Florida Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence

Profile

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
My Story: I am part of a nationwide grassroots movement supporting the need to address the rising rate of violence in Florida communities and our own country as a priority. In order to help this become a national priority, we're doing outreach and tabling events to help the public learn more about a violence-prevention bill currently sitting in Congress (HR 808). With the help of the public and organizations, this will happen. When passed, this bill will create a Department within the Executive branch of our government to support conflict resolution methods and anti-violence educational programs and policies. Establishing a Federal Department dedicated solely to mediation, conflict resolution and violence reduction policies and programs, provides the political strength needed to shift the focus from just treating the aftermath of violence, to understanding and eliminating the root causes of violence. We have very active groups in Tallahassee, Gainesville, Naples and South Florida supporting 'The Peace Alliance's movement (A National Campaign) to create a positive change in our communities and bring forth the peace we want to see domestically and internationally. We are helping raise awareness of this powerful legislation through educational outreach, having an information table at local events and by supporting positive leaders and organizations in our communities. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ana Campos - State Coordinator (South Florida Region) US Department of Peace and Nonviolence Movement - Email: ACampos_2001@yahoo.com - National Website: www.ThePeaceAlliance.org Student Peace Alliance: www.ThePeaceAlliance.org/content/blog...
