The American promise....yea, right!!

In America we are guaranteed equal right and privileges under the law right? As long as you are a law abiding citizen you have the same rights as your neibor. At least in theory and on paper. From the birth of our nation we have not followed this creed so well. We break our own rules. Segregation and discrimination of blacks, voting right for women. But our country has made great strides to equalize our society. African Americans now have all the rights and opportunity's as white people. A women can now vote for who she thinks can lead our nation. But people are we all equal?

If you have been paying attention to the news lately and looked past the presidential election you might have noticed that a small law was passed. A law that blatantly stripped the right of American citizens. You might have noticed that that law allowed a majority to take the rights away from a minority. I thought this kind of behavior was over, I thought America was better than this. I guess I was wrong. Because the America I thought I knew would have never allowed Proposition 8 to pass in California. Th America I thought I knew would have never taken away right of thousands of hard working American citizens. In case you live under a rock and don't know what proposition 8 is this is what it is. Proposition 8, passed Nov , 2008, officially bans gay marriages in California. 52% of Californians think that just because they don't agree with gay marriage that they can strip the rights of people away. Prop 8 is wrong, any way you look at it. Even a religious person who believes gay marriage is wrong should not have a say in who a person can marry. It's horrible and it sickens me, the America I once knew is gone. But there is hope, right now all across America people are coming together to protest this atrocity. And they need your help. You can help bring equality to California. I know what your thinking, California is California. But I will say this, it starts in California and spreads to the rest of the country. You can help!

Please visit http://www.noonprop8.com/ to see how you can do your part. Thank you for your time.

Howling Winds (Barack Obama)

BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE

Howling Winds

As I watched my son, dapper as they come, walk down
Our walkway and into manhood, what I remember most is
The rushing wind. I'd seen such winds before, but
Never like this--my old foe was pulling up trees by
The roots.

So I watched, but I watched alone.

As the winds raged on and the mighty palms bowed, a
Single leaf from our Winter bare Ficus Tree
Held tough against the ferocious storm; It fought
Valiantly against the angry gale, as though hanging
On just to witness the changing of the guard.

So I stood, but I stood alone.

Like that solitary leaf, all my life I've fought the
Ferocious winds, and now they've returned, this
Mighty foe, poised to seize the hopes and dreams of
My only son.

So I cringed, but I cringed alone.

But then, posterity glanced back and squared its
Shoulders, beat back hopelessness as it trudged
Through fields of ivy, then spread its wings and rode
Those howling winds over yonder mountaintop...

So I wept, but I wept with a crowd.

God Bless America.

A Stately Old Ship

The stately old vessel
Limps weakly towards port
As the rolling storm begins.
Vermin gnaw its rotting hull,
Destroying from within.
Colors that once flew proud and strong
In distant and exotic lands,
Now flutter shamefully,
Tattered and torn,
Reflecting the flaws of man.

With cheers of fading greatness,
True patriots were scorned;
Demagogues were lifted aloft,
While the ship of state we mourned.

But the old vessel was
Made of sterner stuff
By a different kind of man;
Storms and vermin and rotting hulls
It can easily withstand.
Waiting in port, a fresh new crew
Eager to take command;
A new coat of paint, and fresh colors await,
A proud ship of state's next stand.
McCain's V.P. Choice

After months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience. (1)

Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest. (2)

She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. (3)

Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools. (4)

She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change. (5)

Political Principles - What's so funny?

Is it me, or do people actually think that Principles mean nothing, am I to believe that this is a major consensous? Are you really willing to elect a person based on popularity vs. principle? If you ask me, if people actually voted based upon Principle in every election since we've existed as a United protectorate of the states, then perhaps we wouldn't be saying things like... "Please sir, Can I have some more?" when it comes to politicians.

If you ask me, and I realize that's probably the last thing you might do at this point, Candidates would have to run their campaign on Credit. An those people willing to vote for you will share in an equal portion of your campaign costs.

Let's see then who would vote for Obama, McCain, or even Clinton.

And now a question to you... What's the difference between political parties, and religion?

Nothing. They are both belief based organizations. Neither one considered to be right or wrong, except based upon personal beliefs.

