My Story: I grew up among left-leaning academics. Although I like to think I am independent-minded, and I do not belong to a single political party, I am an emphatic supporter of progressive change, which to me means: creating a more just balance of wealth and power; investing in the future by providing high-quality education and adequate social services to all children; providing medical assistance to those who need it (not just to those who can afford it); embracing multiculturalism, which is necessary for the promotion of peace and understanding and which adds to life's richness; protecting the rights of workers; reversing our nation's current imperialistic approach to international issues; and, generally, encouraging people to value their roles as members of a global community.
