Also, though, "I don't know when we're going to win Oklahoma."

The former Vermont governor, who recently announced he would stepping down as chair of the Democratic National Committee after a second successful election cycle, gave a brief speech and then fielded audience questions read by a moderator.

Most of his remarks addressed strategy, for example advising Democrats to declare their anti-poverty, pro-fairness values proudly. On matters of policy, he did what chairmen do, relentlessly plugging President-elect Barack Obama's plans.

---
complete copyrighted story at link above

Special note to Oklahomans going to Missouri this weekend

If you [or anyone else you know in Oklahoma] is interested in going to Missouri this weekend to volunteer in one of their many Obama HQs, be sure to let them know of the car-pools meeting on Saturday 25-Oct-08 at 7:30 am in Oklahoma City and joining up at 10 am in Tulsa.

FIRED UP, AND READY TO GO TO MISSOURI! (Drive for Change)

http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/gprct9

Team, I know that some of you would like to travel in carpools to Joplin, Missouri to assist in turning the tide in a very competitive battleground state for Barack Obama. That is why I’m asking you all to please meet-up together in the rear parking lot at the Oklahoma Democratic Headquarters at 4100 N. Lincoln BLVD., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma no later than 7:30AM on Saturday 10/25/2008. I will be there to give you a nice little send off. You should be able to park your vehicles there and proceed in your carpools to Joplin, Missouri. Please make sure the doors of your vehicle are locked and secure. The Oklahoma Democratic Party, entities in residents in the building, or individuals are not responsible for the security of your vehicle. I do know that a group out of Tulsa will be leaving at 10AM. Please refer to the links below, and reserve your time so that we will have a good idea who all will be coming. This is a wonderful time for all of us, and I personally like to thank you all for the time and support that you have put forth on this and all efforts toward getting Barack elected President. I can honestly say that this has become one of the happiest times of my 38 years, and your energy has kept me going. Thank you all for what you do.

GO TO JO' TO DO MO FO' BO #3 (Drive for Change)

http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/gs5swr

Some Tulsa-area volunteers plan to go to Joplin, Missouri, to campaign in that battle-ground state for Barack Obama [BO]. A car-pool leaves from Oklahoma City about 8 am and joins with us about 10 am on Saturday 25-Oct-08 at the Tulsa County Democratic Party HQ, 3930 East 31st; please park across the street or BEHIND the HQ. Some may return that night and others may stay over-night in free housing provided by the Obama HQ in Joplin and return late on Sunday 26-Oct-08. Tulsa volunteer Jack Francis has offered to drive and even pay for gas and tolls for the first 4 firm over-night volunteers that make commitments to go. Future road trips with the same details will leave Tulsa for Joplin every Saturday until the general election: November 1.
More tax Burden on Oklahomans

We need to fix out bridges and roads and not add more to our tax payers. Legislators have said, we must pass the (AWA) Adam Walsh Amendment or loose 10 percent of federal grant monies. Well here is the cost of spending MILLIONS to save a few dollars. We need a serious open debate on this subject. Please read the article “Federal Domestic Spending Bill Cuts Crime Funding Program by 67 Percent,” at the web site below. http://www.cfcoklahoma.org Oklahoma.

Oklahomia's cost of Implementing SORNA ……..$ 5,867,138

Oklahoma's Byrne Money 2006……………………………….$2,790,472

Oklahoma's 10 percent of Byrne money……………………..$279,000

Oklahoma 67% Byrne cut leaves 33% or…………$92,085 So, in order to save $92,085 dollars Oklahomans will have to spend a minimum of $5,867,136.

This is an additional burden on tax payers. These figures do NOT take into account these ever increasing costs.

 • New personnel

• Software, including installation and maintenance • Additional jail and prison space

• Court and administrative costs

• Law enforcement costs

• Legislative costs related to adopting, and crafting state law.

Virginia determined that the first year of compliance with the registry aspect of SORNA would cost more than $12 million.

• The first year of implementing SORNA would cost the Commonwealth of Virginia $12,497,000.

• The yearly annual cost of SORNA would be $8,887,000. Adjusted with a 3.5 percent yearly inflation rate,4 Virginia would be paying more than $10 million by 2014. • If Virginia chose to comply with SORNA, the state would spend $12,097,000 more than it would if it chose not to implement SORNA and forfeit 10 percent of its yearly Byrne grant, a loss totaling approximately $400,000 Office of Justice Programs, “JAG State Allocations,” April 23, 2008. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/BJA/grant/07JAGstateallocations.pdf

Randy Lopp, treatment subcommittee chairman of the Oklahoma Sex Offender Management Team says it best, “Most people who know anything about this are frustrated. It is just not helpful — the laws as they are now,” ”I think if the general public understood the research, they would be willing to back the legislators to change the laws to make more sense and to protect children, because the laws as they are written are not protecting children,” he said. “They are doing more harm than good.” http://www.cfcoklahoma.org

Postcards for Votes

Postcards for Votes is a grassroots and volunteer driven program that involves women supporters writing postcards to other women asking for their votes for Barack Obama. Participating is easy - buy postcards and postcard stamps; write a positive message about why you support Barack and ask that the women vote for Barack too.

