AP Poll - Setup for a Stolen Election?

AP Poll - Setup for a Stolen Election?

AP Poll "Tightens" Race to a Point

Michael Collins

The Associated press came out with a remarkable poll Thursday. It claimed that the presidential race had tightened from the consistent leads Obama has shown over the past weeks to become one of those "too close to call" national elections. Their poll, conducted by German polling firm GfK, showed 44% for Obama and 43% for McCain.

How could this be? In the Real Clear Politics average of major national polls, Oct 24, Obama's average lead is 7.5%. The four national polls conducted on the same days as the AP poll show an average 9.2% Obama lead. The polls after the AP "tightening" effort shows an 8.7% Obama lead. Clearly the AP-GfK poll is an exception or outlier, as those are called.

Yet the AP presents this as news, not opinion.

Poll: Obama struggling to win over Clinton voters

Poll: Obama struggling to win over Clinton voters

AP - Tue Sep 23, 2:55 PM ET

http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-hillary-s-voters

Graphic at http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/nws/elections/ap_ypoll_clinton_backers.jpg

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's support from backers of Hillary Rodham Clinton is stuck smack where it was in June, a poll showed Tuesday, a stunning lack of progress that is weakening him with members of the Democratic Party in the close presidential race.

An Associated Press-Yahoo! News poll shows that among adults who backed his rival during their bitter primary campaign, 58 percent now support Obama. That is the same percentage who said so in June, when Clinton ended her bid and urged her backers to line up behind the Democratic senator from Illinois.

The poll shows that while Obama has gained ground among Clinton's supporters — 69 percent view him favorably now, up 9 percentage points from June — this has yet to translate into more of their support.

In part, this is because their positive views of Republican presidential nominee John McCain have also improved during this period. Those supporting McCain have also edged up from 21 percent to 28 percent, with the number of undecided staying constant, the survey showed.

Clinton backers' reluctance to support Obama helps explain why he is having a tougher time solidifying partisan supporters than McCain. Overall, 74 percent of Democrats say they will vote for Obama, compared to 87 percent of Republicans behind the Arizona senator. About nine in 10 Clinton supporters are Democrats.

The problem that supporters of Clinton, the New York senator, have with Obama seems to flow from their measure of him as a candidate, not from issues. From establishing a timeline for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq to abortion to canceling tax cuts on the rich, their views of the importance of issues are virtually identical to Democrats in general. ...

Poll: Views still differ sharply by race

Poll: Views still differ sharply by race
AP - Mon Sep 22, 10:59 AM ET
By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer
http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-race-in-america

WASHINGTON (AP) - Since the nation's birth, Americans have discussed race and avoided it, organized neighborhoods and political movements around it, and used it to divide and hurt people even as relations have improved dramatically since the days of slavery, Reconstruction and legal segregation.

Now, in what could be a historic year for a black presidential candidate, a new Associated Press-Yahoo! News poll, conducted with Stanford University, shows just how wide a gap remains between whites and blacks.

It shows that a substantial portion of white Americans still harbor negative feelings toward blacks. It shows that blacks and whites disagree tremendously on how much racial prejudice exists, whose fault it is and how much influence blacks have in politics.

One result is that Barack Obama's path to the presidency is steeper than it would be if he were white.

Until now, social scientists have not closely examined racial sentiments on a nationwide scale at a moment when race is central to choosing the next president. The poll, which featured a large sample of Americans - more than 2,200 - and sophisticated survey techniques rarely used in media surveys, reflected the complexity, change and occasional contradictions of race relations.

---
complete copyrighted story at link above

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.

--- complete copyrighted story at link above

     July 10, 2008 David Harper at (314) 630-0359

Voters in Missouris 7th District Say
Incumbent Blunt Not Focused on People Like Me

SPRINGFIELD, MO. â" By 47% to 41%, likely voters in Missouri's 7th Congressional District say incumbent Republican Congressman Roy Blunt is not focused on the needs of "people like me," according to a poll conducted by Voter Roll Call for the Monroe for Congress Committee.

72% of Democrats, 59% of Independents, 57% of Moderates and 59% of those who make less than $40,000 a year say Blunt is not focused on their needs.

While 47% of voters in the District say Blunt should be re-elected, almost as many, 41%, say it is time for a change.

65% in the district say the Economy in Southwest Missouri is weak.

47% say that things in Southwest Missouri are off on the wrong track, while only 36% say things are headed in the right direction.

A majority of Moderates and a plurality of Independents say they will vote for the Democrat in November.

The writing on the wall is clear, stated Democratic Congressional Candidate, Richard Monroe. After twelve years of partisanship and attacks, southwest Missourians are looking for a Congressman who will work across party lines to end the gridlock and make real progress.

