            <description>A lesson lost on many Americans is the idea that democracy is a practice rather than a culture.   The greatest contributors to American thought, from Jefferson to Tocqueville, from Lincoln to John Dewey, all very well understood this obvious fact.  And American exceptionalism, if it ever did exist, certainly today is not defined by our electoral institutions.  Almost every nation in the world holds elections of some sort.  Some of these are completely fraudulent, others somewhat questionable, but those considered most legitimate usually are found in nations with a long-standing culture of democratic values.</description>

            <title>Michelle&#039;s First Date</title>
            <description>&lt;p&gt;This vignette touched my heart, because it has such relevant symbolism.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;In the clips last night, Michelle Obama spoke of finally giving in to Barack&#039;s request for a date. She had been refusing his advances because she was very proper in the top law firm of Sidley &amp;amp; Austin, where she was a full fledged attorney and Barack was just a summer intern.&amp;nbsp;Barack surprised Michelle when he&amp;nbsp;took her, not to a fancy restaurant, but &amp;nbsp;to a church basement where he gave a speech to steelworkers who were laid off when the local steel mill closed.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;Michelle said Barack riveted everyone in the basement with a magnificent speech about how America actually was, and how America should be.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The clip showed a picture of the burly white steelworkers raptly listening to the young African American orator, demonstrating that the races were cooperating even back then.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I grew up in the same neighborhood as Michelle Robinson Obama, actually in between her house&amp;nbsp; and Rev. Wright&#039;s church. I&amp;nbsp;personally knew many of the steelworkers who forever lost high paying jobs to the slave labor wages of Indian and Chinese steelmills, and feel quite strongly about fair trade instead of free trade.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Those hard working men&amp;nbsp;never, ever got jobs with pay&amp;nbsp;remotely near what they earned in the mill, for very hard work.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Micehlle felt the same thing I did, and said that speech in the church basement made it all over, the end! She was in love with Barack.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;A symbolic lesson for us all, united.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

            <title>Obama&#039;s LABELS--aren&#039;t you tired of them?</title>
            <description>Moderate, liberal, far left, far right, centrist...I am so tired of hearing those labels.  Labels!  We label each other...Black, white, redneck, ghetto, democrat, republican, liberatarian, independent, nigger, whitey, woman, man, bitch, ho, elitist, snob, white trash, Jew, Muslim, Hispanic, Arab, jap, chink, hippie, yuppie, etc. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I&#039;m absolutely sold that, as a people, we need to recognize those for what they are...labels.  I have never met any two women who thought the same; never met any two muslims or jews who thought the same.  I&#039;ve never met any two hippies or yuppies who thought the same and have yet to meet any two whites or blacks who think the same.  They&#039;re just labels. Call me what you will...now prove it?  What does it mean?  and So what if you&#039;re right?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Barack Obama is Black...he&#039;s a man...he&#039;s white...he&#039;s African...he&#039;s a bastard...he&#039;s young...he&#039;s inexperienced...he&#039;s an elitist...blah blah blah.  So what?!?!?!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The only thing I care about is whether he&#039;ll fulfill his promises...work with Congress and the Senate to fix Bush&#039;s MESS!  I believe that he&#039;ll bring our troops home as soon as possible.  I believe he&#039;ll work with, my GIRL, Hillary Clinton to ensure Universal Healthcare, and I know he&#039;ll bust his ass to tap an alternative fuel source so we aren&#039;t relying on Saudi Arabia and OPEC for their Oh-so-precious-oil! &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What&#039;s more, I believe deep in my heart that my black son will have the perfect role model to which he can finally attribute some positivity beyond that of likes of sports greats Lebron James and Michael Jordan.  And hopefully, unlike Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, America will allow Barack Obama to live long enough to prove, as a matter of principal, that black people are as intelligent and deserving of equality as any white person.  I fume knowing that oftentimes when my son walks into an office building with his beautiful blackness all some see is a nigger.  Well, times are changing and again, we need to each toss those labels aside. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We need to get over ourselves.  We&#039;re never gonna make a difference if we first don&#039;t learn to accept our differences.  Egos, fears, and all they bring with them are the obstacles that we&#039;re all afraid to face...look in the mirror and look beyond your skin and bones...look beyond the makeup and pimples.  Who&#039;s there?  &lt;br /&gt;

            <title>Please all weigh in</title>
            <description>I obviously missed allot last night and this morning..... &lt;br /&gt;
Anyways I have been trying to catch up and one thing I keep noticing is a few who are calling for party building jumping onto topics that mean nothing against the party, Obama, supporters, and just saying something rude or putting that last person who posted or commented down. WHat is going on? I understand that not everyone will kiss and make up but I am seeing allot about troll police and party unity and so on..... so I guess my question is.....&lt;br /&gt;
Are you a better democrat if you call for peace and unity and then attack someone you think is a troll?&lt;br /&gt;
The problem with this troll police and everyone who wants to weed out trolls is everyone has their own ideas on who are  &quot;trolls&quot; so some people are being called trolls by others and then others are like &quot;no wrong guy that one over there&quot; &lt;br /&gt;
Can we all agree to just not talk to each other or reply if we don&#039;t like them?</description>

