My Story: Drew Pritt is the consumate Democratic Party activist and Democratic political campaign staffer. Pritt believes in results and will run through brick walls to achieve them. Pritt was born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, and is a 1993 graduate of Hermitage High School in Hermitage High School. While attending college at University of Arkansas at Monticello, Pritt also started his own political consulting firm. He left college to battle twice with Hodgkins Disease, twice overcoming this cancer.
Pritt is an an active member of Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas. He is a member of the National Cathedral Association, Delta Caucus Initiative, the NRA, the Interfaith Alliance, and the Human Rights Campaign. He is the Alpha Emeritus for the UALR Chapter of Chi Phi Fraternity and is a member of th Men of 1824.
Pritt is the son of a Presbyterian minister and is a strong supporter of organized labor, as well as the cousin of former State Senator Charlotte Pritt and Roger Pritt of West Virginia. He has worked as a political strategist for over 30 campaigns and served as Democratic County committeeman for Bradley County, Arkansas, from 1992 to 1998. He is currently a member of the Pulaski County Democratic Committee and sits on the Executive Committee for the Arkansas Democratic Party.
On August 1, 2005, Pritt declared his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas on the Pat Lynch Radio Show, found on WAI Radio. In doing so, Pritt became the first openly homosexual person to seek office in Arkansas. He withdrew in late March 2006 in an attempt to help another progressive Democrat win the Lt. Governor's office.
Pritt is no stranger to contraversy. He has taken on former Governor Mike Huckabee (a Republican now running for President) and helped defeat Huckabee's Road Bond Scheme with a grassroots effort, although outspent 10-1. Huckabee filed an Arkansas Ethics Commission charge against Pritt but the charges were dismissed by the Commission. Pritt's ability to successfully take on the rich self-interests has even caused some to smear Pritt online at sites like Encyclopedia Dramatica.
Pritt just laughs this off and says, "If I wasn't doing something right and good, then there wouldn't be those attacking me. I believe in a lot less talk and a lot more action!"