Richard Monroe recently retired from the United States Attorneys Office after twenty years of honorable service as a Federal Prosecutor.

Monroe went on to point out that earlier this year Representative Blunt voted against establishing an Office of Congressional Ethics. Continued Monroe, as a Federal Prosecutor, I dealt with a broad range of Federal crimes from health care fraud to drug enforcement, immigration enforcement to financial frauds, murder and everything in between. Not only will I support restoring integrity and ethics to Congress, Ill fight to restore them everyday Im in Washington.

Voter Roll Call is the non-media polling arm of SurveyUSA.
Public Policy Polling Shows Obama with a large Lead in Ohio

June 16,2008

You all know how I feel about polls . . . But this one provides a lot of information that makes it easy to check the validty.

OBAMA KICKS OFF THE GENERAL ELECTION WITH A 50 TO 39 LEAD OVER JOHN MCCAIN IN OHIO.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_Ohio_61708.pdf

Note: This is a PDF so give it time to load.

Also since this same survery showed McCain leading 49 to 41 in March and since it is a PUBLIC poll as opposed to a corporate owned one it had more credibility with me.

Solving this problem permanently

The Florida and Michigan problem is about power and brinksmanship and mischief. The DNC as the right to run its affairs as it wants to and it has to have a process to handle state parties and governments that want to interfere with its ability to determine who the voters want to be their next president. The whole point of delegate representation of state voters is that representative democracy is the best form of government, so we want to use that form of government for selecting the nominee of the party. When the state apparatus does not cooperate, the party must have a mechanism to get around that apparatus. If there is no mechanism to do this, then the states can safely ignore the DNC and the result will be chaos.

So my solution is to have the DNC ignore the primaries that it considers to have violated the rules it set up for primaries. To select representatives the DNC must pay for a polling organization to poll the voters in Florida and Michigan. Based on the results of the poll, it should assign delegates to the candidates. It is certainly possible to buy a poll in both states that would be accurate to within 1%. The votes of super delegates should be eliminated as an incentive for those state party leaders to follow the rules of the DNC.

So if we have to change the rules in the middle of the game, make a set of rules that we can live with and that actually solve the problem at hand.

A Simple Question For Everyone

This a really simple hypothetical question that I pose to my fellow Democrats, as well as Independants and any lurking Republicans. This isn't about any candidate, so you don't even have to state who you are for or against. This is a question about YOU, the American voter. You, the responsible citizen who cares enough about his country to take the time to get involved and participate in the process, no matter what side of the aisle you're on. My question is this:

How would you feel if for no fault of your own, you were being denied a voice in that process? ie; You registered, showed up and voted on voting day like you always had before. But this time, after the election was over, your vote, your voice, your time and efforts where ignored and you were made to feel like you had no right to vote at all.

How would you feel?

This is a simple question and has nothing to do with any candidate, so please no soapboxing or grandstanding about anyone's pros or cons. Simple question, simple answrs please. How would you feel?

Poll Watchers-State Poll Statistics.

From my understanding there is a need for poll watchers needed for the polls on 02-05-08, and if you are interested you need to contact either me to pass it on to the person that got me into it here in Missouri, or you should contact someone locally ASAP. I do not know which states are in need of poll watchers, or exactly which polling places need them, but I will post a list of states below that are voting on 02-05-08.

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah

The results are in and.....

Well the results are in and it is astounding. Not only do some of us feel that Asher should blog at DNC, but he should also talk to girls. Imagine that...two things at once. Oh well. I have to admit the results might be a little skewed, but hey, it's in fun anyway. The thing I can't believe is I haven't gotten a single point in days and I am still moving up in the standings...all I have to do now is post to 1800 groups and I am in there!!!!!!! I would like to say this was fun but it was difficult trying to keep this at the top of the poll rating against such staunch competition like...the bouncing Obama sign from Percy, among others. I so want to go to his house and break that file.

THE MOST IMPORTANT POST OF THE DAY

The results for the Asher poll to date are as follows:
What should Asher spend his nights doing

34% (15) Blog on DNC/Partybuilder
22% (10) Blog on the Rupublican website (I don't have an account but Asher does)
11% (5) Edit Wikipedia entries.
22% (10) Talk with girls that call his radio blog.
9% (4) All of the above.

It's amazing, just as many people think he should be a republican as talk to girls. Wonder if there is too much room for interpretation in the question.

Link

This explains that, in a contest against a Republican candidate, Fmr. Senator Edwards would be most likely to succeed, having a margin of difference of 25 points (60% to 35%), specifically against Fmr. Governor Huckabee but not without implications across the board against any other Republican candidate.
