My Story: I come from a long line of "thinking" Democrats - meaning stands on issues and the individual's beliefs and behaviors trump party affiliation. That being said, democrats get our votes for the most part. I have a degree in vocal performance and have lived in Germany for a couple of years while I pursued an operatic career that didn't pan out. Germany is great!! I loved the time I spent over there. And while no place is perfect, the Germans have implemented some wonderful things I wish America could follow suit in:Public Transportation - that actually works, gets you where you are going, is affordable and runs on time. California, listen up! You are NEVER going to be able to make the roads WIDE enough! Stop wasting our money and make a rail/subway/bus system that makes sense. There is no reason why a 20 minute trip to the airport should take 2 HOURS by bus! Check with NYC and D.C. if you need more info on how to make this happen...Pedestrian only zones - one of my favorite things about Germany! LOVE this!Dogs are a part of the family - Yep - as long as Fido is on a leash, dogs can go just about anywhere in Germany - even in most restaurants! My dog loved going to the zoo, riding on the train and bus, and going with me on my long walks in the forest, not to mention lying at my feet in our local eateries. ****************************Where are we today in America? As much as I despise the current administration, perhaps a little good is coming out of it. Even the Republicans seem to be realizing that a system without checks and balances is not a democratic system. You know what they say: “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I believe (hope and pray!) that we are finally coming out of this dark era of lies, misrepresentation, cover-ups and special interest pandering.I would like to see us all come together as Americans for the common good of all and be less divided along party lines. I would like to see all Americans have access to a minimum quality of life, if they want it. I would like to see healthcare for everyone - healthcare that doesn't suck every single last resource of someone who needs treatment.I would like to see a national retirement system that does not leave our elderly in impoverished conditions.I would like to see our society put more emphasis on personal responsibility and less on legislation.I would like to see decisions based more on ethics and not the almighty dollar.I would like to see politicians become people we can admire, respect and trust - people who do the RIGHT thing. People who make policies that benefit the majority or us - not the wealthy few.
