My Story: Our country is under siege. It is barely enduring under the most egregious assault we have ever witnessed. Our liberties are being trounced upon in the name of safety. Our country is usurping the sovereignty of other nations in pursuit of oil interests. Our country supports repressive regimes in order to maintain a favorable climate in their country for our corporations, even going to the point of installing puppets into power there who will do the bidding of our corporate controllers. We, as a nation, have abandoned honor, not individually, but, as a nation. We have ceased to hold our government accountable to its PEOPLE for its every action. We have ceased to be patriots in the truest sense of the word.
I am sick and tired of not having a voice in Washington, sick and tired of special interest groups and corporate lobbyists running our country, sick to death of the image Bush has created of our country in the eyes of the rest of the world, sick of fear tactics to control us and have us forgive the abomination known as the Patriot Act which tramples the freedoms we were founded on, sick of people being forcibly detained and possibly tortured in Guantanamo Bay with only hearsay evidence, sick of high medical bills, sick of people who refuse to take personal responsibility and sue at the drop of a hat, hurting us all in the long run. I'm tired of hearing that we can't do it that way because it has always been done this way. I'm tired of politicians who make promises that they forget before they've even stepped off the victory speech podium. I'm tired of people who have always had plenty thinking they know what is best for those who have never had any, much less plenty. And I'm tired of pretty speeches from those same privileged people talking down to or pandering to those who have nothing but votes. I want someone who understands from first-hand knowledge what it is to be trampled on, slighted, treated like filth without good cause. I want someone who has, as others have put it, slogged it out in the trenches. I want someone who will stand up and FIGHT for me and others who do not have the influence to stand up and fight for ourselves. I want someone who is willing to hash things out with foreign powers who don't necessarily agree with our point of view. I want peace. I want prosperity, or as near to it as I may attain. In short: I WANT CHANGE.
"Si, se puede", he said. "Yes, we can." And I believe wholeheartedly that we can make it happen. But, it will not be the work of our leader to make this change happen - it will be OUR work. We must SAVE OUR COUNTRY from the impending disaster known as McCain. Then, we must set about the task of rebuilding what was once a truly great nation, to restore her to the rightful position of beneficent friend to the world, leading in the fight against the destruction of our world, leading in technology and innovation, and leading in the fight for decency and dignity for our brothers and sisters of all colors, ages, religions, orientations, and creeds.