            <title>United we stand.  United we will win!</title>
            <description>&lt;p&gt;Aesop, I believe, said, &quot;United we stand, divided we fall.&quot; That is what our Democratic Party is facing. It is time that we put our past behind us and begin looking forward to November. I was torn up until election day on who to vote for. By the time the primary came in Indiana I could see the writing on the wall that Sen. Obama was going to be the nominee. I congratulate Sen. Clinton on a wonderfully run campaign. She is, and would have been, an immensly strong and inspirational candidate.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;BUT.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Sen. Obama has won the nomination and it is time for us all to work as hard as we can to make sure we send a message loud and clear in November: It is time! We have had enough! Senator Obama is our choice! I urge everyone who is feeling discouraged, hurt, even spurnned to look into the future and invision 8 years of John McCain, 8 more years in Iraq, 8 more years of tax cuts for the wealthy, 8 more years of Republicans in the Oval Office! We cannot afford to let our differences get in the way of our true goals. So. I ask you this my fellow Democrats: United we stand. OR Divided we fall. ???&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We &lt;u&gt;MUST&lt;/u&gt; put our differences behind us.&amp;nbsp; We &lt;u&gt;MUST&lt;/u&gt; unite behind Barack.&amp;nbsp; We &lt;u&gt;WILL&lt;/u&gt; win in November!&amp;nbsp; America cannot afford to stay on this course any longer.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

            <title>Dear Clinton Supporters</title>
            <description>&lt;p&gt;You are not alone in the feelings you are experiencing right now. You are not alone in interpreting the events of this nomination fight in the light that you do.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I think that were the shoe on the other foot, Obama supporters would be equally unmoored; in search of answers. This was a hotly contested nomination. The most hotly contested nomination in the lifetimes of most of us, even the history of the party over the last 100 years.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It would be unreasonable and unnatural if there were not some bruised egos.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

            <title>The Real from the Fake we will soon know</title>
            <description>&lt;p&gt;Will those who claim to be Hillary fans get behind her statements today and respect her wishes, or will they continue to promote divisiveness and disrespect to the DNC, our nominee and our party?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;One thing is certain, after Hillary&#039;s speech today, it will be a lot easier to tell the real Democrats from the Republican Trolls who have invaded our blogosphere.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;After Hillary&#039;s speech today, not only will you be disrespectful to&amp;nbsp;our party, you will also be disrespecting Hillary if you continue to refuse to unite behind Obama and our party.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In the end, you have three choices just like the rest of us:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1.) Vote Republican&lt;br /&gt;
2.) Vote Democrat&lt;br /&gt;
3.) Vote for a 3rd party /vote for write-in = not voting&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ramifications:&lt;br /&gt;
1.) You have chosen to vote against everything that Hillary and Barack stand for&lt;br /&gt;
2.) You will fight to achieve Barack and &amp;nbsp;Hillary&#039;s goals&lt;br /&gt;
3.) You&#039;ve just wasted your time and gas money&lt;/p&gt;</description>

            <title>We Need Time to Heal</title>
            <description>Dammit! Most Democrats are still seething about 2000, when Al Gore won the popular vote but lost to George W. Bush after a Supreme Court ruling...the recount that resulted in another recount! They&#039;re still irked, too, about 2004, when many think that their nominee John Kerry should have won at a time when the nation was split over whether Bush was managing the Iraq war wisely. I keep thinking about the horrendous lines of voters (seen from above by helicopter cameras at 11:30 p.m. that November night!) in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Akron, Columbus, and Toledo...so few voting machines for and underestimated turnout! Ohioans still claim it was fixed by the Republicans! By the numbers, everything points to a big Democratic rebound in 2008. President Bush&#039;s approval rate, as well as the numbers of Americans who think the country is on the right track, has hit historic lows. The War in Iraq is a Republican mess! People everywhere are ready for Change! Ah, that word &quot;Change&quot; brings a warm rush of hope. The nation is reeling from a sluggish economy and mired in a deeply unpopular war, two factors that usually have turned voters away from the incumbent White House party. In addition, the presumptive Republican nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, who&#039;ll turn 72 in August, is the oldest major party candidate ever to seek a first White House term. I did say OLD! That plus the fact that he&#039;s got enough baggage to keep the Democrats busy trying to figure out just which item to reserve for their &quot;Swiftboat&quot; attack! Still, Democrats enter the general election less than confident that their party can heal the wounds of the long and divisive primary battle between Sens. Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Clinton of New York in time to defeat McCain. Part of the concern stems from what&#039;s been evident in primaries throughout the winter and spring. Obama routinely won big majorities of votes from black people, younger people and higher income voters. Clinton got white conservatives and the majority of women, however, and exit polls in state after state found that big chunks of her backers are inclined to support McCain in November. Obama, they said, is too liberal and too inexperienced. What the party must do, and they haven&#039;t yet, is recognize quickly and demonstrate that it understands the needs of the Clinton constituency. I can&#039;t see that as an easy task until we know what Clinton&#039;s intentions are...we have to wait till this Saturday. We must realize NOW that we&#039;ll have a tough time selling the party if that group feels underappreciated/under-represented. Sure, if Clinton embraces Obama and stumps vigorously for him and the party this summer and fall, many of her supporters will rally. I was reminded earlier today that they&#039;re not just puppets on a string. Some Democrats are demoralized by past defeats. Others, however, think memories of 2000 and 2004 will motivate the party faithful in an extraordinary way and allow the wounds from the Obama-Clinton duel to heal quickly.             <title>Chill out already!  (By Marie Goodwin)</title>
            <description>If Barack Obama chooses Hillary Clinton as his Vice President I would support that ticket and work hard to win the General Election. I dont think its our place to urge Obama to pick Clinton by petitions or an email campaign. I sure dont believe that Obama needs to put her on the ticket to appease the angry woman who voted for her and now feel dissed. Both Obama and Clinton are very smart people who know what they want. Obama has run an excellent campaign. They know the numbers and what they are looking for in a Vice President. Clinton needs to fully support Obama and campaign for him across the country. She needs to say she will not contest Florida and Michigan at the Convention. Additionally, she should not hold her army hostage from Obama for the Vice Presidency spot. Clinton should lead by example. The party will unify if she does what is right. I say chill out and let them work this out. We are Democrats before we are supporters of one candidate.</description>
