National Security

I agree with the (The Democratic Party National Security Issues) statement that U.S. National Security interests require that we be strong at home
if by that statement we mean economically. A technoglically driven military establishment like our's requires a strong economy to fund the development and acquisition of it's technology.

Who's Interests does Bob Schaffer Serve?

Bob Schaffer is the Republican opponent to Democrat Mark Udall in Colorado's political race for Wayne Allard's U.S. Senate Seat. Today, Huffington Post published some fact finding by Sam Stein that indicates Bob Schaffer's oil interests in Iraq may not have served U.S. interests in Iraq.

This story is a good indication that if elected Bob Schaffer wouldn't serve the interests of people in Colorado and the United States either.

Obama Speaks at Foreign Policy Summit

Go here to view a video of Obama speaking yesterday on security.

You can see his view on Guantanamo as well as on fighting terrorism.

He answers McCain and the GOP's attempts to picture him as soft on security. I think it is great.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/amandascott/gG5nCq

From an AP Wire Source:

"Obama convened a new group of advisers on security policy that included prominent backers of his defeated primary rival Hillary Clinton, including former secretaries of state Madeleine Albright and Warren Christopher.

The Illinois senator also met with about 40 retired generals and admirals for an overview of the US armed forces, as he parried a second day's offensive from the McCain camp about his plans to fight Islamic extremism.

"I refuse to be lectured on national security by people who are responsible for the most disastrous set of foreign policy decisions in the recent history of the United States," Obama said after the security advisers' meeting."

Obama is living up to my high expectations

Almost daily, Obama shows me one more thing to prove that he deserved my vote in the primary and he deserves my vote in November. One of the things that I believed he would do when President is to put coalitions of experts on various subjects and issues such as the economy, security, energy, the war, etc. AND unlike the decider, he will listen to and learn from their counsel. Obama is living up to my expectations today. He is not even waiting until 2009 when he is in the White House. Obama will be ready BEFORE day one.
Obama Announces Senior Working Group on National SecurityThe following is from Sam Graham-Felsen and was taken from Obama for America
Jun 18th, 2008 at 10:56 am EDT

CHICAGO, IL – Senator Obama today announced the formation of his Senior Working Group on National Security, a group of advisors that he will consult on a regular basis between now and the election. Obama will meet with the group for the first time today in Washington, DC for a wide-ranging discussion of the immense challenges faced by the United States in the wake of the disastrous foreign policies of George Bush.

“Each individual here today has provided extraordinary service to our nation in the executive branch and Congress. Several have been advising my campaign for some time. We’re also honored to be joined by some of Senator Clinton’s senior advisors. In the months to come, we’ll be reaching out to others, as well as leaders in Congress,” Senator Obama said. “The stakes in this election could not be higher. John McCain wants to continue George Bush's foreign policy which has made us less safe, less respected, and less able to lead the world. It's time to change course. It's time to end the war in Iraq responsibly, refocus on Afghanistan and al Qaeda, and renew our global leadership so that we can tackle the huge challenges of the 21st century.”

Later today, he will also meet with a group of nearly 40 retired Admirals and Generals to discuss the state of our armed forces, and the challenges facing our military in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. This meeting is part of an ongoing dialogue between Senator Obama and current and former military officers of various ranks and views.

Senator Obama’s Senior Working Group on National Security includes:

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright Senator David Boren, former Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Secretary of State Warren Christopher Greg Craig, former director of the State Department Office of Policy Planning Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig Representative Lee Hamilton, former Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder Dr. Tony Lake, former National Security Advisor Senator Sam Nunn, former Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Secretary of Defense William Perry Dr. Susan Rice, former Assistant Secretary of State Representative Tim Roemer, 9/11 Commissioner Jim Steinberg, former Deputy National Security Advisor

“When I am this party's nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq; or that I gave George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; or that I supported Bush-Cheney policies of not talking to leaders that we don't like. And he will not be able to say that I wavered on something as fundamental as whether or not it is ok for America to torture â€" because it is never ok… I will end the war in Iraq… I will close Guantanamo. I will restore habeas corpus. I will finish the fight against Al Qaeda. And I will lead the world to combat the common threats of the 21st century: nuclear weapons and terrorism; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease. And I will send once more a message to those yearning faces beyond our shores that says, "You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now.”

â€"	Barack Obama, Des Moines, Iowa, November 10, 2007

and now Clinton:

Americans are ready for a leader who will restore America's reputation in the world, and Hillary is prepared to lead America back in the right direction.

The next president's most urgent task will be to restore America's standing in the world to promote our interests, ensure our security, and advance our values.

America is stronger when we lead the world through alliances and build our foreign policy on a strong foundation of bipartisan consensus. As president, Hillary will lead by the words of the Declaration of Independence, which pledged "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind."

We know we need global coalitions to tackle global problems like climate change, poverty, AIDS, and terrorism. And to keep our country safe, we need to start engaging our enemies again. During the Cold War, with missiles pointed at us, we never stopped talking to the Soviet Union. That didn't mean we agreed with them or approved of them. But it did mean we came to understand them -- and that was crucial to confronting the threats they posed.

Hillary knows that America must remain a preeminent leader for peace and freedom, willing to work in concert with other nations and institutions to reach common goals. Hillary has put forth an aggressive plan to support public schools in developing countries in an effort to achieve universal primary education for the 77 million children around the world who aren't in school because they are too poor.

Both candidates have a lot in common in PRINCIPLE, but in PRACTICE Obama is right and Clinton is off!

Furthermore, Senator Clinton is obviously not as disturbed on concerned about TORTURE and how it actually does much more harm to our interests and identity as a country than any minor good! Most people tortured are innocent, most of those who are not innocent who are tortured are so fanatical they actually tell us things that are not entirely true anyway, and the few that do spill all the beans in the end tend to tell us things that we already know and nothing that is truly going to prevent future attacks!!!