Conventional Proposition - Amending the Constitution

I wrote up a proposal for an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which clarifies original intent by the founding fathers (which I believe a great deal of my suggestions would be considered well within reason.) and the Principles set forth in the Constitution that we've been so conveniently disregarding.

hopefully the copy paste function works pretty well.
Reports of Mosque Surveillance Concerns Muslims

http://religion.info/english/articles/article_385.shtml

Source: Religioscope
Author: Richard Cimino

While there have been allegations in the past of government investigation of mosques on issues relating to terrorism, the recent report, first featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper, is said to be the first confirmation that surveillance is taking place.

An article in the Los Angeles Times (May 29) reports that information about the alleged spying surfaced in a case about classified files concerning terrorism that were stolen from a secure office used by military and civilian law enforcement officials at Camp Pendleton. Some of these classified records referred to the surveillance of Muslim communities in Southern California, specifically, the Islamic Center of San Diego. The records alleged that the mosque had been monitored as part of a federal surveillance program targeting Muslim groups, according to the Union-Tribune article.

The FBI's Plan to ‘Profile’ Muslims

http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/07/10/muslim_profiling/index.html

Source: Salon
Author: Juan Cole

The U.S. Justice Department is considering a change in the grounds on which the FBI can investigate citizens and legal residents of the United States. Till now, DOJ guidelines have required the FBI to have some evidence of wrongdoing before it opens an investigation. The impending new rules, which would be implemented later this summer, allow bureau agents to establish a terrorist profile or pattern of behavior and attributes and, on the basis of that profile, start investigating an individual or group. Agents would be permitted to ask "open-ended questions" concerning the activities of Muslim Americans and Arab-Americans. A person's travel and occupation, as well as race or ethnicity, could be grounds for opening a national security investigation.

The rumored changes have provoked protests from Muslim American and Arab-American groups. The Council on American Islamic Relations, among the more effective lobbies for Muslim Americans' civil liberties, immediately denounced the plan, as did James Zogby, the president of the Arab-American Institute. Said Zogby, "There are millions of Americans who, under the reported new parameters, could become subject to arbitrary and subjective ethnic and religious profiling." Zogby, who noted that the Bush administration's history with profiling is not reassuring, warned that all Americans would suffer from a weakening of civil liberties.

Let's Talk about the "Church Issue"

When JFK ran for President in 1960, one of the "big problems" for a large number of voters was his church. The allegation was that JFK would be more loyal to his church than to his country. Kennedy's response at the time was to remind people that we have a little tradition in this country called "separation of church and state." This tradition came from our founding fathers who turned their backs on royal absolutism from Europe which was typically supported by the church. They realized that religion can be a toxic element if allowed to dominate the public square, since religion is intrinsically divisive. Most religions not not content themselves as simply promoting righteousness but rather proclaim themselves to be the unique path to eternal salvation. This type of dogmatism, tolerable in one's personal life, is clearly not the way one can forge a consensus among a diverse people.

So wisely, our founding fathers did two things regarding religion:

2032

To America- My name is Zach Larkin. I live in Walnut Creek, California, and this is the first post in my blog which will follow my presidential campaign in 2032. following is my official announcement, named"The Divide". "Thousands of years ago, the Roman Empire crumbled. Decades ago, the Soviet Union collapsed. Why was this? Government corruption and a sharp divide in idealogies. Sound familiar? I think so. It's happening today. Where? I'll tell you where. It starts with a U and has a huge lie in the first word. The "United" States of America. A huge cultural, psychological, and political civil war has been dividing America for years. The combatants? Democrats and Republicans. Sure, there is the Green party, the Independents, and who knows how many other minor parties, but let's face it. They don't stand a chance. It's a two-party system, you need to pick a side or butt out! That's the view the media has taught me. That's the view that I will probably alter as time goes on. Just like the Constitution. It was meant to be amended. Which side am I on, you ask? I'll tell you which. I'm a Democrat, and a proud one. I believe that the GOP has almost created a corrupt, dystopian, and altogether ugly heck-hole. Not America, of course. The image of America to other countries, the world, the Diverse States of the World. I's a mess. Don't get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with a two-party system. It's great that the common people can choose a candidate with ideals that mirror their own. What bugs me is the way candidates and the media depict and treat their opponents. So what if dozens of years ago they were caught DWI, or if they cheated on their spouse? Humans aren't perfect! If we wanted a perfect candidate we'd vote for another species, but as far as I'm concerned, that's not going to happen. I wouldn't want my country's decisions made by Fifi or Mr. Whiskers (who, by the way, are very good pets that live in my aunt's house). Anyway, what I was saying was that nobody's perfect, and I wish that Republicans, and also some Democrats, would just stop slinging mud! Got it? Good! The Bush administration has usurped the power of the American government for the executive branch. It's a fact. The Legislature and Judicial departments were virtually stripped of power...but finally, America's seeing reason! Thanks to the recent Senate and House Elections, the Democrats have taken control of Congress. This country is certainly headed in the right direction. America NEEDS a President, and WANTS a President who is going to strive for the rights of all Americans and People of the Diverse States of the World. I have heard the call. Ring, Ring! I, Zachary D. Larkin, am officially announcing my candidacy for the office of President of the States of America. Hopefully we can put the United back into the States. (Due to certain laws, I am running in the year 2032. It's a long time, but we'll be ready.)" I'm Zachary Larkin, and I approve of this message!

