][should] offset the male bias by [giving] solid support from women voters”? Read More »
let's also remember the great senator ted kennedy's work in making this holiday possible.
IMHO when it comes down to it, ALL THREE would be agents of incredible, history-making change for America.