A new mom in Maryland wrote postcards from her hospital bed after having a baby, with this message:

"As a new mom, I took my state's primary more seriously than ever this year. I wanted to vote for a candidate who could not only help working families through the tough times we're facing, but also strengthen our nation, morally and financially, to ensure that our children won't face -- or foot the bill for -- these same tough times. That is why I voted for Barack Obama. His economic policies are sound and his commitment to working families is unmatched among the remaining candidates. From my growing family to yours, I wish you the best and hope you'll join me in supporting Senator Obama."

You go girl!

Obama Slaps McBush

From the New York Times, May 17, 2008

"Senator Barack Obama responded sharply on Friday to attacks on his foreign policy, linking President Bush and Senator John McCain as partners in "the failed policies" of the past seven years and criticizing them for "hypocrisy, fear peddling, fear mongering." ... Mr. Obama at first joked that he wanted to respond to "a little foreign policy dustup yesterday." But he quickly made it clear that he regarded the exchange as anything but funny, criticizing Mr. Bush and saying Mr. McCain "still hasn't spelled out one substantial way in which he'd be different from George Bush's foreign policy."

"In the Bush-McCain world view, everyone who disagrees with their failed Iran policy is an appeaser," Mr. Obama said. ... It's time to present Iran with a clear choice," Mr. Obama said. "If it abandons its nuclear program, support for terror and threats to Israel, then Iran can rejoin the community of nations. If not, Iran will face deeper isolation and steeper sanctions." The administration's policy has merely "empowered Iran," he said, with its unmitigated hostility. As a result, it is now Iran, not Iraq, he added, that "poses the greatest threat to America and Israel in the Middle East in a generation."

"Our Iran policy is a complete failure," Mr. Obama said. "And that's the policy that John McCain is running on." ... The Obama campaign said it wanted to move strongly and swiftly, guided by lessons learned from the 2004 campaign. "There is no question that when the president on foreign soil launches a political attack we need to respond with the facts and with force," said Bill Burton, national spokesman for the campaign. Mr. Burton said he expected many such confrontations between Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain. "The truth is that there are many, many real differences," Mr. Burton said."

Edwards Shows Unpredicted Strength in Nevada

So, what about the thought that this is a two-way race, and that Edwards has no chance in NV and SC? What about this that Edwards cannot compete in the Feb. 5 states? Well, in this very unpredictable primary, where one hundred million dollar celebrity candidate has gotten her inevitablility crushed in Iowa, and yet another hundred million dollar celebrity candidate got his inevitability crushed in New Hampshire, Nostradamuses everywhere better watch their predictions according to a new poll out of Nevada.

Greetings

Greetings All,

In searching for a group nearby, I came across very few here and those that were here had so few members. I wanted to create a group where people in Oklahoma, whether they be Democrats or Undecided can come here to discuss the issues, the candidates, any questions they may have and to share information. I didnt want to create it for any one candidate because, as I do have my preference, I still believe that it is important for those of us in the Party to unite, regardless of that candidate that we back.

It comes down to the same basic principle....CHANGE. We need a change in this country more than ever. The US needs a reason to believe in their president again without so many reservations, there should be a United front of all Americans behind their president! Now, more than ever, it is time to elect someone who can pull this country together, to remove the Republican party who has caused so much disorder here and vote a Democrat who truely believes in change...it is time to UNITE!!

If you can only imagine a woman as the most powerful person in the world...

In 2000 I was one of those women who said Hillary can't win. I have spent many hours trying to figure out why I did not believe in Hillary. I have recently read a book titled "The Case for Hillary Clinton" by Susan Estrich and it has crystallized my thoughts on why Hillary will win! Read it for yourself - some of the ideas that had a big meaning for me follow:

If you can only imagine:
The CNN Anchorman announcing:
For the first time in history, Hillary Rodham Clinton, a woman, has been elected President of the United States of America

What will change:
Would it matter if Hillary Rodham Clinton were President?
Have you ever been the only woman in a meeting at work? Do you think that will change if Hillary is President?
Do you think more women will be placed in positions of power in our government if Hillary is President?
Do you think the world will change for the better if there are more women in power in government and business?
Would it matter that the US Supreme Court justices were appointed by a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton?
Would it matter that the United States Cabinet were appointed by Hillary Rodham Clinton, a woman?
Did Geraldine Ferraro change what women thought they could accomplish?
Did sexual harassment in the workplace change after Anita Hill accused Clarence Thomas?
Did the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment help change how women were treated?
Did the world benefit?
Did women benefit?
Did you benefit?