New York Muslim’s Struggle for Justice in America

http://atlanticfreepress.com/content/view/4016/32/ Source: Atlantic Free Press Author: Stephen Lendman Yassin Aref is a 37 year old Albany, New York resident and one of many Muslim victims of police state justice in post-9/11 America. They've been hunted down, rounded up, held in detention, kept in isolation, denied bail, restricted in their right to counsel, tried on secret evidence and trumped-up charges, then incarcerated as political prisoners or deported to where they face possible arrest and torture. Because of his faith and ethnicity, Aref was victimized by US "justice" in a post-9/11 climate of fear. He's an Iraqi Kurd who emigrated to the US as a UN refugee in 1999 with his wife and three young children. He's now in federal prison but committed no crime. He's also the author of a poignant memoir/autobiography titled "Son of Mountains: My Life as a Kurd and a Terror Suspect." He wrote it in custody at Troy, New York's Rensselaer County Jail after his wrongful conviction in October 2006.

Muslim Activists Seeking Probe of Reported Surveillance

http://www.pe.com/localnews/rivcounty/stories/PE_News_Local_C_muslim30.426eaa8.html Source: Press-Enterprise Author: Paige Austin A civil-rights group and a coalition of Muslim activists headed by a Corona man called on Congress this week to investigate a report that military and law enforcement officials stole surveillance records of Southland Muslims from Camp Pendleton. The request stems from a news report that military officials and law enforcement members of the Los Angeles County Terrorist Early Warning Group illegally took the top-secret documents from the base's Strategic Technical Operations Center. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Gary Maziarz has been court-martialed and convicted for his role in the thefts. While the details of the surveillance and the alleged theft remain largely unknown, the incident provides confirmation that the military and law enforcement groups have been gathering information about local Muslim communities, said Michael German, policy counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union's Washington Legislative Office.

U.S. MARINES ACCUSED OF PROSELYTIZING IN FALLUJAH

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2004444827_iraqgospel29.html Source: McClatchy Newspapers Author: Jamal Naji and Leila Fadel At the western entrance to the Iraqi city of Fallujah on Tuesday, Muamar Anad handed his residence badge to the U.S. Marines guarding the city. They checked to be sure he was a city resident, and when they were done, Anad said, a Marine slipped a coin out of his pocket and put it in his hand. Out of fear, he accepted it, Anad said. When he was inside the city, the college student said, he looked at one side of the coin. "Where will you spend eternity?" it asked. He flipped it over, and on the other side it read, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16."

About Political Cartoons

I like and appreciate political cartoons--even those that depict people whom I favor in an unfavorable light--particularly if they are well-drawn. Political cartoons are unique to a democracy--after all, it is dangerous to make fun of the King or Queen. A lot of historians say that political cartoons began in the mid 19th century in American with Thomas Nast, but that's not true. Political cartoon began at the same time that our democracy began to emerge.

Here is an early American political cartoon originally published in Benjamin Franklin's Pennsylvania Gazette News paper. As far as we know, it is the earliest political cartoon in America and it appeared on May 9, 1754. It was part of one of Ben's articles about the present disunited state of the British Colonies. I don't know why it only shows 8 colonies. (Maybe there wasn't enough type to spell the other five colonies or maybe he lumped them all together under "NE" for New England.