The MOSSAD knows this! The British know this!! The Russians...well...the Russians are another story!!!

Senator Obama knows that there are much more creative ways at getting to the truth and obtaining invaluable information that can save lives! Anyone who tries to convince you that TORTURE works or that it is sometimes ACCEPTABLE is actually lying to you and has an agenda almost as bad as those whom TORTURE is meant to work on! TORTURE DOES NOT WORK! TORTURE INVITES DICTATORSHIP! TORTURE IS UNCONSITUTIONAL!! TORTURE PUTS OUR TROOPS AT GREAT RISK AND ENDANGERS ALL AMERICANS!!!

Why America needs John Edwards as our next President

The clamor for the White House is on. Clinton, Romney, Obama, Thomson, Huckabee, McCain and a fountain of other well known Washington insiders, many steeped in years of cozy relationships, cloak and dagger histories of deal making and inside political trading, not focused on Americas well being, but aimed and purposed for the retention of power or extending ones influence. Political dynasties somehow permitted by the electorate to remain, in many cases, at the expense of Americas democratic health and vitality. We have permitted old money, old influence and all the political experience and seasoning it could buy to get us where we are today, drowning in two wars and a nine trillion dollar debt, trillion with a "T".

Human Rights, or Security?

This question came out of the Democratic CNN/YouTube debates on 15 November 2007. I was amazed at the solid backing by which security received overwhelming support. I sat bewildered at the notion that we can somehow know security, and I mean real security, without facing the question of human rights. This question is actually a which-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg type of question.

Hillary doesn't care about our Privacy as Citizens

You think that she does?

then why isn't her name on this list with the other democracts? Bills S. 236 and S. 495 (entitled the Federal Agency Data Mining Reporting Act of 2007 and the Personal Data Privacy and Security Act of 2007, respectively), are co-sponsored by a small group of senators.

Sadly, Senator Clinton has cosponsored neither. That is simply shameful.

Hillary Clinton is no progressive. If you want the truth, look at her congressional records. She is about as progressive as George Bush--only more dangerous because she appears to be more intelligent.

 Link

(Oct. 17) - Security screeners at two of the nation's busiest airports failed to find fake bombs hidden on undercover agents posing as passengers in more than 60% of tests last year, according to a classified report obtained by USA TODAY.

Screeners at Los Angeles International Airport missed about 75% of simulated explosives and bomb parts that Transportation Security Administration testers hid under their clothes or in carry-on bags at checkpoints, the TSA report shows.

At Chicago O'Hare International Airport, screeners missed about 60% of hidden bomb materials that were packed in everyday carry-ons - including toiletry kits, briefcases and CD players. San Francisco International Airport screeners, who work for a private company instead of the TSA, missed about 20% of the bombs, the report shows. The TSA ran about 70 tests at Los Angeles, 75 at Chicago and 145 at San Francisco.
To kick off this blog, Question 1 for delving into concerns about security of yourself, your family, your company, or your community, "Where do I begin?" An excellent starting point is at www.schneier.com to read some of Bruce Schneier's op-ed pieces. He has also written an excellent book, Beyond Fear, that addresses a multitude of security practices in clear, easy-to-read language. Learning the difference between real security and "security theater" can help one see how we citizens are asked to support worthless programs in the name of security. A couple of the most worthless of these programs are the Real ID and its partner, the National Animal ID. I will probably address both of those in future entries. They are associated with the sucking sound of our tax dollars spinning down the drain.

"The Water Front"

I think I will call a little news letter about water related items "The Water Front" I think it fits as one of the issues we as American's should be concerned with is water.

I visited with congressman Todd Platts (R) PA 19th and spoke with him about my ideas of a National Water Bank system. Though I debated each hurdle he placed about the need of such a system he still insisted that it was a local, regional, state and private supplier concern. He acknowledged that the federal government has played parts in developing some water resources. He sited that there was no immediate market driven forces that indicated the need for such a system.

Why I am a Democrat

I have always been a Democrat. If my definition of the word Democrat were in the dictionary, it would simply say -The People-.

I remember being in my 5th grade class at Sunset Elementary school in La Puente California when, one day in 1963, our School Principal, Mr. Hackleman, came into the room. He was sort of crying. He told us that our President, John F. Kennedy (JFK), had been mortally wounded in Dallas Texas. He sent us home.

As the next few years went by, we were all taught about the greatness of John F. Kennedy and how he had a dream for America where we would all be free and happy, where all Americans would enjoy the fullness of liberty promised to us by our U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. He talked about a strong America, second to none; whose primary goal in the world was peace, freedom and prosperity.

Clear and Present Danger

Since May 2005, I have been attempting to inform the American People of the threat to our economy and national security. All eyes and attention is on the War in Iraq, while the critical issue of the economy and debt is ignored or given lip service. The War in Iraq is an issue but it is not the only issue. The security of the nation is threatened more by the threats to our economy than it is by the civil war in Iraq. Yesterday the U.S. Economy Risks and Strategies for 2007-2017 Policy White Paper (V1.3) March 15th, 2007 By Med Yones of the International Institute of Management (IIM) was posted on the John Edwards Web Site News.

Handguns at home ....

A reality in DC....
The federal court have taken away the 30 years long prohibition against guns in DC.
That is a bad thing to do I think.
Sure people has the right to have a gun,
but they should have to need to have some licens for to have it.
For evereyones security!
And for less crime!
No one should need to have a gun, except the police of course,
but no one should need to feel so unsecure in his or her home so he or she needs a gun.
Change the system....
For everyones security!
And for to save lives!