Have you ever been told:
You are a cold witch at work? .
You are too soft and need to be more aggressive?
Hillary will be called the "frost queen" - so what?
She will be vilified for standing beside a hound dog of a man. So what?
She will be held up to a different standard than a man for your vote. So what?
She will be held up as a supporter of better health care for all Americans. So what?
She will be held up as a supporter of women's rights. So what?
She will be held up as a supporter of early education and easier access to birth control and a belief that the access will reduce the number of abortions. So what?
She will be held up as a supporter of ending the Iraq war and focusing on terrorism in Afghanistan. So what?
She will be held up as someone who will make the air cleaner. So what?
She will be held up as a supporter of children and public education. So what?

Hillary Rodham Clinton has the brains, the skills, the background, the dedication, the education and yes, she is a woman.
I know of no other woman that could possibly win the Presidential bid - in my lifetime - I want this to happen in my lifetime.
I know of no other person more qualified in this race for the Presidency than Hillary Rodham Clinton and that is why I will vote for her to be the President of the United States of America.

A critical time is approaching - February 5th is a milestone in this campaign. The race for president unfortunately is a race for the money to run the campaign. With money all things become possible. Pledge your support for Hillary Rodham Clinton click here - http://www.hillaryclinton.com/contribute/5MSN

Labor Day Parade

Scores of Tulsa Democrats went to Henryetta OK yesterday for the perennial Labor Day Parade. There were contingents from most Tulsa labor union locals, including the Teamsters, CWA, and TWU, just to mention a few. Of course, the Oklahoma Federation of Democratic Women brought their float and members to the parade, too. The TCDP Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary were marching along with other Tulsa participants. State Senator Andrew Rice delivered a rousing a speech at the community center BBQ luncheon where Lt. Gov. Jari Askins was spotted in the crowd.

Early poll leaders -- Oklahoma

A poll published today by the Tulsa World has given some early indicators of who/what matters to Oklahomans in the 2008 election. Clinton & Edwards are tied for the state's Democratic vote. Guiliani was favored by 32 percent of the state's Republicans, followed by McCain at 23 percent. The War in Iraq was the state's biggest election issue; while, honesty & integrity was the first characteristic that an Oklahoma voter looks for in a presidential candidate. Apparently, Oklahomans believe Guiliani is both honest and has a high integrity because he was the only candidate to score higher than a 50 percent on his approval ratings between both parties.

The Tulsa World article can be found at:
Run Andrew Run

Oklahoma State Senator Andrew Rice is exactly what Oklahoma needs. I believe he could defeat Jim Inhofe in 2008 and be a productive member of the Senate unlike Inhofe. In a recent issue of Congressional Quarterly, Rachel Kapochunas wrote about Rice and a few other possible Democratic Senate candidates in Oklahoma. The article was also published in the NY Times.

Senator Morgan and Representative Morgan released the following letter announcing their joint endorsement of Senator Edwards:

Dear Fellow Oklahoma Democrat,

Our nation faces critical issues both here at home and abroad, and we need a real leader to get our country back on the right path. With the 2008 Presidential Preference Primary in Oklahoma less than a year away, we believe it is important to support a candidate who can transform America, which is why we are supporting Senator John Edwards for President.

After a thorough review of our many qualified candidates it is clear that Senator Edwards has earned our support. Senator Edwards has the ideas and vision to lead our country and restore America as the moral leader in the world. He will always fight to improve the lives of working Oklahomans and every working American.

Senator Edwards has been a friend to our state and to the causes we hold dear. He has spent more time in Oklahoma than any other announced or potential candidates, and he understands and can effectively communicate with our values-driven, populist electorate. During the 2006 election cycle, he worked tirelessly to support our efforts to elect Democratic majorities in the State House and Senate. He attended fundraisers on behalf of both the House and Senate caucuses, profiled our members on his website, and repeatedly offered his personal time and service when it could be of use for fundraising, candidate recruitment and messaging.

We believe it's time to return the favor to Senator Edwards. Not only will we be lending our name to his effort, we will also be working on the ground locally to extend our volunteer organizations to his campaign.

As the leaders of the Democratic Party in both houses of the state legislature, we both offer Senator John Edwards our endorsement and our full support. We hope that all of our colleagues in both caucuses join us in supporting Senator Edwards â?¦quot; the strongest candidate for President in the Democratic field.

Sincerely,

Senator Mike Morgan
President Pro Tempore

Representative Danny Morgan
Minority Leader
